Real-time bandwidth visualization in our server room powered by WLED

I'm so sorry, i hadn't muted the video before

I completely renovated our server room and upgraded the lighting to make it a bit more functional using WLED and our monitoring system.

The lighting visualizes real-time network bandwidth usage with flowing light waves and infrastructure alerts through color changes.

You can find more details over at r/WLED and r/cableporn.

I really appreciate all your feedback!

I did not find what I needed in the official app of the LED lamp producer, so I had to develop one

I bought a LED lamp SSG-500 with MELK-OA10 controller. Turned out the controller limits the lamp to the 213 predefined lighting regimes. Sounds like a lot but in fact most of them are bs 🥲

I would be able to live with the limited collection of modes but particularly one thing about it triggered me — there were dozens of multicolor dynamic modes but no static ones (HOW a producer hasn't thought about it?). So I built my own app with extra functionality that I did not found anywhere else.

Problem: there is no lighting regime with static multiple colors at the same time (you can either choose one static color for the whole lamp, or multiple colors but flowing, blinking and running through the lamp).

Firstly I thought "well, maybe I did not find them" — but I checked many apps and then cross-checked through different AIs. And there are literally no apps out there allowing to choose colors of the static lights or modify regimes anyhow. Every dev just copy pasted previous solution which is limited to 213 modes from the controller developer.

That's understandable because that's how the controller is built. Not much can be done from the software standpoint. But I found somewhat acceptable solution.

Solution: with ChatGPT I found a way to pause existing dynamic regimes and even create presets through a replay.

So with this app you can:

- pause any dynamic regime at any point — that gives a static light with different colors combinations (tho only from the predefined dynamic ones)
- save that paused regime moment as a preset — that allows not to try catching that exact moment you liked — it automatically turns on that moment for you from the preset.

Hope it saves you some nerve cells and a couple hours of your life.

12v LED strip voltage drop and dimmer towards the end

Hi guys,

I'm planning on making acrylic neon-style signs using around 5–7 metres of 12V LED strips per sign.

I've been testing a 5m 12v 120 LEDs/m strip with a 12V 5A power supply and noticed the LEDs get significantly dimmer towards the end.

These are my measurements:

-11.9V at the beginning

-8V at the end

-4.8A total current draw

I've tried another similar strip and had pretty much the same results.

I'm fairly new to this side of things, so I'm not sure whether this is normal for a 5m strip, whether the strips I've bought are just poor quality, or if I'm doing something wrong.

Do people making LED neon signs normally inject power at different points along the strip? If so, how often would you recommend doing it for a 5–7m sign?

Also, would buying better-quality LED strips help with the voltage drop, or is this something that happens regardless?

Ideally I would like to avoid having to run any extra wires as I am trying to keep this clean as possible and I also enjoy the small factor of a 5a power supply.

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!
