Politics Hey NC - Raleigh, NC - Did you know that these amendments will show up on your ballot? Make sure to do your research, as they are not what they seem. Scroll through the images and check out the body of this post for more information.

The images above were taken from the slide deck of a presentation put on by Down Home NC, which has an extensive summary here, and you can sign the pledge to vote no here.

Don't let the wording fool you. These amendments aren't about you, they are about corporations (think Duke Energy, Data Centers, and outside corporate interests) and the 1%, and we don't need amendments to pass the same exact laws. As I stated in the title, once amendments are passed, they are extremely difficult to undo, whereas normal legislation can be changed as the need arises.

"If passed, these ballot measures would drastically reduce state and local government funds, which could cause layoffs of educators, firefighters, emergency services, and other public workers — especially when combined with huge federal budget cuts coming down from Congress. It could mean the end of food stamps and affordable healthcare programs – which could in turn shut down hospitals and grocery stores and further impact NC farmers."
- Down Home NC

What is more, the NC income tax rate is already scheduled to fall below 3.5% in 2027, and still more by 2036 (image 5). As such, the income tax amendment will not affect you in the foreseeable future, but it will eliminate the possibility of corporations ever paying more than 3.5%, and any new legislation that tried to move the corporate tax rate above 3.5% would be unconstitutional.

At the same time, the other amendment seeks to cap property tax increases by local governments, but the wording is vague at best and doesn't say what it actually means to do, allowing for any number of interpretations they could argue as "constitutional" once passed. Regardless, taken in tandem with the income tax amendment, the mere nature of the other amendment would be to squeeze local communities of funds. When taxes levied by the state are reduced, the burden falls to localities. When taxes levied by localities are reduced, the burden falls on YOUR community. Think higher sales tax, fines, fees, parking, etc. and hits to local infrastructure - schools, roads, buildings, sidewalks, parks and recreation, libraries, Medicaid AND SNAP, etc.

In wrapping up, I'll reiterate once more that lawmakers do not need amendments to the NC State Constitution to achieve any what the amendments would achieve. Laws could just as easily passed - laws that could be revisited and adjusted over time in efforts toward a fairer tax code. Again, they are trying to rob the middle and lower class for the benefit of the wealthy and corporations, and lock that structure in for decades.

Don't fall for it!! VOTE NO on both tax amendments, and while you are at it, vote no on the Voter ID amendment. In case you haven't noticed, NC already requires Voter ID in order to vote.

Local News White Tesla, Duraleigh rd intersection by Sharkeys and Circle K, 7:30-8AM

I'm gonna get a Dashcam and call non-emergency number but now 3 mornings at the same time right at that intersection, a white tesla barrels past fully in the other side of the road going 100MPH bobbing and weaving(at least fast enough to shake the line of cars) and today it was right next to me and I was fucking terrified, it could have killed me. This idiots going to wreck I just hope he misses the innocent bystanders.

Local News Scam caller alert - claiming to be Cumberland county police

Just sharing FYI with the community here. Yesterday both my spouse and I received scam calls about an hour and a half apart. They were from a young man with a North Carolina accent and a 910 area code. I really do think he's local to the area. He claimed to be from the Cumberland county sheriff's department and said that we had missed court dates for jury duty and had failure to appear and contempt of court citations against us.

He gave the fictitious name David Richards, the fictitious badge number 409, and his phone number is 910-759-6021. I made a report to the real Cumberland county sheriff's office, and they told me they had received four other calls about the same guy today.

The reason I'm making a post about it instead of just moving on is that this guy was very convincing if someone doesn't know how the court system works. He said a lot of things and shared a lot of details that don't make sense if you know how jury duty works and how citations work. But if you don't know how those things work, then his way of talking, his Carolina accent, and his upfront professionalism seemed extremely realistic. I could definitely see people getting pulled in by his scam.

I had already knew it was a scam before he made the second call yesterday afternoon and I called him out on it, and he told me to eat a dick and die, so not a bot or anything like that.

Stay safe y'all. Scammers be scamming.

In todays random post, anyone know the history behind this wall? It’s something I have noticed over the years and was always curious about; I especially love “All Raleigh Pigs”, but who am I?! Was the wall built post build of the complex? Neighbors coming together to make their mark known?

RIP CROWLEYS

Question/Recommendation House Cleaner Recommendations? (N. Raleigh/Wake Forest area)

• Upvotes

I'm looking for a one-time house cleaner to come at some point within the next week or so. The house is just under 2,000 sq ft, 3 beds, 2.5 baths...anyone you would recommend?

I've reached out to Cura Maids, Best Clean Ever, and Eco Maids for quotes. If you have experience with any of these, or would recommend others, please share!

So far, I'm seeing most of the one-time cleanings come in around $200-$250 with some introductory offers...

Out-n-About What’s the etiquette in Raleigh on putting bagged dog poop in someone else’s trashcan?

Post image
309 Upvotes

My neighbor left this in the alley behind our houses. Apparently, people walking their dogs have been putting bags of poop in his trash can, and he’s clearly not happy about it.

People put it in mine too, and honestly, I don’t care—as long as it’s bagged and goes in the regular trash, not the recycling or yard waste cans.

I’ve never put any in his cans, but I have used other trash cans around the neighborhood while walking my dog and never really thought anything about it. I usually just clean it up and if there’s a trashcan by the street, I’ll throw it in it.

Now I’m wondering if I’ve been that neighbor without realizing it.
What do y’all think? Is it OK to put a tied bag in someone’s trash can along the alley, or should you always carry it home?

Question/Recommendation Raleigh wool clothes

Hey y’all! I have a friend who is planning a Europe trip this winter and is in need of some wool clothes. They will be traveling/hitch hiking on foot and I just want to make sure they are kept warm. He doesn’t have a ton of money to spend on clothes right now but I’ll help if I can. Just wanted to know if anyone knows where we can maybe get some on consignment or thrift or maybe have gloves, socks etc they’re willing to donate. Thanks in advance!

I’d also appreciate any advice from anyone who has done a trip like this. I’m very worried about them traveling throughout the winter with basically little to no money

Question/Recommendation Searching for a Raleigh hairstylist/barber

I have shoulder length wavy/curly hair and I’m searching for someone who can cut and layer it. I have had a lot of bad haircuts in my time and I’m really trying to avoid that. I found that Barbers are typically pretty good at short hair, but not long hair. Does anyone have a recommendation hopefully someone that I can talk to about it ahead of time. I live in downtown Raleigh so I can travel to most any part of Raleigh.

Question/Recommendation Choosing a magnet elementary school for 27-28 school year

• Upvotes

So far we’ve toured Poe Magnet Elementary School and Hodge Road Magnet Elementary School. Looking for feedback on both schools. And any other school recommendations to consider. We're thinking Poe is our top choice for the magnet lottery. Our child will be a rising Kindergartener.

Question/Recommendation Need help for a dog

We have this dog that we rescued after he was left by our old neighbors. We've been trying to find a home for him but have come up empty. We've tried everything. Online, rescues, pounds friends and family and nothing. We're not allowed to have 2 dogs cause our lease forbids it. Hes also very energetic, too much for us to handle and our other dog dosent get along well with him. We dont know exatcly how old he is but the vet said hes less than a year old. Hes a pitbull husky mix

Where can I send this dog or who can I ask for help? cause im all out of ideas
