After the Assad regime fell, my good friend in Damascus gave me the green light to come visit and I have to say— what a magnificent country!!

We started in Damascus (crossed by land via Jordan), explored the city, including the markets and mosque where we got to meet and watch the six men who sing the call to prayer. What an experience that was!

Visited the devastating Sednaya prison. Maaloula has a church where you can listen to a prayer in Aramaic— the language spoken by Jesus (which only a few speak) and drink blue wine- yes that’s a thing!

We visited Homs, completely shattered during the war, but the resilience of the people and how it’s being rebuilt is inspiring.

We also visited the city of Aleppo— one of the oldest cities and markets in the world, the citadel with jaw-dropping views. Jebeili soap factory— to watch one of the oldest olive oil soap being made.

Idlib, a city very difficult to visit during the Assad regime was fascinating. Spoke to locals who were very welcoming.

The ruins of Palmyra will take your breath away as will the Krak des Chevaliers— a medieval fortress that’s immaculately preserved.

Bosra has a Roman theater that will blow your mind. It’s probably the best preserved (in my opinion) in the world.

Food- insanely good (I’m vegetarian)

People- some of the kindest on the planet.

Culture— speechless, they’ve gone through unimaginable times, yet they’ll share their last meal with you.

Go visit. I’m glad I found this group. Wanted to share my thoughts if people want to visit. I also made a video of my journey if anyone is interested in going.

https://youtu.be/Lp9g_uW2OiU?is=9iD74lpqWcGnvUjX

It’s a country that will stay with you forever.

Discussion

• Upvotes

Discussion Iranian refusal to take ownership of their crimes in Syria

• Upvotes

Salam/Hello to all of my Syrian friends!

Has anyone here experienced this when engaging with Iranians on what Iran did in Syria?

Even the Iranians that are adamantly opposed to the regime get offended when you point out Iran’s war crimes.

They will deflect and say, “No that wasn’t Iran but the iSlamIc rEpUbLiC. We had nothing to do with it”, while ignoring the Iranian public’s support for the regime’s actions. FFS, even the highest ranking diplomat under the Pahlavi regime, Ardeshir Zahedi, defended Iran’s actions in Syria and praised Soulemani as a patriot.

Why can’t they just take ownership and apologize to Syrians?

It’s like a Japanese saying it was imperial Japan and not Japan that committed crimes against much of Asia during the Second World War. To me, Iranian crimes in Syria are similar to Japan’s crimes in Korea, especially the use of “comfort women” which Iranian generals used Syrian Muslim women as such.

History The Eight Golan Rifles, from 1968 War of Attrition |

After the Battle of Karameh in 1968, and during the War of Attrition, the Jordanian Armed Forces took part in repeated commando raids into the occupied Arab lands. During this period, an elite reconnaissance patrol consisting of eight soldiers crossed into the occupied Golan Heights. The unit confronted a numerically superior occupation force and sustained total casualties while holding its defensive positions without surrendering.

Following the engagement, the soldiers’ rifles were driven into the soil of the ridge at the site of their final stand on the slopes of the occupied Golan Heights, opposite the northern Jordanian border village of Al-Mukhaybah al-Tahta, which overlooks the Yarmouk River.

Although the specific details of the detachment remain undisclosed, the event is preserved through documented oral testimonies of veterans from the Northern Military Region within the framework of Jordan’s 1968 cross-border operations. To this day, the site stands as a memorial to the sacrifices and the doctrine of the Arab soldier in the face of occupation.

ASK SYRIA Renting a car in Damascus and driving to Aleppo ourselves - how realistic is this?

Hey! We’re three Polish guys visiting Syria on 5–11 November 2026. We’re considering renting a car in Damascus and doing this route ourselves:

  • 5–6 Nov: Damascus
  • 7 Nov: Damascus → Palmyra → Hama
  • 8 Nov: Hama → Krak des Chevaliers → Latakia
  • 9 Nov: Latakia → Saladin Castle → Barisha → Aleppo
  • 10 Nov: Aleppo
  • 11 Nov: Fly out of Aleppo

Has anyone driven these routes recently? Is this reasonably safe and manageable for foreign visitors, particularly around Palmyra and between Latakia, Barisha and Aleppo? What are the roads and checkpoints like?

We’d also love to know whether any of these stops require permits, and whether rental companies allow this route and a one-way drop-off in Aleppo. Any recommendations for reliable companies with decent insurance would help.

We’re trying to keep costs down, but happy to change parts of the route if driving ourselves would be a bad idea. Recent firsthand experiences would be really useful. Thanks!

Despite attitudes towards LGBT people in the country, I think he needs to push more LGBT rights in the country

He comes from western privelage

ASK SYRIA Seeking to Understand Alawite Beliefs About Imam Ali, Prophet Muhammad, and the Ahl al-Bayt

Hello everyone,

I am from Pakistan, and I am interested in knowing about the Alawite faith from people who belong to the community or have reliable knowledge of its teachings.

I have come across different descriptions of Alawite beliefs, particularly regarding Imam Ali, and I would like to understand these beliefs from authentic sources rather than relying on secondhand information.

I have a few questions:

  1. Imam Ali (عليه السلام): Do Alawites believe that Imam Ali is God, a manifestation of God, or understand his status in a different way? What do Alawite teachings actually say about this?

  2. Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ): What is his role and status in Alawite theology? How is his relationship with Imam Ali understood?

  3. Lady Fatima (سلام الله عليها): What do Alawites believe about Lady Fatima, her spiritual status, and her place in their faith?

  4. Karbala and Imam Hussain (عليه السلام): How do Alawites understand the martyrdom of Imam Hussain and the events of Karbala? What significance does Muharram have in Alawite tradition?

  5. The Twelve Imams: Do Alawites recognize all Twelve Imams acknowledged in Twelver Shia Islam? If so, what status and authority do they attribute to them?

  6. Religious practices: What are the main religious beliefs and practices of Alawites, and how do they differ from those of Twelver Shia Muslims?

  7. Sources and teachings: Are there any reliable books, scholarly works, or publicly accessible sources through which someone unfamiliar with the faith can learn about Alawite theology?

I am asking in good faith and would appreciate thoughtful, informative responses. I understand that Alawite theology has its own historical context and that descriptions of the faith can vary depending on the source.

I would particularly value responses from Alawites themselves and recommendations for credible sources that explain the tradition accurately.

Thank you.

Initiative - مبادرة Two students bringing solar electricity to orphanages in Syria ☀️

Post image
257 Upvotes

Hi everyone!

My name is Jad, and together with my friend, we founded Shams, a Swiss non-profit organization with a simple mission: bring reliable and sustainable electricity to orphanages and children's centers in Syria.

We're both engineering students at ETH Zurich, and we decided to put our technical knowledge into something that could make a real difference.

Our first project aims to install a complete solar energy system, including solar panels, inverters, and battery storage, at an orphanage in Qudsaya. The goal is to provide reliable electricity for lighting, refrigeration, education, and everyday activities.

We've already made significant progress: the technical design is ready, we've established contacts with local suppliers and organizations in Syria

We're looking for people who want to be part of this initiative. Whether you have connections in Syria, experience in renewable energy, know organizations or potential sponsors, or simply want to help spread the word, we'd genuinely love to hear from you.

We believe rebuilding Syria starts with concrete projects, and even small initiatives can make a difference.

You can learn more about us here:

Website: https://shamsolar.org

 LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/shamsolar/

And of course, if you have any questions about the project, the technical design, our funding, or how we plan to implement it, feel free to ask in the comments. We'd be happy to discuss everything openly.

Thank you, and let's bring some light back to Syria! ☀️

Discussion Licensing ?

So about buisness licensing , the goverment in the beginning said it will pursue open market liberalisation of the economy it did introduce many laws supporting foreign investments .

Yet it didnt address the central problem that made the assad era economy crony and inefficient corrupt etc the licenceses .

It shortened the waiting period to 30 days but doesnt this go against open market economy and opens to dangers and misgivings faced by licensing as it doesnt end well in any country .

What is the goverment reasoning for this and is this a problem or necessary step due to constraints set up by the conditions of the country.
