I've spent about a month trying to make ChatGPT Dots useful, and the weirdest part is that my regular ChatGPT conversations feel more proactive than the feature meant to manage ongoing projects.
Dot breaks projects into a thousand little tasks, completes one, then stops until I ask why it hasn't continued. It acknowledges the problem, promises to keep going, and then does it again. I spend so much time saying "continue," "what's next?" and "why haven't you started?" that managing the assistant becomes its own project.
Regular ChatGPT, Work, and Codex seem to have much more momentum in my experience.
The personality difference is noticeable too. My regular Chat anticipates where I'm going with an idea, connects it to things we discussed months ago, and remembers thoughtful details. When I was making ice cream before a friend's visit, it suggested a vegan substitution because it remembered he was vegan from months earlier. That's the kind of continuity I actually value.
Dot feels much drier. It takes accountability when it makes mistakes, but that doesn't seem to translate into different behavior.
It also made several workflows dependent on its continued involvement. Now I'm rebuilding them so they can run reliably without it. I want an assistant that helps build tools and automations, then lets those systems do their jobs.
Honestly, I found Pulse more useful.
For people who've been using Dots regularly: are yours actually moving projects forward without repeated nudges, or are you seeing the same stop-and-wait behavior?
