Luloff reelected
This is legitimately surprising to me, I don't understand why he'd win again.

I moved back home to Napanee after living in Ottawa and I had to do a double take when I saw this….
I was driving to work this morning through Napanee and saw this parked at No Frills. OC Transpo continues to haunt me 😆

Vote today against RTO! Revisiting the City of Ottawa Return to Office Mandate from 2025.
Good morning folks,
I trust you have been enjoying all the traffic brought to you by Mark Sutcliffe and RTO mandated nonsense. Well today is the last chance you get to choose your own destiny.
Jeff Leiper has promised to revoke the City of Ottawa RTO mandate, which will remove thousands of vehicles from the commute. Additionally, he has said he would apply pressure to the Federal Gov't to revoke the equally poorly research supported RTO mandate.
For clarity, the Mayor of the City of Ottawa cannot dictate federal policy - BUT - there has been a steady pressure game played by Sutcliffe to mandate workers back downtown to "save businesses" that simply did not pivot during the YEARS of Covid.
So please - GO OUT AND VOTE! 44% participation in 2022 is what lead to this Sutcliffe induced chaos. It only takes a few minutes, and the election workers are amazing! A few minutes can set the course for the City for the next 4 years.
To guide you in your choice at the Poll, please see the below chart on how City of Ottawa councillors voted in the 2025 City of Ottawa RTO Mandate.
Jeff Leiper put forward a motion attempting to remove the Delegate Authority for the City Manager to mandate a return to work 5 days a week. At the last minute before the votes were called, Councillor Curry, supported by Mayor Sutcliffe, put forward a replacement motion emphasizing support for the City Manager to make the RTO5 decision.
After watching Council discussions, the last minute substitution motion, and the final vote, it was clear some councillors were duped by the promise of "flexibility". According to people who are working for the City, the promised 'flexibility' is a myth. Where there is space for RTO5, employees are needlessly in the office 5 days a week.
More cars on the road. More needless congestion for people whose jobs cannot be done remotely. As candidates are trying to secure another 4 year position in City Hall, now is the time to get involved. Public pressure works. Motivated constituents can affect public policy.
Either way, please vote - it is quick and easy. You don't need your voter card, just your ID.

Election Results Coverage
Does anyone know if CTV/CBC or any news site has election results video or is it just the online poll trackers with no analysis?
Thanks!

Cat found on Corkstown
Showed up at work early this morning at the LRT railyard on Corkstown this morning and found a small female grey tabby under the work truck.
There are no houses nearby so unsure if she came from a home or is just very lost.
She's quite skinny (ran to corner store for some cat food) but very friendly. Friendly enough to hop into my warm, dry car and has been there since.
Called and left a VM with the Humane Society to see if we could possibly get checked for a microchip.
I am unable to take her home (I would love to) as I have a dog that would eat her.
Any suggestions? Appreciate it!

9 sitting councilors and the mayor had significant donations from real estate developers in 2022. ( Greater than 10%)
On election day, consider who is influencing and contributing to your councilors and mayoral candidates' campaign funds. Is it regular citizens or real estate developers?

Municipal Affairs Any one else gotten no engagement this election
I haven’t had anyone knock on my door or even leave a door hanger this election, honestly feels like my neighbourhood has been forgotten. Probably doesn’t help that my council was acclaimed but haven’t received anything from any mayoral candidates.

What is with the smell at Walmart on Baseline?
There is a seemingly permanent rotten diarrhea smell in, ironically, the cleaning supplies aisle and the aisles on either side. It smells SO bad, like if you forgot a dirty diaper full of sh** in the back of your car or something. The first few times we noticed it we assumed we were downwind of someone who had it in their pants, but it's been months now and we've smelled it way too many times for it to be a person. Is someone cooking meth in the ceiling or something? Flinging poop behind the shelves? I need to know!

No coverage of civic election results on broadcast TV?
What the hell? The Voice on CTV, CTV2 has Monday Night Football. CBC is showing Murdoch Mysteries. No election results show on any local channel. Had to go on the Internet.
I thought nights like tonight meant that local channels had to show election results as a public service -- part of their responsibility for the privilege of airing on the public airwaves.
How can CBC Ottawa, taxpayer funded CBC Ottawa, be showing Murdoch Mysteries instead of election results?
No sense of civic responsibility anywhere. Among the broadcasters and among the general public. I'm sure people would be complaining to high heaven if they couldn't watch Monday Night Football. Just a sad statement on the current state of the body politic.

Municipal Affairs Is it just me or did some wards have brutally negative campaigns?
Been following some wards and some of the stuff I've seen is just brutally negative. I haven't seen such level of negativity ever. I'll give some examples:
Ward 9, Knoxdale–Merivale: Man what the fuck is happening here. Sean Devine has always struck me as one of the calmest candidates out there and a steady incumbent but the negative campaigning by Anna Ielo-Tal has even rattled him. Some of his recent posts show that the negativity and falsehoods being spread are really weighing in on him. It seems like a lot of insider councilors are out to swipe at him too.
Ward 1 Orléans East-Cumberland: There's this one guy Mazhar Choudry that has just been slinging shit the whole time at every other candidate. I don't even know if he's serious or not. He also won't answer any questions about whether he actually lives in Ward 1.

Hwy 174 mess
Who is responsible for maintaining the shoulders closest to the new LRT line on the 174? What a mess. Debris. Ratchet straps, Red tarp (?) east bound just past Montreal road thats been there for going on 2 months. Yellow construction helmet. Road kill (there was a cat and 2 raccoons which are gone probabaly due to scavengers). Plants / weeds.
Is it the city or the LRT Contractors?
Should be really interesting once the snow starts.

Best fried Chinese noodles in Ottawa?
I'm 8 weeks pregnant and struggling to eat aside from random extreme cravings.
Where can I find the best mostly plain fried noodles in Ottawa? Chow mein or whatever is fine. I just want a giant dish of noodles. Veggies on top is fine, as is meat, but it's all about the noodles right now.
Please help 😭😭😭
Edit: located in Kanata
Second edit: also names of exact dishes would be super appreciated!

Municipal Affairs Voting today? Leiper has a better platform than sutcliffe? Help me decide.
Hello!! I was born and raised here but moved away in the middle of the millennium.
Now that I’m freshly back in town and about to vote today, I’m leaning towards Jeff Leiper as he represents my area and I’ve read up on his platform which I think the city needs.
Sutcliffe I think has made the city worse.
Friendly and pointed debate please.
To add for context I am a woman with disabilities that has experienced homelessness in Ottawa the past year and has had horrible experiences using the public transit. Both need to have major changes asap.
Thanks!!
UPDATE:
I voted today in the Ottawa municipal elections, and I have a serious concern about accessible voting.
As a DeafBlind person with low vision, I was pleased to see that large-print ballots were available. However, when I brought my completed ballot to the electronic scanner, I was told the machine could not accept it. I was forced to redo my ballot on a regular-print sheet with smaller text.
The irony is hard to ignore: What is the point of providing accessible ballots if the voting equipment cannot accept them?
Accessibility must be built into the entire voting process, not just one part of it. People with low vision should not have to sacrifice their ability to read their ballot comfortably because the equipment cannot accommodate an accessible format.
There needs to be accountability, and voters with disabilities deserve answers. Accessible voting means being able to complete the entire process independently, with dignity, and without being forced to revert to an inaccessible format.
Accessibility cannot stop at the ballot. It must extend all the way to the ballot scanner.
To add - I did have a CNIB intervenor with me and she assisted me with the second ballot. I wanted to do the original large print ballot by myself dammit. With that accessibility blunder, my autonomy was taken from me.
So disappointing.
Btw I voted for Jeff Leiper.
Thank you all for pitching in your views, stories and whatnot :)

Contractor to avoid
PSA to avoid Monaco Construction. They canvas neighbourhoods with flyers to solicit business (red flag) and offer pretty competitive prices. They are a terrible company to deal with. The communication is horrendous, and there are constant delays, excuses, and lies. If you get a flyer, please trash it.

Municipal Affairs Fisher Ave between Inverness and Viewmount.
So, it's voting day. The church on the corner of Fisher and Inverness is a voting station. The church on the corner of Viewmount and Fisher is a food bank. I had to visit both today. 2 separate city of Ottawa crews working on both sides of Fisher have signs up on both sides of the road, pedestrians use other sidewalk. Got yelled at by one crew for not using the other sidewalk. So I snapped right back maybe they shouldn't have signs on both sides. Basically they wrote "see other side" on both sides of a piece of paper. His response. Oh that's a different crew, we have no idea what they are doing but I'll get it taken care of. To his credit, he drove to the other crew and told them to take down their signs that were apparently unneeded.
Typical of Ottawa, absolutely zero communication between teams. Come on Ottawa, it's not that hard to use common sense and communicate with each other.
