There is someone orchestrating a campaign against a vulnerable member of our community across social media platforms by "othering" them. Calling it bullying would be an understatement, as it's more akin to what Girard would label a mimetic swarm.
The campaign persists, despite the intended target clearly being pushed further into isolation and potential harm by the gossip and slander.
When folks try to redirect the energy--they also get attacked and even doxxed.
Cambridge, we can be better than this.
When people are experiencing mental health crisis--it is not the time to band together to make life harder for them by concern trolling and abusing the system to essentially swat them. Over analyzing and attacking every word from them. Further threatening their sense of safety.
At this point, a number of people are essentially beating a struggling person on the ground with bats because they didn't "get help" the way a bunch of strangers who don't understand the intricacies of the situation insist.
It would be great for folks to focus any concerned energy on educating yourself on mental illness, cycles of abuse, CPTSD, and how to be a good community member to people who struggle.
Help your neighbors by educating yourself.
ETA: the person being targeted this time is Sally Tran.
