AskDesh/দেশ কে জিজ্ঞাসা Sitar learning lessons in Dhaka

Post image
16 Upvotes

Hi, I’m looking to learn how to play the Sitar in Dhaka this December. Anywhere within Dhaka city is doable for me but preferably somewhere in Dhanmondi. I know Chhayanaut and BAFA are some of my options but if there are any good-trustworthy private instructors who help out for an affordable price then I’m open to exploring that too. I also don’t really know the exact admission process through Chhayanaut-BAFA-Bengal Parampara. So if anyone is aware then I’d appreciate a breakdown of it.

TL;DR: Looking for affordable sitar lessons in Dhaka this December, preferably in Dhanmondi. Any private tutor recommendations or admission info for Chhayanaut, BAFA, or Bengal Parampara?

TIA

Discussion/আলোচনা whenever I meet new Bangladeshi people one of the first thing they ask is my religion. Why is that?

Hey y'all I hope your doing great. I'm not Bangladeshi myself but I get the opportunity to meet different international people from all over the world.

The thing I noticed after meeting a couple of Bangladeshi people through work is that, after introduction they will ask what my religion is and followed by whether I come from a Muslim dominated country or not. This happened a couple of times with different people and it made it hard for me to ignore. I was wondering if this is a cultural thing? Or is it just the people I'm meeting?

Edit: for context the Bangladeshi people I met are in Europe not in Bangladesh

Education/শিক্ষা Should I choose CUET or East Delta University (EDU) for my undergrad studies?

Assuming I pass CUET's entrance exam that is to be held this January and get the major of my choice, should I study at CUET or study at EDU instead? I wanna study Electrical engineering, which I heard isn't the best subject in EDU. However, CUET is in a really bad state rn with all the politics & stuff and I know someone who studies there but says the environment/teachers aren't great. If anyone has either studied at CUET/EDU and can help me out here then it would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

Entertainment/বিনোদন Need help finding song - been trying for years unsuccessfully

Hello,

Posting here as a shot in the dark! I have been trying to find this one bengali song for over a decade now now.

I heard it back as a kid in this drama called Partition Aik Safar and it was such suchhhh a beautiful song.

I believe it is called Baro Mash but I cant find the version in the drama.

Highly recommend listening - its beautiful. This version is just from someone recording their TV screen but its the closest I've gotten.

Link: https://youtu.be/9QvMmLf-4jk?is=oswEaIinMg3Sqdw-

If there are any leads on who sang it or even a version similar to it, i would really appreciate it. Thank you!

Education/শিক্ষা Is Varendra University worth the time and money for CSE/EEE? Looking for honest reviews

I'm considering Varendra University (VU), Rajshahi for my undergraduate degree, mainly in CSE or EEE. Since private university tuition is a significant expense for my family, I want to make an informed decision before committing.

I'd really appreciate honest feedback from current students, graduates, or anyone who knows people studying or working there.

A few things I'd like to know:

  • Job opportunities: Do you know any VU CSE or EEE graduates who have landed good jobs after graduation? How are their career prospects, both in Bangladesh and abroad?
  • Teaching quality: How are the teachers, their teaching methods, and their availability to help students?
  • Labs and facilities: Are the computer labs, electronics labs, and other practical facilities good enough for hands-on learning and projects?
  • Campus environment: What's the overall environment like? Are students friendly, and are there opportunities for clubs, competitions, projects, and networking?
  • Academic pressure: How difficult is it to maintain a good CGPA? Is the workload manageable, and are exams and assignments fair?
  • Industry connections: Are there internship opportunities, career support, or connections with companies?
  • Value for money: Considering the total tuition and other expenses, would you say the degree is worth it?

I'm not expecting a university to guarantee anyone a job. I just want to know whether students get a decent education, practical experience, and reasonable career opportunities for the money they invest.

Please share both positive and negative experiences. If you graduated from VU, I'd especially appreciate hearing what happened after graduation.

Thanks in advance!

Education/শিক্ষা Is there anyone who took a year loss in hsc?

I'm a F18. I'm basically a student of hsc27 batch. I'm a science student. My study situation is horrible. I live in a hostel and when i first came here and I had to manage so many things and adjusted myself then i couldn't do study properly. Then also got sick so many times. I also wasted time and i was lazy. Now I'm in a terrible situation. My mental health is worst. I was a topper from my ssc. But suddenly i had a massive downfall in my college. I can't understand what should so I'm thinking of taking a year gap.. but everyone's telling me it's a bad idea. I had high hope for my future. But right now my study situation is so bad that i don't think I'll do good in hsc or admission. I can't even say anything to my parents. My hsc is in juen 6th.

Entertainment/বিনোদন As an comic fan, I found most of bd fans are film oriented and don't read comics.

Like, 616 Tony is an alcoholic, practices pragmatic utilitarianism, and is morally grey at times. Meanwhile, Earth-199999 Tony played by RDJ is more of a traditional hero burdened by his past mistakes, trying to do better, and ultimately self-sacrificial. Most fans will say his MCU adaptation is better, even though they haven't read comics like Demon in a Bottle or Superior Iron Man.

Sports/খেলাধুলা Wanna join a football club

Hi, i’m new in Dhaka and I want to join a football club. Since all my friends were from Chittagong, i haven’t been able to join any club. I’m currently studying for my bachelors degree at NSU, and I also live nearby. And sometimes I have some free time and I want to play football in the turf. I’m a diehard football fan and it’s been a long time since I’ve last played football.

I like playing in the midfielder role where I can operate the whole team.
So if there’s any team interested, in NSU,Bashundhara area, kindly let me know.

Art/Photography Morning walk in rural Bangladesh brought back pure childhood memories.

Was walking back from the wetlands this morning when I saw these three boys picking wild water lilies. One of them only gathered red ones, so I suggested he take a few white ones too to make the bunch look nicer. Offered a hand to help them out of the water and had a brief chat. No smartphones, no noise—just pure childhood joy.

Title: Best IPTV Subscription in Dhanmondi 27 / Lalmatia, Dhaka?

Hey everyone!

I'm looking for a reliable IPTV subscription around Dhanmondi 27 / Lalmatia and would appreciate some genuine recommendations from people living nearby.

My main priorities are:

  • Good selection of international channels (UK, US, European, and South Asian).
  • Live sports, especially football, cricket, and F1.
  • Stable HD/4K streaming with minimal buffering.
  • Decent movie and TV series library (VOD).
  • Compatibility with LG Smart TV and Android TV.
  • Reasonable pricing and reliable customer support.

I'm particularly interested in services that work well with local ISPs and don't constantly buffer during major sporting events.

A few questions:

  1. Which IPTV provider are you currently using?
  2. How much do you pay monthly?
  3. How reliable is the streaming, especially during live sports?
  4. Do they offer a free trial before subscribing?

I'm looking for genuine user experiences rather than promotional comments or reseller advertisements.

Thanks in advance!

Discussion/আলোচনা I've had a crush on someone for a while, but I can't figure out how to get to know her naturally. What would you do?

I'm a guy in my early 20s, originally from Chittagong but currently studying at a university in Khulna. There's a girl around my age who studies at NSU, and I've liked her for a while. We don't really know each other personally, which is where the problem starts.

Initially, I started interacting with her on Facebook. I'd react to her posts and stories occasionally, partly because I liked her and partly because I hoped we'd eventually start talking. After a while, I tried messaging her a few times to start a conversation.

Sometimes she'd respond, but other times my messages would just sit there without being opened or answered. The confusing part was that she'd occasionally react to my posts or interact with my stuff even when my messages were still sitting unanswered.

I know social media reactions don't necessarily mean anything. She could just be casually interacting with people, and I'm not trying to read romantic interest into them. Still, it left me unsure about how to approach her.

I also sent her a follow request on Instagram, but she didn't accept it for a while. Eventually, I cancelled the request and left it alone. After some time, I sent her another request, and this time she accepted it and followed me back. We follow each other now, and she sometimes views my stories, but we still haven't really had a proper conversation.

I've made a few attempts to get a conversation going, but nothing has really developed. At one point, she shared an anonymous message link, and I used that opportunity to express that I had a crush on someone and would genuinely like to get to know her better. Since it was anonymous, I have no idea whether she figured out it was me. Nothing really changed afterward, so I'm still unsure whether she even knows how I feel.

Recently, we had another small interaction on Instagram. I tried to use it as an opportunity to start a conversation, but my follow-up message has been sitting unanswered for a couple of days now.

At this point, I'm not sure whether I should simply leave things alone or whether there's a natural way to approach this without making it awkward.

To be clear, I'm not expecting her to like me back just because I like her. I'm also not trying to jump straight into a relationship. I'd genuinely like to get to know her as a person, have normal conversations, and maybe become friends first. If we click, great. If not, that's life.

But it's difficult to get to know someone when you barely have any interaction with them, and I don't want to keep forcing conversations that aren't happening naturally.

So I'd appreciate some honest opinions:

- How would you interpret someone occasionally interacting with your social media but rarely responding to your messages?

- Would you make another attempt to start a conversation, or just leave the ball in their court?

- Have you ever been in a similar situation where you liked someone you barely knew? How did you handle it?

I'm aware that I might be overthinking some of these interactions, and I'm open to hearing that. I just want some perspective from people who've been through something similar.

I'm not looking for tricks to make someone interested in me. I just want to know how you'd handle the situation if your intention was to get to know someone genuinely without putting pressure on them.

Discussion/আলোচনা Liquor price in Bangladesh

Hi guys! I’m going to visit Dhaka in a few days, and I’ve heard that liquor is much more expensive in Bangladesh than in India. Is that true? If so, how much more expensive is it?

Are Indian liquor brands like Amrut and Old Monk available in Bangladesh? For example, Amrut costs around ₹2,500 and Old Monk around ₹620 in India. How much would these same bottles cost in Bangladesh?

If anyone has good knowledge of liquor prices and availability in Bangladesh, please let me know. I’d really appreciate any reliable information or personal experience. Thanks! 🍻
