Gold buying
Hello everyone, I bought my first gold bar about a month ago for $4,500. I was really excited about it because I wanted to start investing in something that could hold its value long term. Ever since I bought it, though, I can’t stop thinking about it. I try not to worry, but I constantly find myself researching gold and wondering if I made the right decision.
Recently, I saw someone talking about CERN and how gold can actually be created artificially. I honestly had no idea that was possible, and now I’m worried that technology could eventually advance enough to make gold cheaply, which could cause it to lose most or even all of its value.
Another thing that made me question my decision was a conversation I had with a friend. He told me that gold basically stayed around the same price for years and didn’t really start increasing significantly until around 2022. I haven’t fully looked into whether that’s true, but it made me wonder if gold is actually as good of a long-term investment as people say it is.
The thing is, I basically spent all the money I had saved from working on this one gold bar. Since then, I’ve managed to save another $1,000, and I plan on continuing to save and eventually buying more gold.
My original plan was to hold onto this gold until retirement, or possibly even for the rest of my life. I wanted it to be a long-term asset that contributes to my net worth, not something I’m constantly buying and selling.
I know gold has been valuable for thousands of years, but I keep thinking about what could happen 30, 40, or even 50 years from now. What if scientists eventually discover a much cheaper and easier way to produce real gold? Wouldn’t that affect its value?
Does anyone else who owns physical gold ever worry about this? Am I just overthinking everything because this is my first major purchase? Do you genuinely believe gold will continue to hold its value throughout our lifetimes? And is it actually worth continuing to buy more gold, or would I be better off just saving my money?
I’d really appreciate hearing everyone’s opinions, especially from people who have been buying and holding gold for years. I’m still learning and just want to make smart financial decisions for my future.
