[Washington Capitals] “I just have a big dumb smile on my face just thinking about playing against those guys. Love them to death and miss them, but really happy where I am right now.” Alex Tuch on facing his former club for the first time tomorrow night.

  • So that first line didn't work. Hoping it's a chemistry thing.
  • 3rd line DID work. Missed the first period, but glad Doan could get one in and McLeod got the helper! They need the spark
  • Kind of turnover hell of a game, they looked more composed as the game went on but not nearly enough o-zone time in back half of the game.
  • LOVED That UPL save sequence in the 3rd. Type shit we need from him as much as we can get. Great game from him
  • Frustrating game for Gilbert and Crevier. They play with a lot of heart and a lot of aggression, but they make some sloppy mistakes
  • Honestly, we looked very outclassed. Caps played better for much longer stretches.
  • Special teams had marginal improvements today. Huge kill in the 3rd
  • Tuch had the narrative on his side. Glad we stole a point when we shouldn't have

[Kris Baker] Daxon Rudolph lit the red light for the second time this season as Denver got past Boston College 5-2. This was one of nine total shot attempts last night for Rudolph.

What’s wrong with Patrick Laine?

I personally think he would fit well on the team but I’m not educated enough to know about why he wouldn’t be a good fit for Buffalo.

[Kris Baker] Ilia Morozov made it three games in a row with a goal as he connected on the PK Friday to help Miami to a 5-1 victory over Alaska-Anchorage. Morozov is the early Cy Young leader with a line of 5-0-5 through five games.

The Strange Signings of Nearly All of Our Young Core For Inflated $ and Long Term.

I find it incredibly odd that weve basically signed all our young players to long term contracts despite most of them having just 1 good season. It's mind boggling to think that a true star like Tuch wasn't worth ~10M yet guys like Doan (7M) and Benson (7.5) are somehow deemed 'values'.

Here's whar these all stars have contributed through 11 games...

Benson. 7.5M x 6. 0 goals.

Doan. 7M x 6. 2 goals.

McCloud. 5M x 4. 1 goal

Krebs. 4.5M x 4. 0 goals.

Norris (via trade). 8M x 4. 2 goala. Not to mention how brutal that move was. A player who averages 50ish games a seaaon. And has 16 goala in 58 games across injury plagued seasons. Meanwhile Cozens potted 28 last year.

What's worse, essentially the only 'young core' player they didnt extend is Quinn. And now they dont even have the money to pay him the $8M+ he'll command.

That's $28M of long term cap space for 5 players that have combined for just 5 goals. To put thst perspective, that's almost $6M per goal.

And it doesnt stop even on defense. Crevier instantly extended at 4M x 4. 1.point and ~14 minutes TOI.

These 'buy now' contracts just scream Terrence to me. It's literally straight up gambling because their sample size is so low, but Terry doesn't want to risk another Tuch situation. Except he's going to have one anyway thanks to them somehow not including Quinn in this contract spending spree.

This truly has to be the worst run franchise from top to bottom in the NHL. Horrible cap management. Horrible trades and asset management. Brutal drafting. .

Imagine valuing Colton 'WaiverWire' Ellis over the 24 year old Levi that was a major part of the Reinhart trade. You know your 2 starters choked when it mattered last year, yet somehow you decide trading your top goalie prospect for peanuts makes sense. And outside of 2 poor showings he's looked great in EDM. Imagine what another 2 to 3 years will do for his deveopment..

My personal favorite though has to be our hapless GM panicking after losing Parayko and then getting royally fleeced by the Jets. Rosen (14th pick in 2021), Bryson and a 2nd plus a 4th for 2 absolute losers on D.

Schenn rode the pine, playing a whopping 2 of 13 playoff games. Stanley the human Pylon wasnt much better, being a healthy scratch and only playing 13 minutes when he dressed.

across 2.5 seasons...for an average of over $1M.per goal.

The brutal trade for Norris. 8M x 4. 2 goals.

But...we won't pay Tuch 10M.

These 'buy now' deals on all these younger players just screams Terence to me. Theres just absolutely no logical sense to handing out long term deals to you guys who had 1 decent season.

So now theyre stuck. 0 cap space. Minimal trade value for any of these players.

The best part. The only younger player with a good season they didnt extend is Quinn. Who has 6 goals and is in the final year of his rookie contract. He's going to command at minimum $8M...which we dont have.

That's weird that Jarmo was not all in for an elite goalie. It was an extremely rare opportunity to get one.

Maybe this will help the players speculated in the rumors to play better, cause it’s obviously draining to not know what’s happening when you are involved.

Also anyone upset with Jarmo, I think the package we offered especially at the draft was better than the one they got. I think Jets were adamant on Quinn and for good reason we said no. In the end, I think Jets wanted more from us, then they ended up getting from the Devils.

Edit: Also for the love of god, if you boo UPL because of this, you are scum. Doesn’t help anyone

With it looking like Helle to NJ, the team just has to be better than it's been overall (and UPL has to be consistent)

Hellebuyck is going to NJ, it seems. wow! (according to Friedman)
