Welcome to our weekly stupid question day.
Have a question too trivial or dumb for its own post? Unload it here. Questions need to have some relevance to Austin.

The court is right against the chain link fence 5 feet from my house and I can hear people picklin' from my living room and bedroom. I'm worried people will rent it out for parties/tournaments etc or people will be there all the time. Is there anything I can do? I would understand if someone built a pickleball court for their own use, but to build one specifically for an airbnb without talking to any of the neighbors doesn't seem that awesome. There are 5 yards that connect with theirs, fyi, but my house is physically the closest.

Tried to go to cidercade and was met with the new waiver. It has been a little bit since I’ve been so I’m not sure when this went into effect. We were told we had to sign it or we couldn’t go in. My partner and I read through it and it’s crazy!!
The things that you agree to in the document are insane for an arcade. You cannot sue for any injury or illness. It literally any or all viruses and bacteria’s - not their problem. Allows cidercade to take photo and video of you at any time and use for whatever they want. Also if you sue them for any reason - they can pick whichever court favors them best and you have to reimburse any party they involve for whatever legal costs.
Cidercade has gone down hill for years. Broken machines. Sticky floors. Kids everywhere. I kept going thinking “this time it will be better!” definitely never going back again.
TLDR: cidercade already sucked and has started to require a weird waiver to go now.

It's almost 8am. Are people just stuck at the parking lot?

Hey y’all,
I started working with the owner of Flamingo Cantina (a downtown music venue) helping her with some stuff. The venue originally opened on Halloween in 1991 (seems like ages ago) when Austin was a very different place. We want to feature people in the community and their experiences with the Cantina over the years and I figured Reddit would be a great place to hear from folks! I have a few questions for yall:
1) What are some of your memories of Flamingo Cantina, whether with shows, staff or ownership?
2) For the longtime Austinites, do you have any memories of Austin in 1991 or just the early 90s you want to share? These can either be of downtown or just the region as a whole.
3) what do you want to see more of at Flamingo? We’re trying to make the club more accessible to new Austinites while still keeping the same culture that has made it relevant for 35 years!
Saw these guys doing God knows what on a very chaotic Sunday in Austin

I once had Texas DPS officer change a tire for me on the shoulder of IH35 between Round Rock and Georgetown.

Just some classy north ATX neighbors flushing their car fluids into our sewage, putting all of the local wildlife and pets at risk. As long as you clean it out of your own driveway, right? Just 5 dudes sitting there like they didn’t even do anything wrong. Absolute Trash. Has been reported to 311

Given all the things this weekend figured a good Saturday to record a time lapse. Unsure exact start/end times but capture frequency is once every 2 seconds so this should be about 5 hours of elapsed time - 1 hour for every minute. Captured on GoPro 13.

Caught him in my shed and released in my garden (didn't want him trapped in the shed). Really cool teeth, I've never gotten a very good picture of them until now. The teeth are shaped like little castles if you look closely enough. Please ignore my gardener nails.

If you are angry about the 0.01% buying local law enforcement and our roads for F1, aside from voting over the next week or so for people willing to stand for the community, please feel free to post a comment here for APD:
[Edit - not only did this link come down, they removed the “Contact” link from the dropdown menu on the upper right of www.austinpolice.com. Snowflakes.]
https://www.austinpolice.com/contact
Sample text:
“Police” escorts for F1 attendees should be limited to follow posted speed limits and running without sirens. A millionaire sitting at a stoplight or driving the speed deemed to be the maximum safe speed on highway 71 is not a public emergency and dilutes the authority of unmarked emergency vehicles running sirens during a true emergency. If APD is not allowing officers to provide these escorts, it is at minimum turning a blind eye to blatant reckless driving and public endangerment on the part of other off-duty officers. This type of behavior only serves to further reduce support, respect, and trust of APD.”
There are no songs with lyrics f—k the fire department.
ETA: this has nothing to do with taxpayer money or funding for APD. This is about off duty peace officers (not just APD) taking up side hustles that allow the ultra wealthy to endanger the rest of us with reckless driving while APD turns a blind eye - as they have to most traffic enforcement since COVID. I get that some of you are in favor of APD getting alternative revenue streams. Are you also in favor of renting out the US Air Force or maybe TxDoT? APD (and the Air Force and TxDoT) are publicly funded agencies that exist to provide a service to ALL of us. They are not meant to generate revenue. The laws passed to establish them or that govern them exist to facilitate provision of that service. We call soldiers that play bodyguard to billionaires on weekends “mercenaries”. We don’t authorize them to invade other countries in their free time to make extra money. If peace officers want to moonlight to provide escorts to the wealthy, have at it - in their private vehicles, and follow all of the same laws that the rest of us are bound to follow. Don’t threaten the public with fines or arrest if they fuck up your side hustle. No complaints then. But fuck anyone that says a millionaire gets precedence over the rest of us or gets to endanger the rest of us. What’s next - “Doordash +++ ULTRA” where you can pay more to have an off-duty peace officer escort your dinner to you in record time by blowing through stoplights and doing 120 on the freeway? So dumb!

Forewarning I did not steal this. It was placed on my door awhile ago with no knock and I left it until it was decently cold in hopes the original person who ordered it would pick it up. I knocked on my neighbors doors and they didnt know anything or didnt answer. Sorry Ryuya, I hope you got a refund!

I was walking across the Shoal Creek bridge on West Sixth the other day and went down a little history rabbit hole afterward.
Apparently that bridge dates back to 1887. During the massive flood in 1915, houses were swept downstream and piled up around the bridge. The water got so high that streetcars couldn't cross.
I've walked over that creek more times than I can count. Most days it's just a little patch of water and trees between buildings. You barely register it.
That's the part I can't stop thinking about. You can be standing on an ordinary downtown street, waiting for the light to change, in a spot where the entire landscape once looked completely different.
I kind of wish we had more visible high-water markers around the city. Not just a little historical plaque with dates, but something that actually shows you where the water reached. It's hard to wrap your head around Austin's flood history when the creek looks so harmless most of the year.
Anyway, if you walk down West Sixth this week, take ten seconds to look at the bridge instead of the traffic. It's a pretty incredible piece of the city hiding in plain sight.
Curious what other completely ordinary-looking places around Austin have a history like that.

Good morning,
My wife is looking for a personal trainer for at-home training sessions in East Austin. We have a detached ADU Gym with a mini-split and a pretty considerable amount of equipment. There are a few more pieces we will be adding in the next few months. We are looking to see if there are any personal trainers in the area that are looking for a private space to train clients and potentially work out an agreement in exchange for discounted personal training a few times a week. Please shoot me a message and I can send full info of everything that our home gym has to offer and we can talk future plans if you are interested.
Thank you!

We were all really touched by the gesture. I was uncontrollably smiling for like 30 mins after and I even called my friend to tell them about it when I got to my car. I love Austin. We will be paying it forward <3

I saw a blue slammed Chevy Silverado with a loud exhaust driving like a fucking lunatic behind me. I got out of his way maybe a minute before he slammed into you. I have video of him for you to send to your insurance company while he was briefly ahead of me. I saw the collision in my mirrors, since I was paying attention to him when he was behind me again and knew he would do something stupid. I unfortunately don't have footage of the actual collision.
If you were involved in this, I have his license plate and can be your witness for insurance. DM me for my contact info. I called 911 to report this, and even though it seemed he hit you at close to 25 mph and you may have been hurt, APD told me police were preoccupied, even though he waved a gun at me through his window because he presumably knew I was driving slowly to get his plate number. Whatever. I will be submitting whatever info I have to APD on the online reporting form. When I do that, I can send you the info to send to your insurance.
I'm sorry I couldn't stop. There was no shoulder. By the time I was able to get the guy's plate, I was too far from you anyway. Hopefully APD at least sent someone to check on you, and I hope you are okay.

I was half hoping there’d be cash in there, but this was a nice note too!
