Coworker T-boned

Heyo, I have a coworker who was T-boned on woodland and 4th by a black bmw coupe. The car ran the stop sign on 4th and drove off. This happened on Friday afternoon. We already have a video from an oncoming cyclist but I'm hoping I can find more info on the car/ driver. We can't get the plate from the vid. If anyone was riding in the area and saw a bmw missing part of its bumper or driving recklessly, please let me know. The car was driving east down 4th. Thanks!

Vancouver Bike Theft and the Cost to Everyday Cycling

The Cost of Leaving a Bike in Vancouver. A stolen bicycle can take a commute with it. Vancouver’s falling theft count leaves a practical problem unresolved: where riders can leave their bikes and still expect to get home on them.

Looks like they added a bunch of culverts to improve water flow. The whole stretch was repaved. Hooray for not having to dodge cars along Goring anymore 🥳

Inner tube top exploded off

Post image
11 Upvotes

It's the second time this has happened to me. I went to top up the air on my tires and while unscrewing the cap, the whole top of the inner tube came blasting off. Am I doing something wrong, is it a sign of the inner tube quality, or does it just happen when the tube gets older? (This is probably under a year, I'm a daily year-round commuter.) Also, if I can find the top (or take from a scrap inner tube) can I reattach it and salvage the inner tube?

Recommended Bike Shops Near the West End?

Good evening all! I hope you are well!

I'm thinking about making my bike my main means of transportation. I'm experimenting right now, but if I'm successful, eventually I will need a really good bike shop. I live in the West End. Who would you recommend? My first thought is Simon's because they've been around a bajillion years and are located near the Central Library, one of my very favorite places. But of course I'm open to your advice & recommendations (that's why I'm asking)!

Thank you! 🙏

CVG closed south of Sperling Overpass

Ran into a trail closed sign on the way to work, seems they've swapped which part is closed now. Put a purple X where I found it.

Minimal detour signs but intention seems to be to go north and take Kensington Urban Trail and continue on the previous detour.

One of the gentlemen working let me know this would be closed today and tomorrow (Oct 22-23), and then the whole trail should be open.

The bicycle parking new saint pauls hospital

So, after 12 years of receiving a company vehicle for work, by means of a service van, I recently was headhunted for an in house position at the new St. Paul’s hospital.

This will have me commuting to and from via bike, dropping off my kiddo to daycare and going to the hospital.

I’m quite excited for this opportunity and to be free from the headaches of traffic and parking an overly large vehicle, especially since I had to park the service vans out on the street.

edit

These are 2 different shots of the partitioned sections of the bike storage area. The first is the one closest to the door (right side of the photo) and the second is the one after the wall.

The new mayor and council could be round 2 of major infrastructure improvements for Vancouver

After the substantial improvements during the Vision Vancouver era things had definitely stalled (and arguably regressed) under Sim.

Priorities look to be shifting in a better direction again with the Greens committing to bike lanes on Broadway and their proposal to convert at least 11 per cent of Vancouver’s roads from vehicle use to green and active transportation space.

Now we just need to keep reminding them of their promises.

What can we do to educate and encourage respectful use of bike lights?

It's again that time of year when it gets dark earlier and more of our riding is in the dark. Cars' headlights are a whole big other problem... but now I'm encountering more bike lights blinding me in the dark on the bike paths. Most notably those monstrosities that looks like two rings of LEDs and are just a big circle with no thought of a proper beam pattern, which I often see on e-bikes.

I'm doing my part a little bit at a time to tell these people that their lights are too bright and to turn them down.. but no idea how effective that is. Any thoughts?

FWIW I personally use light with a cutoff (Busch+Müller IQ-XS) and make sure the cutoff stays horizontal or lower.

Found a Giant OCR1 in some bushes. Seemed fishy so I brought it home and have stored it securely.

If you are missing this bike, get in touch and we can discuss! Looking forward to reuniting bike with its owner!

Oldish Light green CRV

Just a pure vent…. So riding in the early am towards horseshoe bay. Going up the hill past the sailing club a line of cars behind because it’s not safe to pass oncoming around blind corners. Well the line of 4 cars behind finally gets to pass (wasting approximately 60 seconds), and this obese disgusting vial human yells out to “get the fuck off the road, and that we are going to cause an accident”.

Luckily my riding buddy calmed me down, but I just want to karmatically put it out there that I hope you receive 4 flat tires on your CRV or maybe you missed the ferry, or maybe you read this and we can meet up to discuss this. Either way I’m sure your life is shitty but I’d like to make it worse.

Have a great day, oh and don’t forget to vote!

Route Questions Seymour Mainline to Spur 4 back to the start, ok to do on Gravel bike?

Post image
16 Upvotes

Trying to plan this ride, but as a wandrer (for those who dont know its an app where you try to avoid riding the same road twice) I have to come back on Spur 4. Now this maps tend to fail to mention how realistic it is to ride them. So before i head up that way.

Is this loop ok on Gravel bike or do i need a mtb?

Bike Rage Where’s the shame?

I’m looking to set up a bait bike and start a series. I’m not worried about confronting anyone as I’m originally from a city that people look out for each other and speak up.

The goal is to shed light on these people and have them publicly shamed. No one here does nothing!

I was driving by and saw a guy using a grinder cutting a lock and no one batted an eye! I popped a U-turn and the bike and guy were gone.

Just looking for feedback.
