AITA Quarterly Open Forum Oct - Dec 2026

Keep things Civil! Rules still apply.

Greetings Assholes!!! Happy All the Holidays between now and January 2027!! Way too many to list.

This quarter, we are going to go over Rule 3 - No Violence. A topic that’s dear to my heart and one that covers so many different scenarios.

The very heart of this rule is “Do not even mention violence”. Very simple on the surface, very complicated once you dive down. It sometimes seems like we are being too specific/granular on what constitutes violence - we get that. But violence tends to breed violence, so the most benign post/comment can spiral into some off the charts shit.

The violence rule break is often the result of a soft topic going off the rails. Example: Someone is put out by their partner picking food off of their plate. What we see: “stab them with your fork, that’ll teach them (assault)!” Or, someone is stealing lunches out of the break room - “just put some hot shit in there, that’ll teach them (poison/assault)” Or, the kid goes around hitting people (assault) begets “just beat their ass (assault)!” Simple, common things we’ve all said at some point in our lives. Still violence.

The hardest ones for us are those that deal with abuse of any sort. It’s easy to jump on that hate train. Truthfully, I’m probably on some of those trains, cause fuck abusers. BUT, we remove those comments/posts because they beget violence - it’s not that we don’t have opinions on those topics, far from it. These break the violence rule and, regardless of our personal opinion, it breaks the rule. It’s as simple as that.

We get MOD mails so filled with anger and spewing hateful shit because “How dare you remove that post for violence. Y’all must agree with them”. No, we don’t - violence is violence. There is enough of it out in the real world, we don’t need it here for any reason.

Finally, the real reason for reviewing this rule: Consent.

Very simply, if anyone touches you without your consent - this is assault. Sexual harassment counts! It is not ‘ick’, it is not ‘smile, they will go away’ - it is something covered by this rule. This is true regardless of gender. Understanding this will help the most when deciding if something is violence or not.

As always, do not directly link to posts/comments or post uncensored screenshots here. Any comments with links will be removed.

We'd like to highlight the regional spinoffs we have linked on the sidebar! If you have any suggestions or additions to this, please let us know in the comments.

AITA for telling a friend to fuck off after she continued lecturing me about a photo I had already deleted at her request?

1.3k Upvotes

For context, we’re both 37-year-old moms with children around the same age.

While trick-or-treating, I took a cute picture of our kids together and asked if I could post it on Instagram. She said yes, but I posted it to my grid rather than my story. She even liked the post and posted my child to her story.

About eight hours later, she messaged me saying she thought I meant my story, not my grid. She explained that she doesn’t even post her own children on her grid.

I explained that my account is private and followed by friends and family, but understood she wasn’t comfortable with it. I immediately agreed to delete it, which I did within 10–15 minutes. She then asked me to confirm I had deleted it rather than archived it, and I reassured her that I had.
I thought that would be the end of it.

Instead, she sent lengthy messages explaining her background as an educator and social worker, her knowledge of online predators, and her strong beliefs about children being on social media. Then another message comparing herself to a “lioness” when protecting her child.

I politely explained that I understood her concerns, would never intentionally put her child in danger, and would be more mindful going forward.

But she continued sending messages about the dangers of social media, how permanent grid posts are, and how she wasn’t willing to budge on her beliefs.

I eventually told her that I respected her boundaries but felt she was lecturing me about something I had already acknowledged and corrected. I also didn’t appreciate feeling like my judgment as a parent was being questioned.

She sent another lengthy response, which I didn’t respond to. So the next day she sent another message in an ALL CAPS saying my pushback made her uneasy, that she had blocked me everywhere, and that I should block her number too.

I finally responded, “I don’t care, kindly fuck off.”
And blocked her.

I acknowledge that I misunderstood what she meant by permission to post the picture. But I immediately corrected it. My issue is how the communication continued after I had already respected her wishes.

AITA for snapping at her, or did this interaction go way too far?

TL;DR: I misunderstood permission to post a friend’s child on my Instagram grid instead of my story. I immediately deleted it when asked, but she continued lecturing me about social media and my parenting. I eventually snapped and told her to fuck off.

AITA for asking my wife to sleep on the couch

1.8k Upvotes

I need some opinions. My wife and I have been married for two years and we are in a tough spot.

About two and a half months ago my wife and SIL were in a car crash. My SIL did not make it and it has been devastating for my wife.

After this my wife fell into a depression state and lost her job since she was not going. I work in construction and the health insurance through my job kinda sucks. We were using her jobs insurance until she got fired.

My jobs insurance does not cover therapy and with one person not working, I am now working 10 to 12 hours shifts to keep us afloat. So to send her to therapy without insurance is a lot. We are tring to get some through the some program and are on a waiting list.

We live on a one bedroom apartment, so we sleep in the same bed. The issue is she has been having nightmare. I know she can not control that. Unfortunately she does wake me up in the middle of the nigh, either she is loud or she toss and turns a lot. With the 10-12 hours shifts I am exhausted.

Being woken up in the middle of the night makes it worse. My job is also physical so a soft bed is really needed or I will be in pain the next morning. I have slept on our couch a few times, it isn’t a new couch and I just feel like shit after sleeping there after a long day.

I asked her to sleep on the couch once or twice a week so I could get a good night sleep. We got into a huge argument and she is not talking to me at the moment.

I just want a good nights sleep and I can’t sleep on the couch or I will be in pain the next morning.

AITA for asking the police for ID?

AITA for asking the police offices who knocked on my house at 10pm at tonight for ID and to see their badge number? They were requesting access through a locked door to a shared passageway which I have a key to.

I said I was happy to help, before I let them though can I see ID, the police woman replied that she was in police uniform & had a police van, I asked to see her badge no as it wasn’t immediately visible to me (they were also stood in the dark).

As I went to grab the key I heard the officer remark to her colleague ‘it’s beggars belief!’ About my questions, to which I replied that I thought they would appreciate some security consciousness.

I was not expecting the police, and about 30 mins before they turned up my neighbour had actually text me to say they were away for a few days hence my hesitation.

They were trying to check on my neighbours son who was still at home but not answering.

So AITA? The police officers comment totally knocked me but surely I’m allowed to ask for verification before I let them onto private property?

AITA for sharing my progress about weightloss

About two and a half months ago I got a personal trainer and started working towards losing weight. I started at 370 lbs or higher, don't fully know. Now im already down to 330. Im very happy with the progress ive made so far.

Last night I was at a friend's place, hanging out with 4 friends. In passing I mentioned how much ive lost, I didn't make an announcement type thing, just in passing, "hey ive managed to lose 40 lbs and im really happy about it"

This morning one of the friends texted me and said "I need to be more sensitive about talking about weightloss." Went on to say its physically impossible to lose that much in 2.5 months and I will make others feel terrible about themselves if they are trying to lose weight to.

I don't think its an asshole thing to share a milestone in my life, what do you think.

Edit: I just want to thank everyone for how encouraging you've all been, I was really bummed when they texted me that, but this all helps more than I thought it would

AITA for asking my husband to warn me if he's about to make an awful noise?

Hello my husband and I just had a disagreement and he told me to "go ask people" if I'm being unreasonable. He thinks it's an asshole thing to ask.

I kinda have misophonia but it's only triggered by a couple of things (hard candy and ice) so it's really uncommon for it to even come up.

One of them is chewing up a big hard candy like werthers. It's like fingernails on a blackboard, it causes a physical response, I can feel it in my ears and neck and teeth, and it's awful. Literally a similar physical response to fingernails on a blackboard, it briefly overrides every other sense.

I wish it didn't, I don't know why it happens, but here we are. He very rarely eats hard candies like this (and it doesn't happen with smaller candies only big ones, like werthers, big peppermint, and big ice cubes he never chews, that's the whole entire list) so it doesn't come up often.

He picked up a bag of werthers and just now I was cleaning and he ate one, when he crunched it up it triggered my fight or flight, like I took a few deep breaths and managed but it's still a situation I'd rather avoid.

The asshole thing— I asked him to warn me if he's going to chew up a hard candy so I can leave the room. He got extremely offended that i would even dare to ask that of him and said I'm totally unreasonable, it's my issue to manage and it's an asshole thing to even ask.

I told him if I knew something like this bothered him, Id give him a heads up first, honestly I wouldn't do it in the room he's in at all but that's just me. So he told me to go ask people, and that's what I'm doing.

Am I an asshole for asking him to warn me if he's going to make an awful noise akin to fingernails on a blackboard so I can leave the room? I'm not asking him to not eat them, just to give me a heads up so I can go somewhere else.

AITA for not taking my kids to visit my parents?

My wife and I have two young boys, with a third child on the way. For years, we lived just two blocks from my parents, and we would take the kids over at least once a week, sometimes more. I wanted my boys to have a close relationship with their grandparents, so we made the effort.

Meanwhile, my mother-in-law lived much farther away, about 9 miles away, but that never stopped her from visiting. She regularly drove to our house, spent time with the kids, and made an effort to be involved in their lives. She never expected us to do all the traveling.

Recently, we moved farther from my parents and closer to my mother-in-law. Now we are 2 miles from my mother in law and seven miles from my parents. You would think that now that the situation has reversed, my parents would make the same effort she made for years.

Nope.

My mother-in-law STILL comes over regularly, even though we live closer to her now. My parents, however, haven't made any effort to visit. Instead, they call and ask, "When are you bringing the boys over?" or tell me that I need to bring them by.

When I suggest that they come to our house instead, they try to guilt-trip me into bringing the kids to them.

Why is it automatically my responsibility to maintain the relationship between my parents and my children?

I love my parents, and I want them involved in my kids' lives. I'm not keeping the boys away from them. They're more than welcome to visit whenever they want. But I don't understand why my wife and I are expected to pack up the kids, drive over, and make all the arrangements when my parents are perfectly capable of coming to us.

We're raising two young children, preparing for a third, working, and managing our household. We already have enough responsibilities without being solely responsible for maintaining everyone else's relationship with our kids.

What bothers me most is that my mother-in-law has demonstrated for years that distance doesn't have to be an obstacle. She makes the effort because spending time with her grandchildren matters to her.

Being a grandparent is more than just having the title. Relationships require effort from both sides.

I've stopped going out of my way to take the boys over. Not to punish my parents, but because I want to see whether they'll take the initiative themselves.

So far, they haven't. They just keep calling and asking when I'm bringing the kids over.

Part of me feels guilty because my boys love their grandparents, and I don't want them missing out on that relationship. But another part of me feels that I'm setting a reasonable boundary.

I'm not asking my parents to do anything my mother-in-law hasn't already been doing for years. I'm simply asking them to make an effort.

My door is always open, but I'm done being the only one making plans.

AITA for asking my roommate to share the living room?

My roommate moved her mattress into the living room and slept there for 3 days plus left garbage all over the place. I work nights and would come home to her sleeping in the living room (which is connected to the kitchen) and when I would get up before work she would still be there sleeping or watching TV. I’ve been unable to use the living room and have to tiptoe around the kitchen for days. I finally asked if she could move back to her room so I could also use the living room. She said I could’ve used it while she was sleeping there, then got super defensive and played the victim saying “I don’t know what I did wrong,” and took it as a personal attack. To me it seems like common sense to treat the living room, bathroom, and kitchen as common spaces and your bedroom as your personal space. I don’t know if I’m overreacting or if I’m justified in asking for access to the spaces I also pay rent for. AITA?

AITA for selling a car that my grandparents bought me as a birthday gift?

• Upvotes

My grandparents got me a 2021 Jeep Compass Trailhawk for my 16th birthday right after I got my license. It was a previous rental, they bought it in 2023, and I’ve been driving it for about three years.

At first the thing was solid. I liked it, it was reliable, felt good to drive. Then the problems started stacking up. One thing after another. Eventually it got to the point where I was just throwing money at it and it still wasn’t right. Dealership offered me $9500 for it and I took the bag.

Car was in my name, insurance was in my name. I didn’t even start paying the insurance myself until I turned 18 cause I didn’t have a job before that.

Now my grandparents are pissed. My mom’s not happy either. They’re acting like I was supposed to keep it forever and just keep fixing it because it was a “gift.”

I get why they’re mad. They dropped real money on it for me and I know that was a big gesture. I’m not ungrateful for that. But I’m also not about to keep pouring money into a car that’s constantly breaking.

AITA for washing my husbands keys

AITA I normally do the laundry in the household (just me and husband) I accidentally washed his keys and he could only find the emergency key that goes in the actual remote key and he doesn't have a spare. They were in the hamper and I just forgot to check and I feel horrible that this isn't the first time I've washed them he just has a bad habit of not emptying his pockets and I have a bad habit of not checking pockets. He is angry and was ignoring meand even said an out of pocket comment and I cried and apologized but there's only so much I can do. AITA?

Not the A-hole AITA for asking for receipts?

I recently took a trip with my family. My sister ordered an Uber and later sent a Venmo request to split the cost after the trip. the problem is, it was over 2x what I saw when looking on the app at the same time. (I almost booked the ride and had the app up as well. ) Rides were around $70 at the most expensive . She said she paid $175. When I got the request I remarked that it was was more and asked to see the receipt. She says she doesn’t have one and can no longer login to her account. I told her I would pay for my portion of the $70 I saw until I saw the receipt and paid her the same day. Now she is upset and my family is saying I should “just trust her”. Shes also now refusing to pay me her portion of the phone bill and dropped me from our Spotify family plan. I’ve told her I’m willing to pay once I see the receipt. AITAH?

WIBTA if I turned off family tagging on my social media after my aunt keeps doing it without asking

I am thinking about locking down my social media so relatives cannot tag me anymore. My aunt keeps adding my name to every family photo she posts, even when I have asked her not to. It is not huge photos or anything private, but it feels like she is deciding for me how much of my life shows up on other peoples feeds. I just want to limit who can label me without having to check every post twice. My cousin says I am overreacting because it is all in the family anyway and that turning off the tags will make my aunt feel shut out. She also worries it will make other relatives think I am hiding something or that I do not want to be included in group pictures anymore. I get that it seems small to them, but it is starting to bother me every time I see a new notification. I am not planning to make a big announcement or unfriend anyone. I would just flip the setting so nobody can tag me without permission. Still, I keep wondering if doing that quietly would come across as cold or dramatic to the rest of the family.

AITA for meeting my bfs favorite artist without him

For context, my boyfriend and I went to a concert last night with his cousin. We were there to see two artists we both really love. I’m not as deep into it as my boyfriend though and they were drinking quite a bit. His cousin disappeared for a while and when he returned, he showed us a photo with the artist and a signed shirt. My boyfriend was beating himself up because he didn’t get to meet him. I encouraged him to go with his cousin over and over but he refused because he didn’t want to miss the set list for the other artist. I asked his cousin to take me to him, took my bfs merch and I got it signed for him because he was so sad.
I tried RELENTLESSLY to get him down there to meet him. Sent several messages, called him and no luck. Then the artist had to leave.
At the end of the concert, I showed it to him and he was like “did you really meet him” and he was just so upset that we’d both met him without him.
He was very drunk and we haven’t talked since but I want to know if I messed up and just shouldn’t have done that.
I thought I was doing something amazing for him but I am no longer so sure.

WIBTAH if I banned the neighbors kids from coming to play with our dogs?

Hi Reddit. My wife (27f) and I (30m) moved to the area back in January. It's a pretty rural area so we only have 2 close neighbors. Yesterday, 2 of my neighbors kids came over to our front door(which we don't use) and asked my wife if they could play with our dogs. She went out back in our fenced in yard and let the dogs out to play with the boys and stood out there with them. I wasn't home at the time, but when I got home, I made them leave because I had brought dinner home. This was okay of course because it was Sunday, we didn't have anything going on otherwise. Today, Monday, the boys came to our front door again asking to play with the dogs. My wife and I both work from home, and I'm on and off of calls all day and of course when they knocked the dogs went berserk like they usually do. My wife told them we were about to leave, which was true because we went out to eat eventually after we got off work. I have a feeling this is going to become a regular occurrence and honestly I'm pretty annoyed. We are complete strangers to this neighbor. I met him one time several months ago. I have never met these children and I'm not comfortable with them coming and playing with my dogs. If we let them, we have to sit outside with the dogs and basically babysit these children because I'm not leaving strange children alone with my dogs, plus if one of my dogs bites one of these kids, I'll be responsible, because one of our dogs can be a little snappy, not like aggressively but he play bites when he gets excited. If this starts happening frequently, would I be the asshole if I told these kids to stop coming by? Do I tell the parents? How do I avoid these children coming over here without looking like a total dick? My wife and I struggle with anxiety pretty bad and we're both pretty antisocial so I don't like the idea of confronting these parents.

AITA for yelling at my backseat driver wife

4.2k Upvotes

My wife has an extreme phobia as the passenger of a vehicle.

I recently raised my voice after she suddenly yelled "Stop! Stop!" as I approached a green light. The light wasn't changing from/to red, it was in the middle of the green cycle. As usual, she assumed the cross traffic approaching their red light was going to ignore their red and plow into the intersection and kill us all. This happens pretty regularly at four way stops. She just assumes other cars won't stop.

She routinely drives 10-15 over but says she's nervous and wants me to slow down if I go 2 over. I'm following too close when I'm 10 car lengths back. She panickedly informs me every time she sees a brake light go on in front of me ("look out! they're braking!"). Sometimes her unnecessary panic can create real road dangers as she screams like we're about to be in an imminent crash and scares the shit out of me.

She is terrified being a passenger and spends every moment of every trip scared and visually scanning for danger while nagging me and dramatically reacting to false alarm dangers. I'm a pretty safe driver and have never been in an accident. I don't speed excessively or drive dangerously. I follow the flow of traffic.

I've had hundreds of calm discussions with her about it asking her to chill out and stop. I ask if she'd rather drive and she says no.

This week I raised my voice and chewed into her pretty bad over her screaming stop as I drove through a green light. She got very defensive about me raising my voice but I'm pretty done with this shit.

Am I the asshole here? Nothing is working to change her behavior.

Not the A-hole AITA for "punishing" my brother by not getting him a gift

2.1k Upvotes

I turned 21 last month and my older brother didnt get me anything. Not even a card.

My dad asked me what I wanted to do with him and my brother for my birthday this year so I asked to visit this vegan restaurant I love because they do this awesome sweet potato salad concoction lol. Plus my dad said he wanted to be more health aware this year so I thought he'd appreciate a "health" place.

Anyway my dad starts driving us to the spot and passes me my gift through the gap in the chair. (Its locket with a picture of my recently passed cat and one of her teeth encased in resin. I love it and it means so much to me).

My brother asks to see it and Damn near screams and throws the box back at my face and says its gross/disgusting and why would I ever want that. I think its a little rude but I know how he is and I just want to have a good day so I leave it.

I than jokingly ask where my present from him is if my dad's was so "gross"

he says "oh I hate getting presents for my birthday so I didnt get you one"....what? He's never mentioned not liking presents before but okay.

I asked "oh..not even a card?"

And he gets quiet and says no,he didnt get me anything.

Dinner went fine until the end when my brother called me stupid and began shouting because i said the wrong word in relation to a game mechanic on COD.

He also said he'd pay for his meal but my dad ended up having to pay as he "forgot his card". He promised hed pay our dad back but never did.

Fast forward to yesterday my dad sent me my brothers Christmas list (we all make one, parents included and just get whatever we can afford off the list). I tell my dad hes not getting anything from me this year after he didnt get me a card for my birthday.

My dad thinks this is unfair and petty but my brother makes 5 grand a month and couldn't even get me a card for my 21st? Plus he said he hates presents so I dont see the problem.

Apparently my dad mentioned this to my brother last night because now my phones blowing up with messages from him asking why im punishing him by not getting him a gift because he "forgot" my birthday card.

AITA for telling my friend she should be grateful her foster parents even wanted her after she got nasty with me for having to take care of my daughter?

• Upvotes

This whole situation is so stupid yet has escalated in ways I never thought it would. To start off, I'm a 22 year old girl. I have a 2 year old daughter (had her at 19). I'm thankful to have had a great support system all around because it hasn't been easy. Anyway, I have a friend who I've known since late high school. We're relatively close and we're always there for each other. She was there for me the entire time I needed her to be and I've always told her how grateful I was. Her birthday was coming up so of course she decided to celebrate it with me and the rest of our friends from high school. I told her I'd make it work but as the day got closer, my daughter got sick. Unfortunately, my mom wasn't available for the later half of the afternoon when my friend's birthday celebration would start and I couldn't be there for the entire first half of it because there would be nobody to look after my child. The plan was that I'd watch my daughter until my mom came home from work and then I'd go to my friend's celebration. I thought that sounded pretty reasonable but not to my friend. She got upset about it and told me I could never stick to a plan (kinda hard when I have a young child and things come up but sure).

I told her I tried my best to come up with a plan but nobody was available all day due to differing schedules or other plans except my mom who could at the very least take care of my daughter afterwards. She somehow managed to turn the situation into something bigger by saying things like "the one day I actually want to do something super exciting, you can't even be there the whole time", "you're probably just going to back out last second", etc. I tried explaining it to her again and she told me I should've been smart enough to not get pregnant so early and how my daughter has done nothing but change things between us. I told her if that's what she thought, she could've a) expressed that to me in a simple conversation and b) I could just stay home since she honestly hurt my feelings with what she said. Like, I felt like total shit.

She told me "I'd expect nothing less of you, go take care of that damn child then" and that's when I told her that she should be grateful that her foster parents even wanted her because nobody else did. She hung up on me after. I didn't end up going because she texted me later saying not to bother and that I ruined her birthday. Of course I immediately felt bad but I apologized and explained that she made me feel bad first especially with the last few things she said. She only saw my message and didn't respond. She didn't block me on anything thankfully but still wouldn't answer me even after I waited a day to ask her how was she was doing, apologize again, and ask if she wanted to talk. I also had a gift for her that I still dropped off and that her dad took but she never texted me back and still hasn't. Am I an asshole for that?

AITAH for complaining when my husband helps himself to my drink without asking?

Okay…I admit I am a Diet Coke addict. I don’t drink coffee and I do usually have a Diet Coke with me at most of the time throughout the day. I always drink from the can. I used to use a straw but quit the straw a few years ago.

My husband will just grab my DC whenever he feels like it and drink from it. To use to swallow pills or just to have a sip of something. He will drink from the straw, when I used to use one, and now from the can itself.

It’s not like he does it when we are in the desert and I’m the only one with liquid.. he will do it when we are in the kitchen and there are 2 dozen cans available to him as well as water or any other beverage of his choice. BTW he NEVER will order a Diet Coke at a restaurant or buy himself one at any store. He ONLY wants to drink from my can.

When I complain he says I’m selfish for not sharing… or he makes comments like “oh you have such a hard life”. I think his behavior is extremely passive aggressive. He will also often do a dramatic “aaaaaaahhhh” after taking a sip of my Coke.

And yes I have had calm conversations with him telling him how I feel yet this has been ongoing for YEARS.

AITA for calling an 8 year old a punk?

• Upvotes

So to set the stage im a rec league coach for a children's sport and our antagonist is a player on another team.

So we had a game recently where we played another team and this one kid kept harassing my teams kids. (mind you their all 1st and 2nd graders) I heard him call my kids losers, dumb asses, idiots I watched him "emote" in our teams faces and I was getting told every other stop in the action about new things this kid was doing to upset the kids on my team. I tried telling my kids to "not let the bullies win" and to "be the bigger people" but by the end of the game it was nonstop so finally I said " listen guys if he wants to be a punk let him be a punk but we're going to ignore him" loud enough that he and his team heard it. It created a minor amount of drama as a few kids on the other team didn't want to participate in hand shakes with me at the end. I know how I feel about it but im curious where I fall on the spectrum of asshole?

Not the A-hole WIBTA if I tell my child and their spouse to not bother coming for Christmas if they can’t appreciate what little we can give them?

1.7k Upvotes

WIBTAH if I tell my child and their spouse to not bother coming for Christmas if they can’t appreciate what little we can give them? First a little back story, my kids spouse comes from a family that buys affection, manipulates using money, gifts have stipulations or are used to guilt trip etc. Very narcissistic controlling manipulative mother. To the point my child and their family have moved out of state twice to “get away” from the mother… I told all of my kids years ago including my kids spouses, we will never buy your love, or your time. Even if we were millionaires we will never buy your love, or your time, gifts are gifts without conditions or guilt trips.
Well I found out that kids spouse said to another one of my kids that they aren’t coming for Christmas if all they get is dollar store presents. For the past 3 1/2 years, we have been struggling financially, as so many others, trying to stay afloat and have almost lost our house several times. Have had to be on payment plans for every bill we have and have had to eat super cheap (ramen, peanut butter & jelly etc.) there were several times I didn’t eat because there wasn’t enough food for all of us, had to borrow money to get utilities turned back on or to prevent it from being turned off etc… I hadn’t bought body wash or shampoo for myself in over a year, I just used very little of my husbands or thankfully some had been gifted to me by a customer at my old job. I have been wearing the same shoes that have holes in the bottoms, I’ve had to sew the one bra I own multiple times to keep it together, you get the picture… but for Christmas we didn’t want to give our kids and grandkids nothing… so we literally scraped together every spare piece of change we could find, literally counting & rolling coins just to be able to give them something because we enjoy it, not because we think that is what holidays are about. So while yes they may be from the dollar store or the clearance section at Walmart, we choose each one with love.
Anyways, I’m to the point where I want to tell them to not even bother coming until they remember that in this house we visit because we enjoy family time and love each other, not for what you might get out of it. I also want to say something to my children that heard that comment and any others like it and ask why they just let it go and didn’t defend us when they all know how hard we struggle. So would I be the AH if I tell them if that’s what they look for in Christmas or any holidays to not bother coming?

AITAH for not letting my dad see my son?

For a little bit of context, my father is a recovering alcoholic who still slips from time to time. Despite this, he is an amazing grandfather to my son (3yo). He plays with him, takes him outside and shows him new things. We are very close with him and talk to him almost every day.
A couple of days ago, my dad comes over to visit and we had a great time. As he is leaving, he goes to grab his tumbler with his drink. My son curiously asks what his drink is and my dad says “It’s grape juice, do you want some?” My son agrees and he drinks it. He starts to make a funny face and my hearts drops. I drink it right after my son to see what it is, and it’s beer. I immediately kick him out of my house and haven’t talked to him since.
My mom called me the same day and told me that my dad didn’t remember what was in his cup and he felt so bad, he genuinely thought it was his grape juice that he was drinking right before he poured the beer in his cup. He does struggle with memory issues from time to time so i somewhat believe him, but at the same time i don’t think any justification should be given for giving alcohol to a 3 year old. AITAH?

AITAH for the argument I had with my stepmom mom for frying food that she doesnt allow

I 15m wasn’t thinking today and I put some food that i got from a shop as a meal into the frying pan. Part of the food is against my stepmom 38f and my dad’s 44m religion but he doesn’t care as much. My stepmom was in the lounge and she walked in to the kitchen and because with frying, the smell fills the room. She also can’t stand the smell of it so she started making a fuss about the smell and said I should only be eating that food outside of the house if I want to at all and that I shouldn’t bring let alone cook it inside the house. I said she could just go back into the other room and i’ll be done in a few mins and she responded saying it still makes the kitchen smell of it and when i’ve put it on the sides before or after cooking.

It's not her house legally, they aren't married. My dad also doesn't care if I cook or eat it

AITA for not noticing when my roommate took her dog for a walk and locking the door when going out?

So I (F28) was headed to a gym studio class I had. Background is that this roommate, let's call her IL, tends to not lock the door when it's short distances or just walking her dog within the complex. I always lock anywhere I go and no matter who is or isn't in the house.

When I am on the way to my class, she asks in caps why I locked the door and left. I said "I locked it like usual?" and ask if she's not home. She then tells me she was walking her dog and asks where I go. Of course I tell her I am going to my class and ask if the leasing office can help her. She is like "No" and "you have to come back." I say I will drive back if they don't have anything. She then asks me to leave her alone. I explain I wasn't told she went out to walk him and I saw the light in her room thinking she was there. She says "I got it. Please leave me alone."

I also misunderstand that part as she figured something out. I text her I am sorry, explain I want to sincerely apologize but understand if she needs space and I should've paid more attention and been more aware of my surroundings (I say this as an explanation rather than excuse but having ADHD, which she knows if relevant, makes those difficult for me). She then says she shouldn't have assumed I will notice and asks when I will be back. I then explain close to 2 pm as I will do errands.

I also, because I genuinely want to prevent misunderstanding next time, ask her if she thinks we should communicate throughout the day to be aware if either of us is at home or not. She then says "(my name) I am trying not to be rude." Explains how she said "let's go on walkies" even though it was to the dog and not to me but while I was in the room (I remember having breakfast before getting ready for my class, and I may not pay attention to convos not including me/scroll my phone). She also says things like her door being open when she's gone because of my cat (who she's allergic to), how easy it is to look in the key bowl and see they're in there, see the dog isn't in the kennel, or even just ask. I say the key bowl part doesn't distinguish between her being in the house or stepping out for a short thing and how the last 2 didn't occur to me when I was under the impression she is in the house.

Eventually she just in caps locks yells to come home and let her in, how her boyfriend had to drive to stay in his car instead of outside, etc. I say I didn't know all that and she said she got it making me think she figured something out. And then that I am on the way.

Then when I come and let them in she says she is sorry for getting mad at me.

But now I am wanting to know was I TA for how I handled, or is it on IL for not explicitly communicating to me about being out of the apartment?

AITA for wanting to go to a sporting event even though my wife can’t go?

• Upvotes

I was recently offered a ticket to a sporting event to see our favorite team play. There were 4 tickets offered to someone and they had one remaining so they offered it to me. These seats are extremely expensive club seats that are owned by the owners of the team. So I told my wife about the offer and told her that there is only one ticket available and that she should go to the event. She said no she won’t go without me. So I said okay then I’ll go. and she lost her mind saying that it’s ridiculous I’d consider that. So I asked her what other option there is and she said “you don’t go, and we watch the game at home I would never go to a game without you”. And I said “so you would rather neither of us go just because we both can’t go”? And she adamantly said yes and is giving me all the grief for considering going since she said she doesn’t want to go. AITA for wanting to take advantage of the ticket?
