Hey everyone,
I recently pre-ordered GTA VI on my Xbox Series X for CAD $109.99 ($126.46 after taxes).
Before purchasing, I spent a considerable amount of time grinding Microsoft Rewards points until I had enough to redeem a CAD $50 Xbox gift card (around 34,315 points).
My intention was to use that $50 credit toward GTA VI and pay the remaining $76.46 using my Visa.
During checkout, I specifically selected my $50 Microsoft account balance as the primary payment method, with my Visa as the backup. Everything looked correct, so I went ahead with the purchase.
However, after checking my order history, I noticed that the receipt shows the full $126.46 total, with both my Visa and Microsoft account listed as payment methods. When I checked my Xbox account afterward, the entire $50 balance was still there.
I’m now confused about whether Microsoft actually applied my credit or charged the full amount to my Visa.
I understand this is a pre-order and that payment processing might work differently, but I specifically redeemed those Rewards points to reduce my out-of-pocket cost.
My questions are:
- Is it normal for Microsoft account credit to remain untouched immediately after placing a pre-order?
- Will Microsoft automatically deduct the $50 credit when the game is charged closer to release?
- If my Visa was charged the full $126.46, can Microsoft apply my existing $50 balance and refund $50 to my card without cancelling the pre-order?
Has anyone experienced something similar with Xbox pre-orders and Microsoft Rewards credit?
I’d really appreciate any advice. I don’t want to lose my pre-order or have those Rewards points go to waste.
Thanks!
