Recommendations AirPods at tip - am I cooked
Must have dropped them in the bin yesterday - assume they’re past the point of recovery now and time to cut my losses? Or is there anyway to get them back

As the title says, what's one foodie place that no longer exists in Canberra that you have fond nostalgic memories of? Or a menu item that no longer exists or just isn't the same anymore but you always looked forward to it
I really miss the random churros guy who had a little cart serving up fresh hot churros at Fyshwick markets when I was little (maybe 20 years ago?) It was my first time trying churros as a child, and so many years later nothing compares!

Edit: are y’all saying it’s just all of Canberra’s restaurants 😭

Young and Frisky was a go to before they absolutely went to shite and rightfully shut down. No need to spruik El Jannah's fried chicken to me either, I am well acquainted.
PS: Before any prideful territorians jump me, please enjoy Kingsley's to the max but it is not my jam.

I’ve just been in Canberra for the week and absolutely loved it here, I am very interested however of what brought so many people here! Can you all tell me how long you’ve lived here, what made you move here and maybe your fav areas?

This isn't neighbourhood-specific, but I got lunch from BZBurger in Holt and honestly I can't believe I lucked into such a nice, simple and delicious burger joint in my neighbourhood. Delicious, fun, creative burgers. Also they run a cafe if you just want your coffee fix.
So what's yours? Fast food, restaurant, cafe or bakery, whatever, sound off and show some love.

For example I would never get a burger from takeaway because they’re so easy to make it home. What’s a takeaway that you feel like is worth the money particularly because it’s something you can’t/won’t cook. Specific restaurant recommendations would be great as well!! thanks!

This is mainly a rant but I'm curious, is anyone else finding it really hard to get back into the working world?
I had to leave my previous job over a year ago to investigate chronic migraines and have still been stuck without a job regardless of how much I try! I've even be getting rejected from casual retail jobs which I have YEARS of experience in :/
I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong and am really losing hope (which is causing stress and making my migraines worse so yippie 😂)
If other people are in a similar situation or got any tips, would love to hear from folks :3

Not necessarily the trendiest high end places that get recommended every time, what's fun and local, and has been doing it the same way 10+ / 20+ years? Give me the ol reliables.
Snack Shack in Fyshwick for me is a lot more out of my way since I stopped working in the area. It's a plain and basic sandwich bar that still hits with the Tandoori Salad Sandwich every time I've been.
High Road continues to serve the best coffee in Canberra since it opened, always with interesting food options. I also rate The Knox Made in Watson as one of the best hidden gems out there.
And I'll always go in to bat for Brod. I know some people harsh on it. But the Brodveg is the best vego burger you can get, and I have not once been disappointed by anything else I've had there.
Still have a lot of fondness for Turkish Grill Erindale, hit a lot of milestones there, still think the food slaps.
What are yours?

I’ve moved back after 8 years in QLD. I’m not talking wearing Kathmandu jackets or whatever. I’m asking what do YOU do to beat/prevent the winter blues in Canberra?

Recently moved from Ireland to Canberra and am stumped with the choice of cinemas in the area. Hoyts? Limelight? Dendy? Electric?
If there’s any Canberrian cinephiles that can direct me to the cheapest/best value for money/best cinema for releases (I know Australia gets everything late but still) ye would be, as we say in Ireland, a big bunch of legends!

Genuine question: since moving to Canberra and regularly driving around Canberra, I have noticed so, so, SO many cars speeding well beyond 10km (I'm sure it's 15 or sometimes even 20km). I will be driving 80/81/82 in the 80 zone and there are cars ZOOMING past me! Now, my question is, how are these Canberra drivers not scared of getting tagged by the speed cameras??? I mean, they're everywhere in Canberra! Do they just know where the cameras are?? Are they incredibly wealthy and can afford constant fines?? I am just in shock that people here drive so fast 😵 You would think the police would be all over this for some extra revenue haha 😅

Who has been a good property agent? Who has been terrible? Can you please share recommendations for rental agencies to look for or
avoid?

I just had an appointment with Dr Rubel and am so disappointed in how condescending and unhelpful she was. Just wondering if this is standard for dermatologists in Canberra or if other people have had success?
Open to recommendations if anyone has any.

hi everyone,
i am visiting a friend in Canberra and unfortunately cannot stay at her place for the night (sharehouse). I am travelling in a van with black out window covers, so can be pretty stealth.
Does anyone know of anywhere i could pull up for one night safely? I can’t seem to find any campgrounds nearby that aren’t ridiculously expensive.
thanks in advance!

I am a middle-aged, white Caucasian male.
Is there somewhere in Canberra that I can do Reformer Pilates classes without feeling judged?

Daughter is moving to Canberra in the new year and we are starting to look now for accommodation for her. We are in WA, she is currently overseas.
She will be in one of the graduate programs and is looking to rent. Her initial thoughts were the suburbs of Turner, Braddon, Dickson, Acton, Ainslie, Barton and Kingston as she is familiar with them having travelled to Canberra a couple of times with work.
Have started to look on realestate.com and can’t believe the prices for a 1 bed apt. Are there any other Canberra specific sites she should look on or anywhere you can recommend for her to look for perhaps shared accommodation?
Happy for any advice. We know that she/we will have to go across in January to sort it out but now that her position has been confirmed we are trying to do as much homework now as possible.

Given how unreliable the buses are (based off my research of this sub), would we basically be restricted to suburbs close to the light rail?
Places like Braddon, Ainslie, Dickson, Turner etc?
Note: I cycle but my partner doesn't.

Having recently relocated to Canberra with work, my son has been complaining that he hasn’t been able to find a place to buy quality Chicken ‘n’ Chips. He’s been there more than a year now and has struggled to find any in his areas. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated ?
He lives in Belconnen and works in Barton

I moved to Canberra a year ago from Melbourne. I thought coming from a much larger city, I couldn’t possibly notice worse amounts of litter… but I was so wrong.
From the first week living here, I noticed a severe lack of public bins, particularly in high-foot-traffic areas. What is with this? It is mind boggling to me that such a basic piece of public infrastructure isn’t available. The amount of cigarette butts along sidewalks is sickening. The amount of litter in waterways is baffling. The amount of people I see carelessly tossing butts or used food containers on the ground is shocking.
Because so many people seem to be unable to carry their waste with them until they can dispose of it, there is a serious need for more public bins and anti-littering campaigns in the ACT.
Canberra has to be the most beautiful city in Australia. Surrounded by mountains, bush, lakes… let’s actually protect that!!!
