social Increase in aggressive begging within the city centre

Has anyone noticed a recent increase in aggressive begging in the city centre? It seems recently loads more than usual are begging, literally coming up to you blocking your path shouting for money. Some seem to be in some kind of trance whilst others are extremely aggressive at one point on Briggate members of the public had to intervene as a begger was loudly shouting at a woman who had ignored him becoming more and more aggressive.

question Christmas time

HI - I will be alone in Leeds during Christmas. Is there anywhere like CHristmas events I can join? No family or relatives and only one friend here, but she will be away for Christmas. Just don't want to be alone.

transport Bike on a Shipley train commute?

Having moved house and changed jobs I've still not quite got my commute down properly.

I need to work in Shipley two days a week, and live in North Leeds. I want to try commuting without my car, and using the very speedy and convenient trains.

I am by no means a super fit cyclist but I have a largeish heavyish step over bike, which has always suited me fine and I can comfortably cope with distance and hills, and can make it from my door to the train station in 15 mins - but I'm trying to work out how viable it is taking my bike on the train at rush hour to use when I get to the other side.

- Is there usually space on the 7.30am-8.30am trains for bikes? Northern's website says it has space for two bikes per train which sounds... insufficient.

- Does anyone leave their bike at Leeds station and what's the security aspect of that like - is there anywhere that is a safer bet to lock it for the full work day? I could walk the short distance on the Shipley side and leave my bike at Leeds station.

- Should I be looking at a more portable solution eg. a folding bike? I've never found them too comfortable as a taller person with longer legs but I feel like there should be an option for me in this day and age.

Any thoughts welcomed!

question Loud metallic groaning noise coming from north Leeds somewhere

EDIT: Its a certain areoplane making a sound! https://youtu.be/8GfhWAVfnVk?si=hEEl8eDUT5T6Ugvq&t=25

(I know, i’m adding to WhErEs ThAt NoIsE cOmInG fRoM?!? list)

It’s definitely not fireworks.

Every few hours, all year we’ve been hearing this sound coming from the direction of Far Headingley/Meanwood/Horsforth - maybe the airport?

It sounds like some kind of sound effect from a Sci-fi film.

I'm in Meanwood.

Anyone else been hearing it? It happened again about 9:50am. Starting to loose my head over it now 😂

Hoping to put together a care package together for someone in need, who is originally from Sierra Leone. Any suggestions for some supermarkets/stores, and crucially suggestions for snacks/foods/drinks etc to get hold of?

question-serious Is every household in Leeds 7 having issues with Yorkshire Water?

Our water went off from late Sunday afternoon until Monday evening, and we’ve just had a text saying it might go off again because they still can’t find the source of the problem. YW kindly offered free water from Oatland Green last night, but we’d already spent £25 buying bottled water from the shop by that time and was also settled for the night by then 🙄

I just hope they’re checking that elderly and vulnerable people are okay, especially those who might struggle to get water themselves.
