Battle of the dubbles
La Trappe (I know its not Belgian) had the most intense flavor profile, but it was also the least balanced of the bunch. It leaned heavily toward sweetness, with prominent notes of candied sugar and caramel dominating the taste. While the flavors were rich and bold, they lacked the balance and subtlety I was looking for.
Westmalle was the most mellow and light-bodied of the group. It almost tasted like La Trappe diluted with water. I was genuinely surprised by how smooth and restrained a 7% ABV beer could be. It wasn't necessarily bad, but compared to the others, it felt somewhat thin and lacked the same depth of flavor.
Rochefort hit the sweet spot for me. It had the perfect balance of malt sweetness, yeasty character, and a subtle dryness from the hops. The flavors were rich without being overpowering, and the beer had a satisfying body that gave it a smooth, rounded mouthfeel. Nothing felt out of place, and the different elements complemented each other beautifully. It was the most balanced and enjoyable beer of the tasting for my personal taste.
Chimay and St. Bernardus were also very good, offering plenty of flavor and a satisfying overall experience. Both held their own in the lineup, but Rochefort had a slight edge in terms of balance, drinkability, and overall flavor harmony.
Overall: Rochefort was my clear favorite, not because it had the most intense flavors, but because everything felt perfectly proportioned. La Trappe was bold but overly sweet, Westmalle was surprisingly mild, and Chimay and St. Bernardus landed somewhere in between. For my palate, Rochefort offered the best combination of malt character, subtle dryness, body, and balance.

Satan by Brouwerij de Block
Belgian brewers have never been shy of infernal names. Satan gives us a suitably devilish start to Halloween week - and, more importantly, an excuse to pour the beer into its proper glass!

FR: Je cherche de la bière belge, plus précisément une bouteille de 75 cl de trappiste de Rochefort 8.
Quelqu'un sait-il où je pourrais en acheter ou est-ce que je pourrais en acheter à quelqu'un ?

Recommendations I built an app to gamify and track Belgian beer tasting. Looking for 20 fellow enthusiasts to help me beta test!
Hi everyone,
I’m a fellow enthusiast based over in Erpe-Mere, and I’ve been working on a passion project called Belgian Beer Card. I built it to showcase our amazing beer culture and make tracking the beers you’ve tasted, the venues you visit, and the trails you complete a lot more interactive and fun.
I’m currently getting ready for the Google Play Store launch and I need 20 official Beta testers for the closed testing phase.
🎁 What’s in it for you?
To say a massive thank you for your time and feedback, the first 20 people to help me test will receive:
Lifetime access to all app functions and features.
Founder Status: You will be assigned Guild Founder numbers 1 through 20.
Exclusive Swag: A personalized, metal guild membership card sent to you once we officially launch!
📱 What does the test involve?
Google’s Play Store policy requires a 21-day closed testing period. You do not need to use the app every single day. Just poke around over the course of those 3 weeks, log some beers, and provide your honest feedback on how it feels and functions.
To add you to the authorized testing list, all I will need is an email address.
If you want to see what the platform is all about before committing, you can check out the website here: https://belgianbeercard.com/home/
If you want to claim one of the 20 Founder spots and help me get this off the ground, join the google group (https://groups.google.com/g/belgian-beer-card), drop a comment below or shoot me a DM with your email address.
Cheers! 🍻

Marriage Parfait by Brouwerij Boon
This is Brouwerij Boon’s house tasting glass, and it feels noticeably more refined than the brewery’s traditional lambic tumbler.
The tall stem and rounded goblet give it an elegant, almost wine-glass character that suits Boon’s more premium presentation of lambic, including its mono-lambic releases in corked and caged bottles. The front carries the enamelled Boon brewery logo, framed by fine gold-and-white horizontal banding.
On the reverse is the brewery’s key-and-tool emblem, also enamelled, giving the glass a second decorative face rather than simply repeating the front branding.
A simple raised nucleation mark sits in the bottom of the bowl. It is functional rather than decorative, but it reinforces the impression that the glass was designed with purpose rather than treated as generic tasting ware.
Overall, this is a carefully considered piece of glassware. Its shape, restrained decoration and finish all suggest that Boon wanted the tasting experience to feel deliberate and high quality.

Craft beer A closer look at the fermentation side of brewing Belgian beer
When brewing Belgian-style beers, there are so many variables beyond the ingredients — yeast, temperature, pressure, oxygen exposure and fermentation vessel design.
I'm curious what Belgian beer brewers here pay the most attention to during fermentation.
Is temperature control your biggest priority, or do you think yeast management and fermentation schedule have a much larger influence on the final beer?

Faro Boon
A lambic that tastes of sweet caramel and tart apple. It has candy to make it sweet. Not my favourite beer ever but I felt it is almost the equivalent of a dessert wine.
