2 weeks ago I posted on this subreddit about my cat that went missing, and the comments left on the post really helped me keep my hopes up about eventually finding her.
Good news! On Tuesday (20/10) a lady contacted me on FB about a ginger cat that has been living in her back garden for three days and lo and behold, it was my girl.
I have since gotten in touch with everyone who has played a part in finding her to express my gratitude, as best I can; neighbours, FB groups, local businesses (special mention to the peeps at Kiitos who were genuinely upset whenever I came in to tell them I’ve not found my cat, and genuinely overjoyed when I came in with good news) and strangers who have texted with leads.
But I somehow forgot to thank those in this subreddit who were extremely kind during such a distressing time. One good thing about my cat going missing is discovering and being the recipient of Canberrans’ kindness. I moved here three months ago for the peace and quiet, and i’m glad to discover that such an incredible community within it as well.
Thank you so much, Canberrans 🩷 Please enjoy the cat tax - my ginger girl has loved being back home and napping on the couch again.

After the previous recycling facility was lost to fire in 2022 the new facility has started construction. Construction is expected to take 18 months.

Hi all, I'm looking to get a custom birthday cake made for end of Nov (reference pic below). The last thread I saw on here similar to this was from 2 years ago, and unfortunately a lot of them are closed or aren't taking custom orders anymore. Any recommendations on local bakeries that could do something similar to this? TIA!

The Inner-North Community Pantries are putting on a fundraiser Halloween Party this Saturday the 31st of October in Finn Street Park, O’Connor.
There will be a bbq, bake sale, mystery book stall. All money raised will be used to help keep community pantries stocked with food and personal care items between the many generous donations.
It’s not just about fundraising though, there’s a free scavenger hunt, games, arts and crafts + more for kids young and old.
Come for the party or drop by between trick or treating, all are welcome.

What is happening in Turner opposite Haig Park? It looks like some energy workers. The sign says evo energy. Are they building something?

Name - Milo
Breed- domestic short hair - "Mackerel" Tabby
Age: 5
Desexed: yes
Microchipped
Last seen: 15 September at 6.30pm Moorhouse st O'Connor
Hi all, trying Reddit to get the message out as I've had no luck so far with letter box drops, door knocking, nightly walks or Facebook posts (lost pet database and others) - but have really appreciated everyone's kind words and potential sightings.
My partner and I recently moved back into my parent's house in Moorhouse st, O'Connor as we sold our house in Lyneham and are waiting to move to our new house.
Unfortunately, a week after we moved in a door was accidentally left open and Milo disappeared into the night.
Milo is an indoor only cat, and is not familiar at all with O'Connor. We'd had some slight hope that he'd make his way home (to either his previous house in Lyneham or the current house), but no such luck.
If anyone has seen him or picked him up let me know so he can come home.

Just a public service announcement, since a question about NY style pizza gets asked on this sub every now and then: Sal’s NY pizza just opened in Braddon.
I’m currently eating a slice of the Fire Island and it’s dope. The buffalo chicken with some blue cheese sauce on the side is legit too, if you’re into that kinda thing.

Date issued: 25 October 2026
Status: Active
High pollen levels, windy conditions and forecasted storms on Sunday 25 October has increased the risk of thunderstorm asthma across the ACT and surrounding region today.
While thunderstorm asthma can affect anyone, you may be at higher risk if you have hay fever, current or past asthma, experience asthma symptoms during spring or are sensitive to grass pollen.
For those people at higher risk:
Monitor for asthma and/or hay fever symptoms.
Take medications as prescribed in your asthma or hay fever action plan. Carry these medications with you when you leave home.
Try to stay indoors with the windows and doors closed.
Avoid being outdoors during gusty winds. While you’re indoors during the storm, turn off any air conditioners that bring outside air inside (including evaporative coolers).
In the event of a medical emergency, call Triple Zero (000). Stay indoors while waiting for an ambulance to arrive.
Thunderstorm asthma events are rare. The increased risk means a thunderstorm asthma event is possible. It does not mean an event will occur.

Does anyone know anywhere in Canberra that sells chicken paprikash with nokeldi? We have been craving it ever since our trip to Hungary last year.
If there’s no restaurant that makes it here, are there any shops that sell nokeldi so we can attempt to make it ourselves?

Could anyone recommend a GP based in Canberra (or Sydney) who specialises in TMJ related problems?
I understand that it’s generally better to consult a dentist about this, but I’d like to see whether I can start with a GP who has experience with this issue.
If you know any other specialists that, based on your experience, are good with this issue, please let me know :)

I'm thinking of attending Spilt Milk for the first time this year, if only to hear the phenomenal voice of Remi Wolf live. I haven't gone to a festival at EPIC before - trying to judge whether it's worth getting the front GA tickets or the rear GA tickets. Do people who have gone previously think front GA is worth the spend? I and my wallet thank you in advance for your wisdom!

I’m no turtle-ologist, but this guy was just chilling on the path in Strathnairn. My tiny dog and I kept our distance and just enjoyed the view before leaving him alone. He seemed pretty happy.
I’ve seen a lot of strange things on the footpaths, but never a little turtle dude.

Hi everyone! Can anyone recommend a reliable and experienced licensed builder who specialises in major building defect rectification works?
We have a split-level home with several building defects, including water ingress into the garage, drainage and waterproofing issues, window glass and shower glass replacements, and other defects requiring rectification.
We’re looking for a builder who has experience handling complex rectification works rather than just new builds or renovations.
Would really appreciate any recommendations, especially from anyone who has dealt with similar issues and successfully had them repaired.
Thanks so much!

My local international grocer stopped selling the frozen rice cakes I use for tteokbokki. I'll be in Canberra next weekend and want to pick up a few bags if any grocers carry it.
Any recommendations would be appreciated 😊

I had halwa puri in Pakistan and was instantly hooked. I want to find it here: the full breakfast plate with puri, sooji halwa, cholay and aloo if possible, but I'll even take parts of it as long as it has the proper puri. I have such a craving! Help!
Does anyone know a restaurant or takeaway that does it? Happy to drive, and weekend-only is fine.

The Western Sydney airport kicks off its first flights today.
Is this the end for Canberra airport? What I mean by that is "Will international flights opt out of using Canberra airport?"
I know there are a lot of issues around costs for airlines, limited passenger flow, etc. But we did see a flurry of international routes pre-COVID, some opening up (and closing) over the past couple of years and rumours of potential new flights routes.
However, I just don't think it'll compete with WSI for Southern NSW because of the lack of size, price, and recent failures, not to mention how many more people WSI will attract from within Sydney itself.
What do you guys think? Personally, I've done so many 3-3.5 hr drives/buses to Sydney airport over the years, a 2.5 hr drive sounds decent for a significantly cheaper cost than flying from Canberra?

Does anyone know of any local bookstores (ideally small businesses, not large chains) that offer book subscriptions (either a single book or book box)?
I know there are larger online services like Bookbox that do curated subscriptions but I like the idea of supporting local businesses.
I suspect this may be something that brick and mortar stores no longer do (e.g. Harry Hartog no longer offer this service)... but you never know!
