Politics Upcoming AMA on Ranked Choice Voting and Irvine's Measure D

Please join us on Tuesday, October 27th from 5-7 pm PST to discuss Ranked Choice Voting and Irvine's Measure D proposal). Participating in answering your questions will be members of Voter Choice Irvine and CalRCV (California Ranked Choice Voting Coalition).
The intent is to engage with the broader Orange County community with an informational, policy-focused discussion grounded in published research and the experience of jurisdictions that use RCV.
Topics we're glad to cover:
- What Irvine's Measure D would do, and how it would work for Irvine voters
- How instant runoff voting (aka: RCV) works, including how ballots are counted
- Which California cities and counties use RCV, and how implementation has gone
- The history of RCV in the U.S. and abroad
- Research on RCV's effects, including voter turnout, ballot errors, candidate behavior, representation, and cost
- Arguments for and against RCV, including common criticisms
- Any other RCV questions, including ones that are critical of it
Feel free to comment your questions in advance, or during the AMA 2-hour duration itself.
Thank you!
- The Volunteers at Voter Choice Irvine & CalRCV

Recommendations Needed OC Halloween Decorations Map
maps.app.goo.glIt is officially October now, which means we are back with the Halloween decorations map. This map is carefully curated and kept up to date.
As I say each year this is a community project, and every little bit of help helps! If you visit a place on this map and there is no decorations please let us know, that is how we keep this up to date each year. If you see somewhere that is worthy of being on the map (usually an incredible individual house or a cluster of really good houses, we do not include haunts as those have specific dates and times) please let us know so it can be added. This is a living breathing map that changes from year to year. If your city has a contest on their social media share that here so we can update the map. I try every year to get to all the places on the map but it is not possible for any one person to do it, so the map is only as good as the community support that has created and helped keep it going each year. Thank you to all of you who have participated!

Recommendations Needed Where can I get good kimchi in Garden Grove (K-Town)?
I'm looking for some kimchi recommendations in the Garden Grove area. Would prefer a local mom-and-pop shop but I'm also open to anything store-bought, so please let me know what your favorites are. Thanks!

News Single Vehicle (Truck) Fatality on Santa Ana Canyon Earlier This Afternoon
I was driving on Santa Ana Canyon this afternoon, going eastbound toward Weir Canyon. First an emergency vehicle went by, and then a fire truck shortly thereafter. And just before approaching the Festival Shopping Center, there was a really bad looking single vehicle accident on the westbound side of the road. That truck was completely totaled, and I noticed that the police and first responders had put up covers over the windows of the vehicle, which immediately made me think it was possibly fatal. Turns out it was, an absolute shame. Seeing that truck in that condition, just pulverized on the shoulder, had me wondering how that could have happened.
When i left the gym an hour and a half later, they still had Santa Ana Canyon Rd blocked off on the westbound side; drivers had to go all the way around town to go west bound there. Really sad.

Recommendations Needed Anyone commute from Orange County to UCLA SM for night shift?
I’m trying to figure out if commuting from Orange County to UCLA Santa Monica is realistically sustainable
I’ll be doing 3x12s, 7 PM–7 AM, and want to stay in OC. Is the commute sustainable?
Does FasTrak help? Do you cluster shifts, carpool, or stay somewhere near Santa Monica between shifts?
Edit: I'm thinking of doing this for 1-2 years before eventually moving towards LA

Question Update on Cinemark/Century in Orange rodent situation?
Like the title says, does anyone have any updates on the rodent situation at the Cinemark in Orange? This is the theater I like to go to most and I’d rather avoid any Remys if at all possible. Thank you!

Recommendations Needed Grief Support
Hi everyone, I really need recommendations for grief support groups, as close to Newport/Costa Mesa as possible. My grandmother and uncle both passed in the past few weeks. My grandmother, who raised me, her death has hit me incredibly hard. I have even lost my job because I can’t pull it together. I’m grieving in a way I didn’t know was possible. I desperately need help and now that I have no insurance I’m hoping to find some type of support group, I can’t continue on like this. I have no family around so I am completely alone. I appreciate any help

Recommendations Needed OC mattress store for a rental, what holds up to constant turnover?
Furnishing a unit and the mattress is the part I keep getting wrong. What I need isn't what I'd buy for myself, it has to work for people I'll never meet, survive getting flipped by whoever's cleaning, and not need replacing every 18 months. So far I've figured out nothing too soft, because that's where the complaints come from, and nothing expensive, because it's getting destroyed eventually. I've been through Living Spaces and Ashley, and Sit 'n Sleep gave me a pretty sensible answer once I explained the setup, but I'd like a second opinion before I buy four of them. Anywhere in OC that'll have this conversation with me?

Question Has anyone spotted a Scooby-Doo Mystery Machine van around Orange County recently?
I used to see one parked in Fountain Valley for years, but now that I’m actually looking for it, I can’t find it anywhere.
My entire friend group decided to dress up as the Scooby Doo gang for Halloween this year, and we thought it would be so fun to do a photoshoot with a real Mystery Machine!
If anyone has spotted one recently, knows where one is usually parked, or knows someone who owns one, please let me know! We’d love to make this photoshoot happen!

Medical/Healthcare Affordable skin cancer screenings?
Does anyone know a place that has an affordable skin cancer screening? And what the cost is?
I tried through a virtual dermatologist but they referred me to derm tech home screening stickers which I'm pretty sure my insurance wouldn't cover and would cause me to pay a high deductible first. I'm very worried about some spots that are changing. I have Cigna but willing to pay cash.

Recommendations Needed Places to take kids Trick-or-Treating?
My nephews are visiting from France and wants to experience a "traditional" Halloween. We just moved to Orange but barely any houses are decorated in my neighborhood. Any suggestions on where to take them?

Recommendations Needed Coyote's with mange
The little coyote family I see often has a few of their younger pups with mange that has steadily gotten worse over the last 3 months or so. Today I saw the youngest one and it's gotten to the point where he/she is covered in sores.
To those of you that understand how this stuff works – is this a let nature deal with it situation or is there a government entity I should reach out to and inform? I understand mange can spread from them to dogs and these coyotes are regularly in our neighborhood.
Thanks in advance for any guidance.
