The sad state of “starter” homes.
I spent the weekend looking at real estate on the Cape, Plymouth, and South Coast with a young relative, all small homes well under $500k. The Realtor was talking up how more homes coming onto the market, it’s less competitive, and prices are more flexible, but what about the actual condition of the homes at the lower end of the market?
Most have undergone a digital glow up in their listing photos, but when you get there the reality is a 30 year old roof, rotting trim and window casings, ancient systems, overgrown landscaping, closets and basements that smell like mildew, and decades of deferred maintenance. A $450k house isn't really $450k if it needs another $100k in repairs. I know older homes come with maintenance, but these are a substantial financial liabilities from day one when budgets are already stretched tight. All the big ticket items have reached or surpassed their expected lifespans and need immediate attention.
I'm curious whether others are seeing the same thing across the area, or whether we happened upon an unfortunate selection of homes.

Craigville Beach October 26
In my 40 years here I’ve never ran into a spider crab at Craigville,… I’m sure they are there… but more see fiddlers, blue, and sand crabs. I have ran in to plenty of these guys on the north side, like Millway for example. But I’ve also never seen this. As far as the eye can see.

So much tailgating!!
Lived here all my life. The daily drive gets more infuriating every year. One thing I see every day is people up each other's butts on the road. Do people not know you're supposed to leave a car length per every 10mph? Thats what I learned. I see people speed up just to close the gap and then slam on their brakes every 10 seconds. Why not just...drop back a bit?? Do people not realize how much can go wrong on the road and whyyyy would you put yourself in a dangerous position to literally go nowhere? So many times I've had to make the face and hand gesture at the guy on my ass like there's a car in front of me where do you want me to go??? Its nuts. Especially with so many of them on their phones not paying any attention and you're gonna be 2 inches from my bumper? EDIT: Not talking about the Mid-Cape, please save arguments about left lane cruisers.

True Crime
Seeing a new FB group about True Crimes on Cape Cod. Some pretty interesting posts. Lot of events from 80’s. Kinda scary. Worth checking out if you’re into that stuff.

I didn't post this with the wrong date in the title, what are you talking about? Anyway, isn't the Cape huge? Since last weekend I was in PTown, this weekend I'll be at Pie in the Sky Bakery & Cafe in Woods Hole from 8:15 to 10, because I said so.
I'll see those of you who I see there!
Next week, the 1st of November, I'll be at Buckies Biscotti & Bakery Cafe in Dennis Port.

Fuel tanker docked at the Canal Generating Plant 9pm 10/23
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
While biking the canal path last night spotted this tanker being parked
I was under the impression this dock was no longer in use, but apparently it received its first fuel delivery in nearly 10 years back in February. Now another possible delivery in October. Is this a sign of rising fuel prices or potential shortages heading into winter?

Minke Whale in Wellfleet
I don’t know what happened in the end. The poor guy got stuck in the inner side of the pier and was eventually trapped under a dock. Really horrific to watch last evening. I hope he’s going to be okay.

Long term rental need
Absolutely throwing spaghetti at the wall here with the need we have for a new unicorn.
My family has been renting the home we are in for 10 years, our landlord is aging and would like to hand this property off to his granddaughter. Where we completely understand - this is quite a bummer.
Looking for any help/leads, whatever to help us.
We are looking for a single family home, we require 4 bedrooms, and 2 bathrooms.
Ideally we would want a property that has a washer/dryer or hookups for them, prefer to stay away from electric heat. We would also like to stay somewhere Barnstable-Falmouth area if at all possible.
My husband and I are full time employed. I have been with my company closing in on 14 years.
We are in a tight financial situation for numerous reasons, and are slowing working to rebuild our credit.
Our rental history has no delinquencies and we can provide references, we have not had any delinquencies on any of our loans.
The goal is to stay below $3k per month if at all possible (yes, I do understand that the market does not at all appear to support this goal- please keep the negative energy away- being a jerk won’t help us, or you).
Happy to answer any questions to help with leads, etc.
Army Chopper Circling Centerville
Does anyone have any thoughts about why this particular chopper could be just circling Centerville? It is a Eurocopter and not your typical Blackhawk.
