[Notice] Prohibited Goods and Services, and you.

Hey all.

This is a reminder of our Rule 2 - No trading, buying, or selling alcohol. Comments and posts soliciting alcohol sales and trades will be removed. This goes against the content policy, as well as may break laws within your country of residence.

Lately we have seen an increase in people trying to create or participate in a secondary market - this is against the Content Policy and can very well result in not only a ban from /r/whiskey, but also may see you removed from Reddit permanently by Reddit Admins (should you continue to disregard the Content Policy.)

The simple explanation is this:

Due to regulations and laws concerning Alcohol in many different countries, it may be illegal (simply by law, or taxation law) to trade/barter or resell alcohol products. As Reddit engages communities around the world, facilitating any of these transactions could open Reddit up to various legal consequences. Therefore Reddit must take every available avenue to remove and discourage these transactions within the use of their services.

As a subbreddit dealing with the subject of alcohol products, we are under scrutiny with the actions our communities take, and we must fully participate in Reddit attempt to control and remove content that breeches the Content Policy. If at any point it may appear that we are lacking as a community to stem the flow of this content - simply put; our subreddit will be removed from Reddit.

Please do not be under the impression that any action that you use on Reddit is entirely private - posts, comment, messages and chatroom logs are available to the Reddit admins at anytime and they will investigate any and all leads that suggest people are breaking the Content Policy and in some extreme cases, may take action either legal or federal (and by federal, i mean 'call the cops') depending on their obligations as a business.

Please do not engage any posts that attempts to trade/barter or resell whiskey, report them and move on.

Thanks for taking the time to read this.

TL:DR - Reddit is not facebook marketplace, you will get banned, you might even get prosecuted.

Edit: I just wanted to add some insight our rule 3. "No requests for dating or valuing an unusual or old bottle of whiskey....", we discourage valuation of whiskey as it has the strong potential to turn into a bidding system, whether public or "private". While we don't suspect every account that seeks valuation to want to participate in a secondary market, the avenue for abuse of these types of posts in regards to our efforts to remove trade/barter or reselling is simple too high to carry the risk of allowing this kind of content within the subbreddit. Since we do not have to tools to monitor "private" messaging or "private chats" of this nature - it would fall to the Admins to investigate these actions and garner an amount of admins attention to our subreddit that we wish to avoid. We're good boys/gals, doing good things... nothing to see here Admins. 🤞

My first bottle of EH Taylor Barrel Proof is home. Idk why I feel so weird about opening it, maybe all the hype…

I feel like I'm treating it like a newborn, lots of staring, no idea what I'm doing, afraid to open it! ha ha

So, two questions for the people who've been down this road already??

Which EH Taylor is actually the best? Small Batch, Single Barrel, Barrel Proof, Straight Rye, Four Grain, Amaranth, Seasoned Wood... etc? Any ranking is appreciated…

Crack it now or let it sit and judge me from the shelf?

Cheers 🥃

When you discover that a new-ish liquor shop near you has not one but TWO different Russels Private Barrels, the choice is a no brainer!

Penelope Rio (Spec's Pick): A much higher proof than the usual Rio, this should be a fun dessert pour...

Nashville Barrel Company Canadian Whiskey Single Barrel (T8ke Pick): 35 years old & bottled at 156.48 Proof. Fuck a duck, that's going to be an interesting bottle...

Copper & Cask Private Batch (SP09 Spec's Pick): I've been keeping a close eye for this one since I saw the TTB filing and for good reason, a very small (10 barrel) blend of 11 year old MGP priced at $65? Yes please...

Stagg 26C: We got a massive wave of these down here in Houston for $67 plus taxes, more than enough to go around apparently. That's an easy yes at MSRP...

Idk if this is the right place to look but my aunt bought this in London a few years ago and it’s the best tasting whiskey I’ve ever had.

When it says it tastes like fruit salad it means it big time. It doesn’t even taste fermented like sherried whiskies usually get notes of and it isn’t raisins either. It tastes like fresh grapefruit.

She said she doesn’t know how much it was but that it was at least $300 after conversion. I’m hoping to find something that I could grab pretty easily in the US that is at least similarly unique if not similar in flavor itself.

Thank you gents!

Longrow Red Pinot Noir 7 Years Old (2024)

Post image

Release date: 2024

ABV: 57.1%

Barrel Composition: 4 years in ex bourbon barrels followed by 3 years in first fill Pino Noir Barrels from Monthelie in Bergundy, France.

As you may be able to tell in the photo - the cork was fine but part of the plastic portion basically disintegrated when I popped this tonight. That’s a first for me on a bottle that’s only a couple of years old.

I’ve had pours of this bottle before in bars but this is my first time opening one at home. I am reviewing it live right now and doing my best to forget anything that I know, or think I know, about this bottle.

Nose: It’s a perfect swirl of Springbank funk and cask influence. I imagine like strawberry vanilla swirl soft serve as I nose it. There’s just a hint of peat underneath the fruit and funk. It’s more farmy funk than garage funk but there’s also nice coastal salinity. The initial strawberry that I thought I noted has turned to plums and grapes with maybe a bit of orange peel.

Palate: It’s so smooth but not in a boring way. It’s complex but it drinks below its 57%+ ABV. Great viscosity. The fruits remain but turn more raspberry and orange jammy with a hint of cherry like you might expect from bourbon. Very nice savory and earthy and peaty undertones.

Finish: It’s a wonderfully long finish. That hint of strawberry comes back. The finish is much hotter than the nose or palate but in a good way. The coastal notes are back, but more subtle than in the nose. I drink a lot of bourbon in addition to single malts and I like to call out when a scotch gives me a “Kentucky hug,” which it definitely does here.

This is a great dram all the way around and I think the nose is the best part. It reminds me simultaneously of what I love about campbeltown and of childhood.

7.8/10

Highly recommend

It’s so oily and funky, and the finish lingers in a very pleasant way. First bottle out of the 40 or so whisky(eys) I’ve had that I would rate at a solid 8.5 out of 10. Man is this stuff good! Any bottles y’all can recommend that taste similar would be much appreciated!

I remember when it was impossible to find 13th colony. Has distribution gotten that much better or has the hype died down?

ive never had any of these. Although im familiar with them all. Ive had the Barrell 12 Year French Oak Cask Finish, which apparently is similar. I loved it. It balanced dense seasoned wood with caramelized sweetness, with dark fruit and spice. Excited for this new release. and I’m a huge fan of Michter’s rye. I have a few of their 10 year ryes. Anyone try the toasted barrel finish or the barrel strength rye?

Why was this Michter’s 10 so valuable?

It just sold on Unicorn but the description is sparse. This is way over what most bottle sell for, and Google isn’t super helpful.

Any recommendations for a whiskey of the month club?

Or something similar. I want to subscribe to one (or ask for it for Christmas) and was curious if anyone can recommend a good one!

I’m trying to expand my palate (and collection) so I figured that could be a fun way to do it. Not sure how they’re priced or if any are “worth the money.”

Let me know, thanks!
