Hey everyone,

We heard your numerous requests for a space where Lebanese people can connect beyond politics and news, and we are happy to introduce r/lebanonLounge, a new sister sub connected to r/lebanon, run by the same mod team as this one with some new faces joining in.

The idea is simple: a lighter space for the Lebanese community to meet people, make friends, post dating introductions, plan meetups, ask for relationship advice, talk about music, movies, anime, gaming, hobbies, gossip, and just unwind without politics or news taking over every conversation.

A quick overview of our rules:

  • No politics or news
  • No NSFW content or hookups
  • Be polite and respectful. This is a non negotiable.
  • Dating posts are for Lebanese people only, whether local, expat, or diaspora
  • No ads, sales, or promotions

If you are looking for friends, community, conversation, or just a more relaxed Lebanese corner of Reddit, come join us at r/lebanonLounge.

See you there ☕🇱🇧

News Articles Investigation showed that underage rape in Tripoli is extremely common and cheap. In a time when the capital punishment is abolished and general amnesty laws are passed, more and more criminals are free to destroy our society.

And ofc this sub is full of people not from lebanon claiming theyre lebanese (xioooo) will defend like its their right to have an opinion on an idea they know nothing about except lies.

Culture / History Wait, Beirut Had a City Pop Scene During the Civil War?!

Album cover art

I recently came across a fascinating video on Instagram about Beirut City Pop, a music scene from the 1980s where Lebanese musicians blended Japanese City Pop, jazz, and Brazilian influences to create something unique. What amazes me most is that all of this happened during the Lebanese Civil War, when musicians from different backgrounds came together despite the country's divisions to make music, with some recordings taking place at Ziad Rahbani's studio.

Decades later, their music is finally being rediscovered and reissued by Habibi Funk. I find it incredible that during one of Lebanon's darkest periods, people still found ways to come together through music and creativity, never imagining their work would reach a new generation. It is truly ball knowledge i never expected to learn about recently.

The album is called Habibi Funk 035: Beirut City Pop

Discussion Have you guys ever made a friend from r/lebanon? How was it like?

• Upvotes

Title pretty much sums it up.

Personally, I've met a few people from this community over the years and I'm genuinely glad that some of them have become friends I can appreciate outside of Reddit. I've also lost touch with a few along the way but I guess that's just part of life.

Have any of you ever became friends with someone from r/lebanon ? Did you meet in person? Feel free to share

Discussion I'm a shell of a human due to parental emotional neglect; I need to leave my parents' house TONIGHT so I can start a new life. Where do I go?

I only have around $1,000 and no job. I can't take this anymore. Staying with them in the house is clearly not doing me any favors, and in fact it just keeps triggering my depression and anxiety and rumination. They're both such NPCs who do nothing in their free time but watch the news (there's always aljadeed or almanar or some other crappy news channel playing loudly 24/7 in our house!) and scroll through Instagram & tiktok. They live such a sickeningly conspicuous routine and it's driving me insane.

I'm a male in his mid 30s! I need this nightmare to end. Where the heck can I go live for a lengthy period of time given my financial issue? Is this even plausible?

Discussion Today i sat down in Malibou, Saifi beirut downtown

I love sharing my observations on Reddit, so here’s one.

Today i sat down in Malibou, Saifi beirut downtown.

Oh my goodness.

To anyone who wants to see the RICH side of beirut, go to that place. It’s even richer than Zeituna bay.

I don’t belong there, as an average person from middle class family, but decided to go out of curiosity.

Ordered a drink (caramel lattee) which costed 10$

H o l y shit, there’s so much rich people in Lebanon.

G classes, range rovers parked everywhere.

At some point, a Bugatti stopped by and two girls went over the kiss the guy, before he drove away and started speeding (the fast cars you hear on highways speeding with bursting loud music? That place is their lounge)

Girls and guys are dressed in brands, with full make up and perfectly tanned skin, no pimples or bumps anywhere, coiffed hair, 10% body fat (i felt the need to go into details, to give you the perfect picture of what the people looked like, lol)

I generally don’t believe in stereotypes, but the ‘papi w mami’ was true.

Overheard two girls talking, one was saying how her dad talked to the company’s owner who was a friend of her dad. She claimed, manager told her she doesn’t have to come at 9 and could leave earlier. She also emphasized she could take hundreds of brakes in her job.

I don’t know what these people did, to be able to afford 500,000$+ apartments in that area and cars that cost well above 100,000$+ but it’s DEFINITELY not working any kind of job, lol. (I know in old days people made wealth in Saudi, but you get my point)

I guessed why the experience was a bit shocking, is that we’ve gotten used to the devastation, wars, economic crumbles and poverty in Leb. But no, no, NO.

There’s literally a luxurious area that is full of millionaires hanging around, and they hang out at THIS place.

A black African lady, dressed in a branded dress, was sitting there. Perfectly painted nails, honestly never saw such an attractive black female ever (hope it didn’t sound racist) She most likely, belongs to the rich Lebanese African families mining diamonds in Africa.

A teenage girl, got out of a huge 4X4. That car, my friends, is something i can’t afford, with all my life savings of my 4 years employment here. LMAO.

Not to sound depressing, but it really opens one’s eyes on the inequalities of life.

Going there will shock you, since a completely different vibe of this country, people living in a different reality than middle / lower classed people.

There’s no moral story, just felt like sharing this observation, haha.

Help / Question GRA - GA at lau-aub

I am a CS graduate with a shit 2.33 GPA from a lesser known university in Lebanon (Phoenicia University); however, I work as an AI engineer for a very reputable company in the US( they have their dev company in lebanon because cheaper), and I was wondering if that would help me get a GRA, GA, or any scholarship to work toward a master's degree at LAU or AUB, and if it is possible for my experience to compensate for my GPA.

That, ofc, Continuing my work and attend classes ba3ed dohor

Help / Question Good Tennis Clubs

Hello, I have been playing tennis for the past 6 years and I never got any real coaching, I always learnt from youtube.

However, I want to level up my game and I am looking to see if there are any good tennis clubs around beirut / keserwan district that would allow me to play like 5-6 hours a day with a coach for like 3-4 months during the summer. And if so, how much I should expect to pay?

Thank you.

Discussion Lebanon Real Estate seems to be changing

Thumbnail

I’ve been browsing OLX on housing prices, real estate in Lebanon.

It seems home sellers are now, due to the crisis, selling smaller apartments to accommodate the market?

Never have i seen apartments for 50k in the capital beirut (sin el fil), multiple ones actually.

It’s important to mention real estate is not getting cheaper, just smaller projects.

Had to double check I’m reading right, they weren’t down payments. Anyone noticed this market shift?

Or was it always like this? (Not an expert in housing market)
