Please use this thread to ask all your admissions questions. This can be general questions about certain majors, admissions advice, questions about Durham and the campus, etc.

Anyone have experience in the classes above? I’m thinking of taking them next semester but wondering if the workload would be too much.

Hi all,
I am an incoming graduate (MS Mech E) student looking for housing. I have been accepted for the spring 2027 semester and would love pointers on where to look for housing. I will have a car so I am fine with looking off-campus at a reasonable distance away. Additionally, where I can connect with students looking for roommates?
Any information is greatly appreciated!
Feel free to DM me with questions or information!

Hi, I'm planning my sophomore spring courses with the current goal doing the Duke in Madrid Study Abroad program during my junior fall.
For Junior Fall in Madrid equivalent classes, everything is tentative:
Which would then lead to Junior Spring:
If Duke in Madrid doesn't work out I'd just take the classes as I would normally, at Duke.
My main concern is ECE 331L & ECE 350L, since I've heard they can be pretty time-consuming.
I've also seen some crazy reviews on RMP with Pastorino, but I don't know if it's legit....he teaches for spring semester and 350 is a prereq for some of courses I really want to take. DukeHub says ECE350L is Spring only??? Where's Peter Bletsch??
How manageable is this schedule, and how much time should I expect to spend on labs/homework outside of class? Am I punching above my weight?
Course Schedule included:

I really appreciate any input!

I plan on having someone over for a weekend sometime in the future, and I was wondering what parking options would be available for them since they would be driving here? Is parking at one of the on campus garages overnight allowed for visitors? (we do recognize that it is $2/hr)

Is one better? More interesting? Are they similar in difficulty?

Hi everyone. I am a BME major deciding on which to take for next semester. BME 290 does fit better for my schedule but I hear it is a lot more difficult compared to ECE 110. For context I know Dr. Palmeri teaches 290 in the spring and the ECE proffs are Stacy Tantum, Genevieve Lipp, David Smith, and Lisa Huettel. For ECE the only professor that works for my schedule is Stacy Tantum but I can move stuff around to accommodate other proffs. Any advice on proffs, class structure, and which one is easier would be appreciated.
Thank you!

Hey everyone!
I’m new to Duke and looking to meet some people and play volleyball. Nothing super competitive, just a fun group that plays regularly either on campus or somewhere nearby.
I’m open to indoor, outdoor, sand volleyball and would love to join pickup games, or any casual groups that welcome new players. Mainly just hoping to stay active, make some friends, and have a good time. I played a little bit in high school and casually in undergrad, and I’m hoping to play when I have the time.
If you know of any groups, GroupMe chats, or regular pickup games, I’d really appreciate it!
Thanks! 🏐😊

It's interchangeable for a PubPol major. Anyone have any insight to how difficult each of the courses are? Thanks

Anyone take both courses (or at least one) and what is your opinion on what course to take first? Thanks

Is anyone currently taking this class (fall ‘26) and, if so, what are your thoughts about the professors and the workload?

I'm really stumped on what to choose as my 4th class for this upcoming spring semester. For context, I am leaning towards the Data Science path for CS, but unsure if I'll do an IDM or just a Data Science concentration. I also want to do research this summer probably geared towards data science if thats any help. In terms of CS I am already taking CS201.
So far I've chosen to take:
Any recommendations on what to put as the 4th? Should I even choose a CS related class and go for some of the Trinity requirements instead?

I've never taken an AP CS class in high school because it wasn't offered, but I have done some coding for science fair and school. I've never touched java but I've used python and dart. I heard the prereqs for cs201 are not enforced and that other students without coding experience did not struggle too much with the class.
My only worry is whether or not my dean will get mad if I take 201 without the prereqs. If I do transfer to Pratt, I will have to talk to her again. Is this a big issue?

does dukehub ever change from "departmental staff" to the actual teachers?

Hi! I'm a freshman hoping to double major in econ and pub pol. I was looking to take both econ101 and 104D next semester, how is econ 104D with Pr. Andrew Patton? His Rate My Professor ratings are genuinely scaring me... Should I just take STA 230 instead (not sure who's teaching for Spring sem..)?

Does anyone has a screenshot of who were the professors for each session of DFQ (Math 353) next semester? Their names were there on Monday, but now it just says departamental staff. Thank you

Hello everyone! I’m a junior girl who’s looking for a date and tired of the apps. :) Feel free to clown me in the comments but a girls gotta try!!!!
Why you should date me:
- Im 5’3” and never wear heels so you’ll always be taller than me
- I have a high GPA and will be interning as a management consultant this summer so I’m pretty ambitious and able to relocate post grad
- I love drawing so you’ll get handmade notes/cards on ur bday and valentines
- Similar vein with fashion design, ur gonna have the most fire cosplay for Halloween
- I text back super fast
- I find the entertainment in everyday occurrences and can turn anything into a very roundabout but entertaining monologue
- I volunteer a lot so we can volunteer together :)
What I’m looking for
- I’m a devout Hindu who doesn’t do any substances or eat meat. I’m interested in meeting someone that also follows a dharmic faith and wants a monogamous long term relationship
- I also want someone with ambitious life goals (see above!!)
- I also want someone w cool hobbies
- I’m 20 so pls be 19-22 years old
I’m probably gonna delete this if I get self conscious.🙈🙈 so yeah XD dm me I guess
I am a freshman in Pratt trying to decide what writing 120 to take. I would love suggestions for either ones that were super interesting with cool professors or ones that were super easy. Thanks!

Hi! Junior looking to take CS 330 next semester, but it's taught by Debmalya Panigrahi & Siqi Liu. Seems like it's Liu's first time teaching 330, and I'm a little scared by Panigrahi's RMP. Anyone who took it with Panigrahi have any perspective to offer?

Dear President Price,
I am writing to express strong concern regarding the recent on-field incident involving Kimari Robinson aggressively swatting at a member of Duke’s medical staff.
You could clearly see the fear in this staff member's eyes as she tried to treat an injured player. Behavior like this toward a healthcare worker in an ER would lead to an arrest, yet here it happened on national television. Furthermore, additional video shows Mr. Robinson in a similar physical confrontation with field staff during the Georgia Tech game, establishing a clear pattern of behavior that must be stopped before it goes further.
Dismissing this behavior—as Coach Manny Diaz's comments did on Monday—only compounds the disrespect shown to this staff member. The Duke University School of Medicine Code of Professional Conduct mandates "concern for the welfare of others, respect for the rights of others, and zero tolerance for disrespectful behavior." Sideline medical personnel deserve that exact same standard of protection and respect while doing their jobs.
University leadership must step in with meaningful, transparent accountability.
