Welcome back to r/BaltimoreCounty!
We’ve reopened under new management. Thanks to the admins for making it happen.
You may recognize my handle from r/Maryland, where I’ve been a mod for a number of years, or from r/Baltimore and the myriad other subreddits where I am an active poster.
I live in Towson and work in media relations. Prior to that, I spent a decade in journalism, working for WBAL-AM, WJZ-TV, Technical.ly and Patch.
This is a place to discuss county news, issues and events. County politics, bar recommendations, education discussions. If it’s relevant to the county, bring it here.

Cool historic virtual tour of Catonsville Paradise Chapel and the pipe organ inside
Hey folks, I'm local and I created this tour about the history and architecture of the Paradise Chapel (now The Chapel event space) in town. It's got 3D views inside and out, lots of additional information about architectural features and additions, and you can see and hear the organ being played (even from INSIDE the organ). Hope you enjoy it!

Dancing/night life
I’m looking to go to a bar or club to go out and dance! Are there any good spots you could recommend? Everywhere I’ve been is just a bar with tables and no dancing 😔

Tabu Social Club (Catonsville)
Has anyone been to Tabu Socia (Catonsville) Halloween blackout parties? How was it? I'm thinking of buying a ticket. It would be our first time in the club. How are their Halloween parties? And what should I expect? And I understand what type of club it is. Not in the LS fully. I just want to have extra fun with my partner while enjoying the party.

What Baltimore policy or rule bothers you the most and needs to be changed?
Hello, I’m a Master student just moved to Maryland last January studying public policy, and for my dissertation, I want to skip the textbooks and hear directly from you. What specific local policy, zoning code, environmental regulation, or municipal rule actively frustrates you, causes problems for your neighborhood, or holds Baltimore back? Please let me know what the policy is, how it impacts your daily life, and how you would rewrite it tomorrow to make the city a better place. Thank you so much for helping me with my research!

I need advice
I’m a 16 year old boy, currently in my junior year of highschool and I’ve always wanted to play volleyball but never actually took the steps to learning how. Is it too late to start now? And if not does anyone know any rec teams that take in beginners. For the record I’m kinda short (5’6) but i can jump pretty high if that makes a big difference.

Mansions In The County
galleryAfter going down a rabbit hole, I found out that Baltimore County has some absolutely beautiful estates. I've compiled a list of some of my favorites.
I really do wonder who is buying these places, considering most are out in a small town called Worthington Valley about 20 minutes north of the city.

Post offices in Baltimore county are—different
I moved to Towson from baltimore city. I sell books on eBay and I noticed first that there are WAY fewer post offices in this area than I was used to. which is fine! (and would be way more fine if you could drop anything bigger than an envelope in a post box but I get it, terrorism could totally happen!
All this would be fine except it seems like balto county post offices simply reject packages randomly. I am a good packager so when I find out a package has not only been not delivered but not even acknowledged but post office as received, despite dropping it off with full on pre paid label, that worries me about all my packages.
Also why is the loch raven post office hidden that way?
and why are there never any employee at these post offices even during the very limited hours theyre actually open? in baltimore city the PO people were rude as hell but at least they were there.

Did you know that a sitting councilman can stop the release of their own ethics investigations?
The provision is Baltimore County Code § 7-1-105(g)(2)(ii), under Article 7, Title 1, Public Ethics, governing Ethics Commission complaints.
“The Commission may release information relating to the complaint if both the complainant and the respondent agree in writing to the release of information.”
So now the real question is - how many ethics complaints have been kept completely confidential from constituents?

Is there anywhere to find more information on all of the charter amendments and county ordinances for this election?
I’ve mostly only seen discussion regarding the three constitutional amendments

Dream of Renovating Rowhomes
Hey guys hope your day is going well. This is kind’ve of an out there idea (for me at least), but I’ve been thinking about doing this for a few months now. When I feel financially stable enough, which could be 6 years from now, I want to move to Baltimore and rehab an old row home for myself. I am not from the area but have visited and really enjoyed my time there. I watch this YouTuber in Philadelphia who is doing that currently and his plan to buy the house adjacent to him also seems appealing. In the next 6 years, I want to get proficient in carpentry, framing, drywall, and other construction skills to be able to do most of the renovation myself. I was wondering if anyone had any opinions about buying in East or West Baltimore like the dangers of living there, is it easy to buy adjacent properties, or other things I’m not thinking about right now? My last question relates to capital investment. If I buy a $20,000 row home and pay off whatever is owed in back taxes, how much should I be expecting to spend on the renovation in a best or worst case scenario. Any input would be appreciated and I’m more than willing to have conversations.

Judges on the ballot in Baltimore County
Hey all, I'm planning on voting today, and I consider myself reasonably well-informed. I don't really know anything about the judges up for election though, are there any that have done anything disqualifying? Thanks for any info you can provide!

Pig themed diner in Baltimore area?
Hi everyone! I was wondering if anyone could help me out. When I was a kid (probably 2005 -2012) I would visit my family who lived 20 mins from Baltimore, I think Cockeysville but I don't know the exact area. My dad would always take me to a diner that was pig themed, like, pig decor everywhere. Ypu could sit at the diner counter or tables and they had Keno. Im pretty sure it was surrounded by a cpuple other stores, like a tiny strip mall.I was wondering if anyone had the name of it (of course i doubt it's still open) or any images. I'm having trouble finding anything myself.

To the woman who threw her trash away in my can, I’M SORRY
This morning, a woman drove by my house, stopped, and threw some of her trash in my bin. For some reason, my dumbass opened the window and said ‘girl, use your own trash can!’ LIKE AN ASSHOLE. As soon as I shut the window, I said to myself ‘WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU!’ So if anyone hears someone talking about this, please tell her I’m so sorry 😭😭 I have such aggressive OCPD and I think my subconscious was like ‘THATS NOT HER TRASH CAN!’ and I didn’t even stop myself from telling her. One of my most shameful moments!!!!! It’s literally TRASH, why wouldn’t I want someone to put it in a TRASH CAN!!!!!! UGHHHHHH
EDIT: thank you all for your kind words 🥹
