Mapping the Aug 26 Trishuli River Floods: Verified eyewitness videos mapped to exact coordinates

Post image
9 Upvotes

It has been two months since the tragic flood occurred on August 26 along Nepal's Trishuli River. To honor the memory of those who lost their lives that day, show what truly happened, and leave an authentic, detailed record for anyone seeking to understand this catastrophic event, I gathered videos filmed by eyewitnesses, geolocated the exact scenes on a map, and published them on this webpage:

https://icdb.maptoppings.com/nepalflood20260826

There are many more videos of the catastrophe online; the ones featured on the page are those I have verified and precisely located. If you have additional information about this tragedy, you can contribute to the compiled map by submitting a video link and its coordinates, and I will add it to the database. Thank you!

Picture/तस्वीर 8:30 today night(Pokhara zero_km):Even in the dark, the mountains stand strong and the stars keep shining.

I looked up at the sky tonight and couldn't help but capture this moment. You can see the stars scattered across the dark sky, the glowing lights of the neighborhood, and the mountain peaks softly glowing in the distance.

It made me think about how strong we can be. The mountains face cold nights and dark skies every single day, yet they stand tall and magnificent.

Whatever challenge you are facing right now, stay strong like these mountains. You are doing much better than you think you are. Keep shining your warm light, stay kind to yourself, and never lose hope.

Sending sweet thoughts and calm vibes to everyone reading this tonight!

Question/प्रश्न What should i do with a torn note?

Post image

I ended up with a torn 500 rs. I don't know what should i do with it. I heard that you can exchange it for a new note in NRB. What's the process for the exchange if there is any? Nobody is willing to take it and it is useless to keep holding on if it doesn't work.

Question/प्रश्न Financial literacy pathways for teens in Nepal

Hi, I'm 16M studying in grade 10. I come from a decently modern and financially secure (not privileged, yet secure) household.

I DO NOT want to go through the entire studies -> higher studies -> shit job pathway, or atleast I don't wanna rely or depend on it.

I've been learning digital skills (that is storytelling, video editing and other digital skills) and have been making decent starter progress and it's something I see myself doing as a side hustle in the coming years.

I want to have financial literacy and learn about nepals share market, trading, and investing in Nepal. I wanna learn without a big prior financial or time investment, NO monetary investment afap.

If you're into shares, investing and digital hustles in Nepal, please advise me regarding resources and the best way to learn, esp the share market. You can also feel free to give advice regarding anything.

Help/सहयोग What next in life? I have no idea.

I know life is not easy on us, but it's human nature to think you have it worse than everyone. Call it being lazy, unguided or whatever, but I have not done anything with my life. I'm at a point in life where all I think about is just not existing. I passed out from +2 in 2016, wasted 4 years of my life trying to figure stuff out (tried for US, prepped MBBS, tried a course, didn't like it, changed it and finally enroled in a public uni in Nepal which I didn't really attend). I still have a year to finish my bachelor's course. (6 years for a 4 year course, cmon)

.

I look at my mom and see her tired and wrinkled eyes and feel that all I've ever done in life was disappoint her. I talk to my dad and see his hard work go down the drain. I look at my brother and see he is following the same path I did.

.

I've been working customer service in a field that has absolutely no relation with my field of study. I can't make friends, I'm lonely, I've not even been travelled anywhere for god's sake.

.

In the midst of all this, I have finally decided that I have to pick an option that's best for me. If anyone has any idea about this, please tell me with this profile, which is the best : Italy, Germany (study or Ausbildung) or Poland for a master's because I know moving on, I want to make my parents proud and over all, I want to make myself proud.

.

Appreciate all the help I can get.

Question/प्रश्न EBC trekking mid November

Planning to do the EBC trek in mid-late November. Just wondering if teahouses/hotels are usually available along the way, or if it’s better to book in advance?

Also, for those who’ve done it around that time, how was your experience with the weather, crowds, and overall trek? Any tips would be appreciated! :)

Technology/प्रविधि Anyone tried Loomisly as alternative to Buffer?

I’ve been looking into social media schedulers that work better for businesses in Nepal, especially when it comes to payments. Came across Loomisly and wanted to see if anyone here has used it for their actual business pages.

It supports scheduling for platforms like Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, X and LinkedIn, along with a shared comments inbox, analytics and ad management with NPR budgets. It also supports eSewa and Khalti payments, which is what caught my attention.

I’m connected with the people building Loomisly, so I’d especially appreciate honest feedback rather than a sales pitch. How reliable has it been in practice? Any issues with scheduling, billing, customer support or connecting social accounts?

Would you trust it with a business page you depend on, or would you still stick with something more established?

Genuinely interested in hearing both the good and the bad.

Technology/प्रविधि BIPAD portal is not working

Hello Everyone,

I am from India, and currently working on a project of my own to create a platform/dashboard that will actively monitor and predict any landslide/avalanche fault activity.

This is to create an Early Warning System for such Hazards. I have created an initial prototype and for training of this system, I have created an interface which follows online sources and government portals to confirm the prediction and actual landslide events.

I found out about the BIPAD portal by Nepal Government: https://bipadportal.gov.np/ but I am not able to access this page from India. Not sure about why, but I think it is only accessible within Nepal.

Can anyone confirm?

Question/प्रश्न Who should I contact regarding a missing person

The mother of a young girl I know has gone missing following the floods in Nepal.
We are from Europe and don’t have any contacts or connections in Nepal. We also don’t speak the language, so we’re unsure where to turn for help.
She was on vacation in Nepal when the disaster happened, and she has been missing ever since.
Are there any local communities, organizations, or authorities we could contact who might be able to help us find information about her or locate her?
Any advice, contacts, or help would be greatly appreciated.
Ps: The girl said she tried to contact the embassy but I didn’t get a clear answer from her about what they told her. She just tells me that she needs organizations, or people in hospitals or medical centers, or staff who have access to wards where severely injured patients are being treated. Because she is sure she’s alive and the mother may simply have lost her memory and doesn’t remember who she is, so they cant identify her 🤷🏻‍♀️.
Thank you so much. 🙏

Question/प्रश्न Anyone who has taken mad honey for recreational purpose?

I have low blood pressure and read that it can lower blood pressure, so I am not entirely sure if i should try it or not. Does it really make your pressure low dangerously?

Also, what should I expect? Some places I read it just makes you drowsy and others say it has similar psychedelic effects like magic mushrooms?

What was your experience?
