12.5” 6ARC w/ PLXC 1.5-12

6ARC has been such a great round and I really enjoy its performance. This 12.5” has got me out to 1,200yds, and my 18” has got me out to 1,400yds. Shoots smooth and has definitely become one of my favorite rifles to shoot.

The PLXC has been a great optic for this setup. Still not in love with the chevron BUT it has not hindered my shooting and overall has been a great reticle.

I hope 6ARC takes over everything and everyone!

BUILD LIST
12.5” Noveske Barrel with pinned gas block

Are You Using The Wrong Firing Pin?

• Upvotes

A standard mil-spec AR-15 firing pin should be between 3.271" and 3.280". The AR-15 firing pin we used for this test was 3.278 inches. The Lantac 6.5 grendel firing pin selected for this test was measured to be 3.270 inches.

With Standard AR-15 firing pin (RESULT SHOULD BE 0.028" to 0.036"):

  • Rexus bolt - .0305 inches firing pin protrusion
  • JP Enterprise bolt - .0325 inches firing pin protrusion
  • Craddock Precision HD ARC bolt - .0410 inches firing pin protrusion

With Lantac 6.5 Grendel AR-15 firing pin (RESULT SHOULD BE 0.028" to 0.036"):

  • Rexus bolt - .0195 inches firing pin protrusion
  • JP Enterprise bolt - .0215 inches firing pin protrusion
  • Craddock Precision bolt - .0305 inches firing pin protrusion

ASSUMING your bolt and firing pin lengths are similar to those used in this test, this means that

  • you should always use a 6.5 Grendel firing pin in a Craddock Precision HD ARC bolt
  • you should never use a standard AR-15 firing pin in a Craddock Precision HD ARC bolt
  • you should always use a standard AR-15 firing pin in a Rexus or JP Enterprise 6.5 grendel bolt
  • you should never use a 6.5 Grendel firing pin in a Rexus or JP Enterprise 6.5 grendel bolt

If you're still reading.....

maybe it's because you noticed that the measured difference in the lengths of my firing pins was .008 inches but there was always a .011 inch difference in protrusion. No, that's not an error. Protrusion is dictated by the distance from the front of the firing pin flange to the tip of the pin, not the overall length.

(Also, for those of you who private messaged me asking about a fix for the Craddock bolt issues, I haven't started working on that yet but will hopefully get to it this weekend.)

First 6arc! Need to swap the scope out for something with a mil reticle and a little more precise center aiming point (couldn’t see the middle of the target when shooting groups). Still had no problem making first round impacts all the way out to 1000. 108 ELDMs going 2660

Budget Bolt gun recs

Loving the cartridge in a 16” ar. I think I’d like to play with a longer barrel and a bolt action. Like 20-22”

It seems the tiger American is the go to, but has anyone found one under like $800 they like? I’m also down to do a barreled action and a chassis later on.

Shot all 3 today, 11.5", 12.5" and 14.5". The 12.5" is still my favorite all-around length, but 6 ARC is stupid fun no matter what barrel length you choose.

Fat nannie!
44y
20-25 death run no blood
6arc Howa mini
OCL Hydrogen L
95TMK 2625fps
29gr Varget
2.280oal Starline

Boy was it quiet in the woods during the shot with the OCL Hydrogen L.

She was really cautious coming in, but she was clearly a seasoned doe. She’s the biggest I’ve ever taken. Short of any blood trail, the 6arc did its job. Having a sample size of 5 with the 6.5 Grendel and only one with the Arc, so far I’m more impressed with the damage and blood trails of the Grendel.

I need more samples with the arc. Maybe try the 107tmk next?

Thinking of buying a 6arc gas gun

Came across this group while looking to get my first real precision oriented ar. Shooting steel for fun, and coyotes on property. Not factoring glass or anything looking at full systems and see Wilson and PWS and others around 2k. What is the go-to option? I shoot a lot of custom bolt guns and reload but never got into the AR world and craze.
Shoot 6mm creed at prs and have tons of bullets for varmints available to me here and options to try for load development.
Range to a mile (1760) is available to me
Precision and suppressed operation are the most important things to me.

SBR Suppressed 6 ARC

Pretty cool Hornady is still pushing the offerings for 6 arc in the sbr suppressed line of ammo. Box says it’s made for 14.5 inch barrels. Does anyone have a shorter than that barrel? Has anyone/will anyone shot/shoot this ammo yet? Is the ELD Match the ruggt projectile for this load?

Barrel Choice

Building my parts list for my upper. Trying to decide if the Proof Research PXT barrel is actually worth it or if I save some money and get a different one. I’d like to use this rifle in gas gun prs matches and some hunting when able.

Primers for 6ARC - Gas Gun

CCI 450 vs Federal 205MAR

Working out of town and there is a reloading shop nearby with decent priced primers compared to other places near home. I am looking to pick up a couple thousand before heading home. Will finishing putting my 6ARC together this weekend so I haven’t have the chance to load for it and shoot it yet.

Which primers pair best with LVR and Staball Match?

Faxon 6ARC barrels

Looking to hear from people who have shot the barrels how they like them. Doing research there is alot of splits on Faxon, but it seems a lot of people not recommending them just say they don’t recommend them, not seeing any actual shooting experience on them when I reach out to some.

I have a friend who was going to do a 20” build using their X match barrel. But he is going another route, and is offering to me as an early Christmas gift. But wanting to see if I’m better off selling it or running it.

More specifically for a shorter barrel. Looking at getting a 12.5, boss offered me his 2-10 TMR for my pr2 3.6-18.

PSA ICAR Build

Need help building 6 ARC build! Reading through this sub has confused me even more lol. I am looking to use the PSA ICAR so that I can use the Pmags. I have no idea of what barrel and bolt/BCG combo to use for this. I am using it as a SPR/DMR role and not wanting any carbon fiber barrel. Not looking to spend out the ass but don't mind spending to get the mid tier parts. Don't know if I need to wait for PSA E4 bolt and barrel or are there good options out there now. Please give suggestions.

Thank you!

The Craddock Precision HD Arc Bolts Don't Work With...

Using a PSA ICAR receiver and a Shaw barrel, the Craddock Precision bolts simply don't work. But I can't figure out which is the problem. I was hoping anyone who has experience with using the Craddock Precision bolt with PSA's ICAR receiver OR a Shaw barrel (in a non-ICAR receiver) could tell me if they've had any issues with cycling, chambering, etc. After using the Rexus, JP Enterprise, and Craddock bolts, only the Craddock is giving me issues. Thus, I am kind of shocked by the previous posts saying "Craddock HD Arc Bolt Good to Go," and I'd love to hear anyone else's feedback. Pertinent negatives: Ruled out gas system issues, feed ramp transition issues, bolt carrier issues etc. It's definitely a bolt match issue with either the ICAR receiver or the Shaw barrel.
