No AI Animation Allowed.

We have one rule posted, and that is "No AI Animation". Meaning anything created with AI generative tools is against the rules to post here.

  • "What if I want to learn how to AI animate?": The practice of learning animation and "learning" how to AI animate are completely different and have no bearing on each other. They simply are not the same discipline.
  • "What if I want to discuss AI's effect on the animation industry?": This is welcome sporadically. We aren't advertising new methods and techniques for AI, but if an animator in good faith is asking for guidance on how to move forward in this AI-saturated world, we will let that sort of discussion happen. We are the final judgement call on whether or not a discussion is done in "good faith". We may not always get it right, but it's hardly a rare topic to find open discussion on. There's plenty of places you can go to discuss it freely.
  • "I use AI as a tool to assist me in creating animations by hand. Am I allowed to post?": This subreddit isn't focused on just the end product. There is a beauty in the journey that we value here. If you use AI to assist your process, do not post it here.
  • "AI is here to stay, and if you don't use it, you'll be left behind. Do you do all your math yourself, or do you use a calculator? EXACTLY!!!": Listen. I can both appreciate some tools for simplifying remedial tasks while also fully understanding that my brain would likely be better off in the long run if I trained it to do math without computer assistance. The same goes for art forms. Or basically anything. Only focusing on the result loses the basic essence of humanity. There will likely be a point where AI will be able to do this all on its own, and a prompter won't even be needed. The artists will still be creating, because it never stopped us before.

Rigby2D update: Public Beta, v0.3.3

• Upvotes

Hey everyone, back with another Rigby2D update!

Since my last post, I've pushed Rigby2D through versions 0.3.0 to 0.3.3. A lot has changed, and the biggest step is that Rigby2D is moving beyond individual character animation into complete scene creation.

Here's what I've been working on:

  • Scene composition: Bring multiple characters, animation clips, dialogue audio, layered backgrounds, parallax and camera movement together in one scene.
  • Timeline editing: Trim and split clips, adjust playback speed, loop animations and crossfade between clips.
  • Automatic lip-sync (viseme): Generate lip-sync from audio using local Whisper transcription, with support for nine mouth shapes.
  • Rendering: Export scenes to PNG sequences, transparent WebM and MP4 with audio.
  • Runtime integration: Play composed scenes through the JavaScript and Rust runtimes, with a dedicated Godot RigbyScene2D node.
  • AI workflows: MCP tools for AI assistants to inspect, validate and edit rigs, animations and scenes.
  • Editor improvements: Better transform guides, draw-order editing, resizable panels, searchable shortcuts, recent projects and improved documentation.

There's also AutoRig, animation retargeting, Python scripting and Spine skeleton import support, including binary .skel files.

I've moved Rigby2D into public beta and am working on the Windows release pipeline and code signing.

To show what the scene workflow looks like in practice, I've put together the NILA promo featuring NILA and Rigbytron.

Rigby2D is open source under MIT. If you're working on 2D games, animation or short films, give it a try and let me know what you think. Feedback is always welcome!

Visual memory as a factor for better animation

Have you guys ever wondering about this factor? I have theories whenever you have better visual memory, you will remember the pacing of the animation better, therefore your animation will become better.

How do you animate on 25fps?

I started working on an animated video about 2 days ago and have had to redo 5 times because I didn't know how to animate on 25fps. I use mooltik on my tablet if that helps.

Hi everyone!

I'm sharing my 2D rigging practice using DragonBones. I've been working on learning the rigging process and exploring how to bring 2D characters to life through movement.

I'm still learning and improving my skills, so I'd love to hear your feedback and any tips you might have. Thanks for checking out my work!

Animated a caveman fighting a 300lb Scimitar-toothed cat using echolocation. What do you think of the action pacing?

Hi everyone! I’ve rigged these characters in DragonBones with IK, and I’m planning to use them to learn 2D animation. The joint outlines still need some cleanup, but I’d love your feedback! Any tips on improving the rigs or beginner animation exercises would be really appreciated. Thanks! 🙂

First time rigging in DragonBones

Hey everyone! This is my very first time rigging a character in DragonBones. I just finished setting up the armature and bone hierarchy for this witch character.

Since it's my first rig, I wanted to share it here to get some feedback or catch any mistakes with the bone placement before I move on to the next step. Once I finalize everything, I'm planning to bring her to life and turn this into a full animation!
