Discussion π£οΈ Every Place I've worked at Over the Past 30 years is Gone...
With the recent announcement of another tier 1 automotive supplier exiting Michigan today, it occurred to me that every company I have worked for, since I was 17 (1980 Xennial, btw), in any meaningful / impactful way, is gone. All that's left is a small Pet Supply store in my hometown that I worked at when I was 14/15. This little slice of personal trivia is sobering and sad. That is all.

Discussion π£οΈ Dont trust the mail with your ballots!
I dont care who you are voting for, well, I do, but thats not the point here/ Please hand walk in your ballots, or use a dropbox. I have a piece of mail I mailed on 10/20, certified letter to a business, non election related. According to tracking, it's been sitting in a distribution center for a week. I called to follow up, and all I can be told is "we are experiencing processing delays due to work being done on production centers"
This is an in state piece of mail, and it's now "officially" just been sitting 2 hours away from Lansing, due to "work being done on processing centers"

News π°ποΈ Jury clears MSP trooper who punched man nearly 20 times
A jury has found a Michigan State Police trooper did not commit a crime when he took a Saginaw pedestrian to the ground and struck him nearly 20 times.
Jurors in the trial of Trooper Paul E. Arrowood, 47, on the afternoon of Monday, Oct. 26, found the defendant not guilty of both charges against him: common law offense-misconduct in office and assault and battery. The charges stemmed from his interaction with civilian Michael D. Wilson in September 2022. The first charge is a five-year felony while the second is a 93-day misdemeanor.
Arrowood had faced the charges since March 2023. He has been a trooper since December 2008 and has been on unpaid suspension from the MSP since Sept. 30, 2022.

Photography/Art πΈπ¨ Hometown Views from a New Perspective
I've been getting into drone photography more and more over the last year. You can bet I was excited to take it back to my hometown of North Muskegon and capture some of my favorite places. This preserve has a special place in my and my family's heart and it was and always will be called "The Swamp." Now called the Muskegon Nature Preserve some of the quiet trails a few miles from my house has been transformed to a busy bike path and walking area. With the old bones still there and a few of my favorite paths now over grown or..paved over, it is still a beautiful park to walk through. Especially if you can beat the crowd. I grew up walking many of those trails when they were dirt. I remember the board walks being put in the first time and its funny to now be the parent pointing that out when I see the "Established at this date" plaques. This was where I found my first geocache which to this day is a hobby my family enjoys. Where so many of my childhood moments were spent. I had a great time seeing it from this angle for my first time and I hope you all do too!

News π°ποΈ A century-old reservoir anchors a local economy. Its future is on the line
Consumers wants to sell Hardy and 12 other hydroelectric dams to a private equity firm. Hardy and its sibling reservoirs behind nearby Rogers and Croton Dams are artificial. But after nearly a century, much of what surrounds those reservoirs has been built on an assumption of permanence.
Campers and mountain bikers fill Hardyβs wooded shoreline. Boaters, beachgoers and anglers spend summers in its coves. Businesses cater to the influx, which has only grown since the 45-mile Dragon Trail mountain biking loop opened two years ago.
Now, that assumption is being tested.

Discussion π£οΈ Hunting for beginners
Hello everyone,
I am located in Southwest Michigan
and next year I will be turning 18, meaning Iβll finally be able to legally purchase a firearm and get out into the field. I have never hunted before, but I am really eager to learn and get into it.
Iβm looking for tips, suggestions, and advice on what I should prioritize doing first. Here is a little bit of context on my situation:
My dad used to bow hunt but never took me because he died when I was young.
Goals: I want to start out with small game hunting (squirrels, rabbits, etc.). I have a doodle who absolutely loves to "hunt" and chase things. He is very well trained, so my plan is to take him
The Firearm: Based on my research, I want to invest in a solid, reliable,12 or 20-gauge pump-action shotgun
Experience:
Never hunted or fired live rounds in the woods, I do have formal hands-on training with firearm mechanics, safety rules, and simulator drills through a local public safety youth program, so I have a good foundation in safety.
Tips or suggestions are welcome!

Discussion π£οΈ Voting for the first time
So, as someone with a lot of anxiety, what's it like in person? Early or day of, I'm hoping to work up to Early voting but in-person in general, what is the process?
Just wanted to edit to thank everyone already. I know realistically it's fine, but really thank you for all the input for me and anyone else worried, I appreciate both the gentle, full explanations, and the more direct "you go and you do" responses

News π°ποΈ Wayne County kids soccer coach suspended over alleged relationship with minor player
This is a man who sent over 3800 texts, he has self-described that the text messages were β flirtyβ before he started talking about soccer again. This is a 12-13 year old girl with conversations that went until 1-3 am some days.
He was suspended from duties as coach, but still allowed to go to the youth girls soccer games. He filmed yesterday during a confrontation with concerned parents. He tried saying the texts, HE described as β flirtyβ were taken out context.
