To spare the sub from becoming 99% unsubstantiated rumors and hypothetical trades again, the Speculation Slop Megathread has been reinstated.
The facts, as we know them:
Quintin Jerome Hughes, traded to the Minnesota Wild on December 12th of 2025, has a contract that goes through the end of the 2026-2027 season, and will become a UFA if not extended. The Wild have been in talks with Hughes, and Hughes has not outright said he will not extend, but has also not signed his extension. With the new CBA rules, Quinn is eligible to sign a 7 year extension with the Wild or a 6 year extension with any other team. If he signs this year, his maximum cap hit could be $20.8 million, and if he signs in the summer, that number increases to $22.7 million. The team states that they have no indication that Hughes will not sign, and Hughes has not stated any intention to leave.
Dylan Larkin has requested a trade from the Detroit Redwings. He presented a limited trade list to the team, which was stated to include the Minnesota Wild. The former Red Wings GM, Steve Yzerman, refused to trade him, including turning down a direct offer from Bill Guerin. Yzerman has since been fired, and interim GM Shawn Horcroff has requested an additional list of teams from Larkin, which have been reportedly expanded to 10 teams, still including the Wild.
HAS QUINN SIGNED YET? NO.
HAS THERE BEEN A BIG TRADE? NO.

This probably doesn't seem like a big deal, except he did it in his 520th career game. The only player ahead of him on the list with less than 833 games played is Bobby Orr.

VANCOUVER — The boos were loud — and consistent — every time Quinn Hughes touched the puck Sunday night.
It was to be expected, with the former Canucks captain returning to Rogers Arena for the first time since last year’s mid-December blockbuster trade to Minnesota. They booed him during warmups, during the national anthem and anytime his face popped up on the JumboTron. They changed the name on their signed Hughes jerseys into “QUITT HUGHES” and “SELLOUT” or “SECOND WORST CAPTAIN IN CANUCKS HISTORY.”
But give Canucks credit, they still did appreciate the legacy of the best defenseman to wear their sweater. There were some cheers among the jeers during the video tribute, and he noticed.
“Just the passionate fan base is what makes it special to play here,” Hughes said after the Wild’s 4-2 win over Vancouver. “To see I got some cheers, that was cool for me.”
Hughes brought fans out of the seats one more time here — including fittingly tallying his 500th career point on what turned into the game-winning goal. He seemed unfazed, unemotional, undeterred.
We probably can’t say the same for Wild fans after the Canucks faithful saved their biggest dig, their sharpest dagger, for them.
“HE’S NOT SIGNING!”

Quinn Hughes got the last laugh in his much-anticipated return to Rogers Arena.
Hughes, the former Vancouver Canucks captain, was booed every time he touched the puck. There were loud chants like “QUINN HUGHES SUCKS!” and “Quitter!” But Hughes scored the game-winning goal and picked up his 500th career point in the Minnesota Wild’s 4-2 victory over Vancouver.
Hughes didn’t know what to expect in coming back, and the reaction by Canucks fans was much more measured than the vitriol Brady Tkachuk received in his return to Ottawa last week. Fans even stayed quiet, and had some cheers, during most of the video tribute. (For more color and videos from the atmosphere, go to our Wild blog.)
The Canucks have lost 10 straight games. The Wild are 2-1-1 on the five-game trip, which ends Tuesday in Utah.

I was wondering where the discrepancy of Boldy's shot numbers and goals stems from.
Boldy currently sits at the top of the league in shots, but only scored 5 goals. He also seems to miss like every other shot. However, a few things stand out:
Boldy is shooting at 8.5% and has 8.2xG. He also seems to miss a lot from the right side of the slot, and the high-danger area combines for -2.3xG. At some point he will regress towards the mean and start cashing in on his opportunity.

Minus big sexy, all the short players unionised today to have a great game, and as expected, quinn was the best player against his former team.

Funny story on how I came to like the wild. When I was a kid, I always loved the color green. So when it was time to choose my NHL team, so 6 year old me wanted to choose the one which had the most green. So it was between the Stars (I still regret the fact that I even thought about supporting them, and since have developed a strong sense of hate for them.) and the Wild. The Wild won since they have more green on their logos and jersey.
So how did you guys come to like your team?
