Question Is this normal

I bought a brand new Gillette double edge safety razor from Amazon. There appears to be specs on the underside, is this okay? If I run my fingernails across it it catches.

So I tried an old can of foam...

...and I'll say if it wasn't a pleasant experience! It was by Target called Smartly. I used up all my TOBS puck and saw the can in the cabinet. I've used it 3 or 4 times now and love the convenience. Seems like I get just a good of a shave as with a brush. When it runs out, I think I'll just go with Barbasol or Gillete foamy as Target discontinued theirs.

Mail Call Double mail call!

Double deliveries today! All of the samples smell exactly as I imagined - the descriptions were perfect. I can see myself using, if not buying full tubs, of all of them except 1988; the powder comes off pretty strong in that one, and while it does really fit the decade, it's not a scent I envision myself using frequently, but I'll definitely give it a shot! I'm most excited for the 1944: the bay rum actually takes a back seat to the cinnamon, but it smells fantastic regardless. I also found what smells like tobacco, but none is listed, which is interesting...maybe it's a result of a combination of some of the oils? Who knows! The aftershave is much the same, but isn't as forward on the cinnamon, letting the leather shine a bit more, in addition to the bay rum base.

I'm also looking forward to this brush. It's relatively comfortable to hold, with a slight awkwardness, but I'm sure that'll get sorted out relatively quickly with use. It's a beautiful brush and the tribble synthetic looks an awful lot like real hair.

I can't wait to try the 1944 combo and the brush. I'll try for tonight, but it'll be a late night after sports practice, so it may be tomorrow. I have a handful of new blades on the way from Maggard that might be here tomorrow, anyway.

Until then: happy shaving!

Decided to take the plunge on the Fatip il Grosso after I heard so much about it...crooked head and all, I'm hoping mine isn't too bad. The packaging looks like it had been opened already. Not a good start but hoping it's worth it.🤞

Say what you like about the scent but for me it provides a damn good shave .

I spotted this poster in one of the pubs we visited last night.

Question Gillette Fatboy/Slim adjustable what should I know before buying?

Hello everybody!

First of all I’m pretty sure there are posts out there in which people already explained the stuff that I’m asking in this post, and I’m apologizing, but it’s much quicker to get direct answers to the question without searching:

I started shaving a few months ago first with the Merkur 34c but very soon after I switched to the Rockwell 6c which was a good decision and tried some plates and stayed with the wizamet super iridium on plate 3 which works well, still need a lot of experience though. I came across some YouTube videos about the fat boy and slim adjustable and I absolutely love vintage stuff in general. So my question is:

  1. where should/can I buy one? Etsy or eBay good options? How „dirty“ can the razor that I buy be? Are there certain things I should pay attention to? And what’s a realistic prize for a razor in good condition?

  2. what’s the difference in shaving between the fat boy and the slim? Which should I get? Pros/cons?

Thanks to everybody in Advance!

Mail Call Last of the 1912's

Hi all, just received this late model 1912 earlier today - internet says it's circa 1948 -1953 and that would make it one of the last of its type, a series of razors I am very fond of.

I see these come up for sale every now and then and have quite fancied one. To be fair I think I just love the handle hehe - light saber vibes

This old thing hadn't been used/cleaned since then as it had an old 50s blade in it and some matching wrappers in the box. It was probably thee worst I've ever had in terms of green gunk, old soap, and tons of hair - enough to put you off your dinner - I ain't joking.

It's been soaked, scrubbed, brushed, tooth picked, flossed, WD40'd, barbicide and Silvo polished 😅 - Should be safe now hehehe

Anyway thought I'd show some pics, including the ones before cleaning. Hope to have a shave with it later

Cheers🍻

Review Van Der Hagen, dont buy

Thumbnail

I cant really say this is one of the worst shaving experiences I have ever had, because its actually just straight up the worst. At this price I expected the razor to be as advertised good on sensitive skin, good on course hair, and able to deliver a clean efficient shave. Van Der Hagen razor is small, and hard to maneuver due to its blade shape design, it cannot get into nooks or folds of skin (such as around the jawline) and cuts you easily. Even at the lowest setting which is for sensitive skin it just leaves you with and unclean shave, and at the highest setting there is hardly a noticeable change since the design of the razors head is so bad. It misses alot of hair, especially if you have acne and even on smooth surfaces such as the cheeks and neck it still leaves alot to be desired. I couldnt even finish my shave because Van Der Hagen was so bad. Ive tried electric shaver, bic razors, gilette, and harry's and so far I would rank Van Der Hagen at the bottom. 1/10

I've been playing around with the order of everything, how I want it to look and I think I've got it.

Unfortunately, I don't think I'm going to be able to do cards in the display but I did think of a couple different ideas. I'll either go old school and print a catalog and have a 3-ring binder OR,get a small display and find a program to run on a raspberry PI. It will show the digital catalog I'm currently typing up on a word document like PowerPoint slides, kinda like the info screens at interactive museums or malls or company digital message boards.

Show n' Tell First Shave with DE Razor and I won't go back!

Post image
63 Upvotes

I recently had a recommendation to get a shave soap and brush by my dad. Taconic Urban Woods and a Ichabod Conk Boar brush. Thought the idea was way better than using Barbersol or a gel.

Then I found this sub while lurking and seeking answers lol. I thought no way would I end up using a DE blade but I went and picked up a cheaper Van Der Hagen and shaved with it yesterday.

Not only was it super enjoyable but no nics or irritation which irritation was a huge problem I had with disposable razor heads.

Thanks to this sub I'm kinda hooked. I already have a sampler pack of blades coming and while running around this weekend found a unused little 1965 Gellette Travel Tech with case for $15 at an antique shop. I can see how this can turn into a little bit of a hobby lol.

Either way, I've seen a lot of good advice on hear and I'll take any that I can get. I'll probably just use my cheapy or travel tech a bit before diving in head first but so far I can already tell I won't go back to disposable. I can't believe it's taken me this long to figure this out.

Question razorock gamechanger buying advice

TSA just confiscated my muhle R89 even though i removed the blade from it, so i’m in the market for a new razor now. i want to try the razorock gamechanger but im a bit overwhelmed by the options. im not sure what parts to buy from italian barber since they’re all separate. recommendations on what handle and what size base plate would be helpful.

First time using the R41 and the Pinaud Clubman aftershave

Brush - Omega pure badger

Razor - Muhle R41 Grande

Blade - Feather (new)

Preshave- Proraso sandalwood

Shaving cream - TOBS sandalwood

Aftershave - Omega alum stick and Pinaud Clubman

Moisturiser - Nivea sensitive cool

First time using the R41 and Clubman

Loved how smooth the R41 feels and I'm glad I bought one after a year of contemplating lol

Can't wait to get even better with the razor.

The Pinaud Clubman is such a lovely smell and I'm not sure how to describe it exactly. Sort of a fruity classic smell to it.

Definitely recommend the R41 if you're curious about it and like a nice smooth yet aggressive shave

Discussion Mixa Cica recovery balm for sensitive skin post-shave

Post image
13 Upvotes

I've been using this for the past month along with Thayers witch hazel tonic and it's probably the best my skin has been for daily/every other day shaving. I'd sometimes get chin whiteheads shaving and they've completely stopped.

I did switch to cold water shaving like a year ago and that helped a lot too. Also dropped alum blocks a while back as they just caused redness.

It does mean I've mostly dropped aftershaves with the Thayers and instead opted to put the balm on and leave it at that. Miss them for the smell, but I guess perfect skin matters more!

Just a tip for anyone with sensitive skin that a Cica balm may help you out.

I've been shaving with a "Henson" ++ (Kampfe clone) the past month to try out the design. Routinely BBS without irritation. Going to try the +++ clone shortly. I have tried + (mild) and it just wasn't enough for my coarse hair.

Does anyone else use balms like this?
