Sticky: I got a ticket for breaking the law, now what?
We're getting these threads every other day so a sticky is being made to handle it because the answer is always the same. We will now be removing those threads and directing people here.
You generally have three options:
OPTION ONE:
You can plea not guilty and attend your court date or ask to contact the prosecutor handling your case. In either way you need to be polite, courteous, and professional. If it's on zoom or in person, dress professional. You do not need a full suit & tie, though it helps. But at least have some nice ironed pants and a nice ironed polo. For women a nice blouse, pant suit, or business-dress. You don't need a full shave and haircut, but comb your hair and/or cleanup the beard a bit. Be showered, and clean/trim your nails. It's about showing that you're taking this seriously and understand this is a legal matter that deserves respect and attention.
Then you say something like "I was wondering if we can work out a plea deal whereby if you can reduce the offense(s) I will change my plea to guilty. I understand the seriousness of the situation, I am just asking if you can be a little lenient in exchange for a guilty plea." You can then discuss with them potential consequences and terms. Such as attending traffic school, or saying you're ok with a hefty fine in order to avoid a license suspension.
In the majority of cases, this will get you some form of reduction. They have a lot of cases to hear, if they can close them out without going before a judge, they will. Be prepared to pay some fines, and maybe attend traffic school. But this is often the "easiest" way to resolve your situation.
That said this often will not work if you give the prosecutor ANY attitude. Or if you were an asshole to the cop, the prosecutor can and sometimes will ask the issuing officer about how you behaved. It also won't work if you did something very serious (DUI, excessive speeding, work zone violations). Or if you were already given a "roadside reduction" where the cop pulls you over for say 85 in a 55 but only writes you for 70 in a 55.
It still does not hurt to ask, but be aware that they may say "no". Also you do not have to take their offer. But if you turn down their offer, they're unlikely to grant any leniency afterwards. You had your chance, and you turned it down.
OPTION TWO:
Get a traffic attorney. Who you hire is up to you. Google is your friend in finding one. If you do hire a traffic attorney, or really every hire any attorney, listen to them. Do as they say. Do not think you know better than them, if you did you wouldn't be paying them several hundred/thousand dollars to handle your case.
Sometimes just getting an attorney can get your ticket dismissed, because it's not worth it for them to fight the ticket. And because you paying the attorney is already penalty enough. But again there's no guarantee.
OPTION THREE:
Plea guilty and take your lumps.
The first two options are not mutually exclusive. You can get an attorney to try and get you a better plea deal. You can try for a plea deal then get an attorney if you don't like their offer. But these really are your three options.
And remember the best way to not get a ticket, is to not break the law. There's always laws we disagree with or think are silly. There's some roads by me that are 35 and I think really should be 55. But for whatever reason, they're 35 and if I do 55 and get caught, I'm getting a ticket.
Slow down. Use your signal. Wear your seat belt. Don't tailgate. That's the easiest and cheapest way out of a traffic ticket, don't get one to begin with.

Country ham?
We'll be coming up for Christmas and generally hanging out in the areas between Louisville and Lexington. For a long time, I got country ham from Finchville Farms, but I understand they closed year before last or thereabouts. Are there any other places in the vicinity with locally produced country ham?

Suggestions for things to do with my friend from California?
I'm from Louisville and he's visiting for a week next month (so skiing which I wanted to do prob won't be open), I wanna try to show him some stuff outside Louisville so he can actually experience more of the country because he's basically just been in California and Chicago. Some of the stuff I would've taken him to like Doe Run Inn is closed. I'm thinking maybe Frankfort is nice to explore and see the capitol. Possibly Red River Gorge but I'm not sure.
I'd love to show him some of the cool abandoned/historic stuff from the 20th century but I always pass cool barns, old drive in theaters and stuff but never remember where it is.
Also, he's probably go to fly into cinci or indy(cos cheaper), I'm arguing for cinci because imo indy is boring and cinci is really nice so stuff in that area would be good too.

Hiking
Hello!
My partner and I are visiting family in Nicholasville for a few days. We are looking for hiking suggestions. Moderate to advanced and great views are our preferences. We’d also prefer to stay closer to good hiking trails than Nicholasville if the two don’t necessarily coincide- this family is a bit reclusive and we’ll only be visiting them for a meal or two :). About an hours drive difference is fine for us; longer if you think it’s really worth it.
Thanks!!

You Are Awesome
Like the title says you guys are awesome! Wife and I drove down from Ct on 10-3 and spent the week trying to get the best experience Kentucky had to offer. Well, it didn’t disappoint! Spent a few nights in Louisville to start the trip, walked around downtown, had some drinks in NuLu a couple nights, we really loved it and we are not city people! Walked through the Churchill downs museum. Took a trip to the Makers Mark distillery, such a beautiful distillery! Love the old school charm, we did the cellar aged tour, which was really awesome. Stopped in Bardstown, and spent some money in that liquor store! Drove the old Frankfort Pike, stopped at the Wallace station for lunch, that fried chicken is on another level. That drive is just beautiful, I had to try and pay attention to the road, it’s such a beautiful drive. Then stopped Buffalo Trace, to stock up and just walk around the grounds. Our next stop was to the RRG for a few nights, we stayed at these cabins that kind of hang over the hills. Other than being able to hear the road, they were awesome. Miguel’s is a very interesting place! Did some great hikes, Auxier Ridge, Grays Arch, Chimney Top, Princess Arch, and I can’t remember the name of the last little arch. I didn’t realize you guys had these types of formations! Then we did an afternoon at Keeneland, which was my first time ever at a horse race, the track is amazing, and it was so much fun, I didn’t win any money but whatever! We had a great dinner at Carson’s in Lexington, and then had to head home. The weather was absolutely perfect, everywhere we went was just beautiful scenery, I love all the old brick houses, all of the food we had was amazing, my bourbon collection just got significantly bigger, everyone was so friendly and surprised to have visitors from Ct, we just had an all around great time. We are already planning our return trip! Thank you to everyone for all the great recommendations, I have no idea how I’m going to be able to get myself bourbon balls on the regular, hopefully Ruth hunt ships! Don’t worry, I will keep your secret safe! I’m pretty sure it’s no secret to how awesome of a place you guys are. Thank you guys for a wonderful vacation, we will be back.

I have a question abbot the DBBB and camping. In the screen shot below you can see an area labeled for camping, but where specifically is it referring to. Where exactly can or can’t you camp on the DBBB?

Weeping Willow Spots?
Does anyone know of any pretty spots in Central Kentucky with a weeping willow tree?
I’m looking for a location for a photoshoot, preferably somewhere with a nice view or water nearby. I’m willing to drive outside Lexington/Nicholasville if there’s a really beautiful spot.
Public places would be ideal. Thank you!

How does one start deer hunting?
I wasn't taught by family members and none of my friends hunt. I own a .308 rifle and have become decent at marksmanship out to 200 yards. Aside from getting a hunting license, what else do I need and how do I find places to hunt? I know public lands are available but I wouldn't know where to start. I'm in the Louisville area if that helps.

Employment for Disabled Vets?
Hey, disabled veteran. Been living in Kentucky for about 6 years now.
I've been unemployed for the last year and I've applied to roughly 100 jobs. My unemployment has been denied. The Kentucky Career Center won't meet with me, answer my calls or emails, nothing.
I keep hearing about this "veteran preference" but I'm not seeing any signs of it. I get the occasional interview, but I guess that's about as good as it gets for me.
Not looking for much. I was medically separated from the military due to the damage my ankles, shoulders, and back received. Per my own doctor, I can't be standing for longer than 15 minutes at a time. You can see how that narrows my options, especially when most jobs listings I find are physically demanding.
I don't really understand what's going wrong for me. Five years military experience and a college degree will get me an interview if I'm lucky, yet I know a guy who barely received a high school diploma and somehow is making $60k/year for the state. And thats literally their only credential.
I really hope I can find employment by the end of December. Otherwise I'm at risk of losing my home. And if there's one thing I promised myself is that I would never be homeless again.
But if I can't get a job, then there's only one other option preventing that, and it's unfortunately a permanent solution.
I don't know. Wish me luck, I guess? I'm gonna keep trying, but I really don't know what's the point anymore.

Wedding venues in Ky!
Hello! I am trying to find a venue anywhere in KY or the Cincinnati area for my summer of 2028 wedding. I DO NOT want a barn venue. I like the look of an older historic venue with some character. We are expecting around 170 guests and hoping to spend no more than $25,000 TOTAL on the wedding. Since it will be hot in the summer, we ideally want an outdoor ceremony space and an indoor reception space. bonus points if it has a bride and groom suite to get ready that morning. I have looked at so many venues at this point and feel like this is out of reach for the budget we have. Please comment anywhere that comes to mind, as maybe I have looked over some hidden gems. TIA!

Louisville in February
Hi all,
I'll be traveling to Louisville in February for a military show there. As I'll be traveling in from The Netherlands..
I was wondering, any recommendations on stuff to do there? Also some bars and restaurants are welcome! Bonus if there are any honky tonks/dive bars or other country / western inspired bars.
Thanks!

Remembering Cliff Hagan, and Cliff Hagan Ribeye restaurants
UK and NBA great Cliff Hagan passed away Oct. 15, 2026 at 94.
I wasn't old enough to be around during his basketball years under Adolph Rupp but I do have some recollections of "Cliff Hagan Ribeye" restaurants in eastern Kentucky.
In the 1970s, especially in rural Kentucky, going to a place like Cliff Hagan’s Ribeye was apparently an event - a distinct, celebratory luxury that felt very different from how casual dining is dime-a-dozen now.
Even the name (not "steakhouse") called attention to a special outing without having to drive to the "big city". I have distant memories of eating out at the one in Berea (which later transitioned to Columbia’s Steakhouse when Columbia's expanded into Berea in 1999). The UK basketball namesake and decorative memorabilia helped make it an off-I 75 attraction.
I forget how many there were altogether. Although Hagan was on the name I think the local owners may have had some leeway to do own thing with recipes and menus. I think there was even one in Indiana.
Edit: Dialing back the lengthy fun-facts part of the post as I am told this content is fueling AI crawlers (!). Your comments below have brightened my day and sound like a conversation my dad and uncle would have had. Both of whom I miss dearly.

Measles in Laurel County
Does anyone know the real story behind the measles outbreak in Laurel County? The news reports say:
“The dashboard says that outbreak involves people who are unvaccinated from several large households that have been "isolated from the broader community."
but what does that mean? I don’t want to guess a stereotype and be wrong. I don’t wish anyone ill health but the sharp increase in cases in that county alone is scary.

Looking for my old truck
Trying to find my old 1986 Mazda B2000 — sold from Kentucky to Tennessee around 2008–09, possibly Knoxville/East Tennessee.
This was my first truck, and I got it from my grandpa. It had sat for 11 years before I brought it back to life: fuel tank, fuel pump and filter, hard and rubber fuel lines, brake lines, hoses, a rebuilt carburetor, tires, and more.
I sold it while I was living in Kentucky to a buyer from Tennessee. For years I thought the buyer may have been from around Clarksville, but I now believe he could have been from Knoxville or East Tennessee, so I’m widening the search.
In this old photo it had a light-blue cab, white roof, black bed sides, and silver lower body. It had a reinforced frame and a distinctive wrinkle/crease in the driver-side door-jamb area from an earlier rollover.
It may have been repainted, modified, parted out, or could be sitting in a yard somewhere. I’m not trying to reclaim it—I’d just genuinely like to know whether it survived and where it ended up.
If you recognize it, have an old photo, remember seeing it, or know anything about its history, please message me. A share in the Knoxville/East Tennessee, Clarksville, Fort Campbell, or Middle Tennessee area would mean a lot.

Experiences with Kentucky State Government Hiring Process?
I’m interested in hearing from anyone who has recently gone through the hiring process for a Kentucky state government position, particularly with the Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ).
I’ve completed an interview, and all three of my references have been contacted. I’m curious about how long the process typically takes after references are checked.
For those who have been hired by the Commonwealth of Kentucky, how long did it take to receive a job offer after your interview? Did you receive any updates while waiting?
I’d appreciate hearing about your experiences. Thanks!
