Grumbles/rants Update on misogynistic verbal abuse and physical assault on Stourbridge Common
Hi everyone! A few posts have been made about this man already but I thought I would start a new one here as the police has attempted to take action in vain.
To recap the accident: on Saturday 10th October between 9:30-10am, my partner and I were walking on Stourbridge common when a young man (18-25, white, tall, wearing all black and a face covering) started cycling next to us and shouting violently misogynistic things at me. This felt extremely different to the standard sexist comments I have become accustomed to getting in the street, as his words were very hateful and threatening. We ignored him but he then got off his bike and attempted to punch my partner multiple times before other people intervened. We reported the incident to the police and had to file two separate reports.
The police has followed up with my partner multiple times about the physical assault, unfortunately I haven’t heard anything from them myself. We got a disappointing update today claiming that CCTV at the location of the incident was obstructed by trees and so that it was impossible to identify this man, although the police mentioned multiple reports had been made that day for a similar individual (and I’ve seen people talking about it on here who reported this person too). There is allegedly footage which matches his description cycling towards town, but unfortunately still unidentifiable because of the face covering.
I am writing this to please, please urge anyone who has seen him to report it to the police, as it may help the police identify him - you can report after the fact, and make sure you get a report reference number!
If you already have reported it and you feel you have more information which could help identify him, I would be happy to share my partner’s crime case file.
IMPORTANT EDIT: To be clear, in this case, the police have been very supportive and reassuring, They told us they have set up patrols in the area and have notified the officers patrolling of the description of this crime (and of the perpetrator). They have tried their best to track him down which makes it so much more important for people to report any similar incidents so they can build a case and make it safer city and area for us all.
