Discussion RI driving PSA
The left lane is for passing only. If you're not actively passing someone, move over. Visual cues: if someone is behind you and there is no one in front of you, plus you're not passing another vehicle, move over.
Follow the rules of the road (Right of Way). Do not stop to let someone go, or wave someone out if you are driving straight. Just drive. It's dangerous and is causing more stop and go traffic. Do not stop unless you have a stop sign, red light, a vehicle stopped in front of you, a school bus, an animal crossing, a hazard, or are stopping for a pedestrian to cross.
Do not wave cars on at a 4-way-stop. Whoever arrived at the intersection and stopped first goes first. If you arrive at the same time, the vehicle to the right goes first.
Slow down, use caution, and be prepared to stop with a yield sign. Yield signs are not stop signs nor are they green arrows.
Stop texting and driving. But if you are too selfish and unwilling to stop, at least get out of the left lane.
What did I miss? Add your own in the comments.

Discussion RI pprty mngt Brady Sullivan Reviews
**Problems at 75 Pocasset Mill (Brady Sullivan Properties), Johnston, RI**
From the outside, 75 Pocasset Mill looks great. Inside, it's a different story.
- **Mold:** Several units have what appears to be mold, and one unit we know of has tested positive. Management's response was a basic surface cleaning and painting over the moisture in the walls, without fixing the source.
- **Pests:** Multiple units have cockroach infestations, and the rats around the property are alarmingly large.
- **Rules not enforced:** Management doesn't enforce property rules or lease terms. Parking in particular is a mess.
- **Front office:** In my experience, the front desk staff member and their supervisor are a major reason residents here are unhappy. Their lack of professionalism has to be seen to be believed. They chose to let certain units do what they want. It's clearly stated in the lease that there's no subletting but certain units are allowed to sublet, but it's on the DL between the front desk and the unit. But if another unit inquires about subletting they get immediately rejected. I recently heard that when individuals go into the office to odge a complaint or discuss something, they're immediately removed from the office. Recently, I heard that somebody was banned from the office and from talking to any employees of Brady Sullivan while they're living in their property.
In my view, the root of these problems is management, and I suspect this isn't limited to this one property.
If you live here or at another Brady Sullivan property, I'd like to hear about your experience.

Question / Suggestion Looking for D&D
I haven't played in years and I have been trying for awhile with friends to try and get something going, unsuccessfully.
So now I'm reaching out to the general public of Rhode island. Are there any places that do drop in games? Is there anyone looking for an extra player? Or anyone looking to start a campaign? Bonus points if other women are there, but not required as long as no one acts creepy (weird is fine, I'm weird).
I'm not opposed to driving to other parts of the state. Right now I work in a more central part of the state during the day, so most evenings would be best.

Question / Suggestion oil prices? should i ditch Petro?
Bought our house last fall and was signed up with Petro for auto delivery for oil to heat the house. Went fine last year.
We’re expecting a refill this week and it just struck me that I should probably shop around for prices. I’m sure they’re all super high right now though 😅 but I saw an old thread saying Petro consistently charges higher than other places
Who do you use? Should I ditch or stick with Petro?
I’m in south county if that matters.

News Woman Threatened by Man With Assault Rifle After Being Sideswiped in Providence
A woman told police that a man threatened her with an assault rifle after she was sideswiped while driving on North Main Street in Providence.
The incident reportedly happened on North Main Street, shortly after 1:30 PM on Saturday
About Reported Gun Threat
Police responded to North Main at Pratt Street for a woman reporting a man with a gun.
The victim - a female in her 40s - told police she had been driving on North Main Street when she said she was sideswiped by a silver SUV.
After the collision, the victim said she exited her vehicle and approached the SUV.
She said the driver picked up what appeared to be an "AK-47 style" assault rifle and brandished it in her direction.
The victim said she fled back to her vehicle; at which time she said the driver in the SUV took off.
She told officers she tried to follow the SUV to get its license plates, and that the driver continued to brandish the firearm, at which time she stopped and called police.
Detectives are currently investigating.

Question / Suggestion Out of State Ballot Drop Off?
Sorry if this is a dumb question I just want to make sure my vote is counted I just very recently moved to Rhode Island and I’m originally from Florida. Because I moved after the 10/4 deadline I wasn’t able to register to vote here but I confirmed with my previous county that I was still eligible to vote in Florida. I received my ballot today and I was wondering if the ballot drop off locations included out of state ballots or if I needed to go to a post office? I’m planning to go to my City Hall I just want to make sure they don’t only take RI ballots.

Politics Ken Block put out his first 100 days plan today. For those of you from my last post who are interested
blockforgovernor.comTLDR: People in my last thread said Ken has complaints but no plans. Today he put out 17 specific things for his first 100 days, mostly healthcare, energy bills, taxes and fixing state agencies. I like most of it. A couple parts Im not sold on.
For anyone who missed my last post, Im 28, grew up in Warwick, sit in the middle on most stuff and Im not affiliated with any campaign. I voted for Ken early this week. The biggest pushback I got after the debate was that his ideas sounded like complaints, and that was fair at the time, so this gets its own post.
Healthcare
This is the biggest chunk of the list.
- He'd start talks with the other New England governors on a joint study of whether a regional insurance marketplace would save money. Right now its only a study.
- He'd work with our congressional delegation to raise Medicare reimbursement for RI providers.
- He'd write the one stay one bill law with the hospitals and insurers, then take it to the General Assembly.
- A team would go thru the Auditor General findings and the roughly $5 billion we spend on Medicaid each year. He says overall healthcare spending stays where it is and the goal is more out of each dollar.
- He wants to fix the Medicaid payment problems that make it so hard to find a dentist, and go after the pharmacy benefit managers squeezing independent pharmacies.
He finally answered the ACA attacks from Helena's ads too. He called it settled law, said he wont undermine it, and backs keeping kids on their parents plan until 26 and covering pre existing conditions. He does the 26 thing with his own kids apparently.
Energy
This is where people will fight. He'd put as much of the greenhouse gas auction money as he can toward bill relief for low income households, end subsidies for out of state renewable projects and spend that money on RI clean energy, and move the 100% renewable goal from 2033 to 2040.
I'd rather we set a date we can hit. Plenty of people here will disagree and I get it.
Stuff you'll feel in your wallet
- The state income tax on Social Security goes away.
- Auto insurers couldnt use your credit score to set your rate anymore.
- Cell phone taxes and fees get cut. Ours are the highest in New England at 15.75%.
Fixing state government
- DOT gets a new director and merges with the Turnpike and Bridge Authority.
- A team works only on the Washington Bridge mess and the lawsuits.
- DEM and CRMC merge.
- The Bristol Veterans Home, which sits 25% empty, gets filled.
- A team works only on the broken state computer systems and outside IT contracts like UHIP and payroll.
I work in IT so that last one might be my favorite lol.
I wish Flock cameras made the list since thats my biggest issue. He's been against them the whole campaign though.
Does this change anything for anyone on the fence? What would you push back on? Early voting is open until Election Day, Tuesday Nov 3.

Question / Suggestion Drivers license
Hi Rhode islanders. I'm new to Rhode island and the country. I'd like to know how hard it is to pass the learners permit and get a licence as someone who has been driving for about 10 years in another country.

Question / Suggestion RI Energy
Hey everyone,
RI energy issued a disconnection notice for my account on 10/30. Does anyone have experience with the timing of disconnections? I was hoping to make it to November 1st so I could catch up on my bill during the winter moratorium. The down payment to keep the electricity on is simply too much and I’m really afraid they are going to shut it off. Any info would really help.
Thanks!!

Politics Vote Vote Vote Vote 🗳️💙💙💙
If you haven’t voted yet, please get out and make your voice heard! Rhode Island’s gubernatorial election is more competitive than many people realize, and we cannot afford to take anything for granted. We don’t need a Republican governor, nor do we need an independent who claims to be above party politics while seemingly aligning himself with the MAGA movement. Rhode Island deserves leadership that will protect our rights, defend our values, and move our state forward not backward. Every single vote matters, and this election is too important to sit out. Get out, vote, and let’s elect Helena Foulkes as our next governor! 💙🇺🇸

Question / Suggestion Working at Miriam as a Cook?
I'm about to start a job working as a cook at Miriam Hospital. Does anyone have experience in this position? How is the environment? I'm making a big change to my career by taking this position and I'm worried about if I'll be happy there or not.
