others Naiiyak na ako sa thesis ko

Habang tumatagal parang mababaliw ako sa thesis ko

Supposed to be yung scope namin as CS students is parang pang Master's o PhD na (personal observation no citation), pero we're just undergrads walang man lang consideration yung instructors namin yung doctoral thesis nila same scope na ni require sa degree namin

Palibhasa solo ito... solobongin na ako ni lord haha

dedma sa final defense baka magbreakdown ako sa opening prayer palang hahahaha

general question May scientists ba talaga sa sub na to?

Wala naman imik mga scientists dito eh. Kailan ba tayo last nakakita na nagpost ng kanilang ongoing projects, conference presentations, and/or recent publications? Mag-share naman kayo diyan.

Puro boards, jobs, at thesis queries ang mga active posters.

Gawin na lang sana tong r/studentsPH.

general advice/help/tips Upskilling for a BSABE (AB Process Engineering major) graduate

Hello! I am a fresh graduate with a BS in Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering major in AB Process Engineering. Due to a documentary delay, I wasn't able to apply for this year's licensure exam (ABELE), so I am using this time to enter the job market and focus on upskilling.

My target career path is in R&D or chemical laboratory research, specifically centered on agricultural waste valorization, bioproduct extraction, or post-harvest processing. I also have research experience in nanotechnology from my undergraduate thesis and OJT.

For those working in these fields: what technical skills, industry certifications, or software tools should I prioritize to build a competitive edge for entry-level roles?

general question PRESSURE COOKER (without pressure gauge) as AUTOCLAVE

- Ano ang important precautions based on your experience?
- Balak din po naming mag-sterility check using uninoculated agar plates and broth. May other pa po ba kayong marerecommend for sterility checking?

Thank you po

general advice/help/tips Quit or Not

Hi! I'm a BS Biology graduate with an MS degree and 5 years of work experience, currently working as a researcher in a private institution earning around SG 13.

The work environment isn't toxic, but I find my job unfulfilling. There's no clear direction for the institution, and progress is slow because documents often get held up by higher-ups. I also feel like research isn't being prioritized.

I'm considering quitting because I no longer see myself growing here, but I'm scared given how difficult the job market is for Biology graduates in the Philippines.

Every Monday, I feel anxious about whether I should stay or leave. I worry I'll regret staying too long, but I'm also afraid of leaving without finding a better opportunity.

For those who've been in a similar situation, are these valid reasons to leave? Would you stay while applying elsewhere or resign first?

for discussion Looking at the list of research proposals in the Natl Sci & Engg Fair, I really wonder how many of these kids actually understand their project in-depth

So, the National Science and Engineering Fair posted the list of submitted and approved research entries on FB: NSEF 2027 IS... - National Science and Engineering Fair Philippines | Facebook

Hindi ko na pinost lahat kasi there's 59 pages, pero just showing you the titles of the first 3 images from the post. Yung first na napansin ko talaga is, napakaridiculous yung mga topic na naapprove.

Shoutout kay Calayan Educational Foundation Inc. na may projects with microplastic detection using laser scattering, piezoelectric energy harvesters using ocean waves, tapos gagawa sila ng software to interpret what infant cries are meaning.

And it's sad because ang nakikita ko dito is

  1. A lot of these topics are conceptually BS, parang AI generated lang. And for those that seem conceptually fine, most of them cannot be done by high school students in 1-2 years, kasi you'd need undergrad (and even graduate) level subjects to even comprehend what is going on.
  2. There are projects na talagang resource-intense, meaning need ng fancy labs and expensive chemicals. Are these teachers really pushing their students na maglabas ng pera for this event, knowing na si teacher ang makikinabang and hindi si student?
  3. Given the first 2 points, mukhang most of these projects are not really doable time-wise and resource-wise. The HS students may be getting the impression na they can just bullshit their way sa project proposal stage and half-ass the execution. If you think about it, ganito rin ang galawan ng mga engineering projects sa Pilipinas like with the flood control mess and substandard low-cost housing, and always going over budget and past the expected project deadline.

Kayo, what are your thoughts on this research fair?

for discussion Your thoughts on online certificates from prestigious institutions (ex. Harvard) as credentials?

Lately, I am seeing some “professionals” flaunting their certificates from prestigious institutions like Harvard or Stanford as if they formally studied there. They think themselves as alumni of these institutions and even highlight certificates as credential in their Facebook CV. 🤭

general question anyone had an experience a corpo to scientist transition?

hi, i am chemical engineering graduate now working as a corporate slave, it pays but it doesn’t spark joy

i have been thinking on the job i took when i was a student in 2020 where i did literary studies for a research for pharm

i tried for years to apply to companies like unilab, abbot etc, since graduation in 2022 but i couldn’t even get an interview with the hiring manager

now, 3 years into corp i really want to fulfill this part of mine in being a part of something that could help ppl :((

am i too late to start master’s at this age?

general question Anyone here sacrificed a higher paying job for an MS scholarship? Was it worth it?

Thinking about entering MS and applying for a DOST scholarship but medyo mahirap i-let go yung job na meron na ko due to finances. I want to gauge kasi if an academic career would be a more fulfilling career for me than a corporate one. And I have always known I want to take grad studies pero di ko na siya natupad since nasa ibang arena na ako.

I just want to ask if anyone here has similar experience in letting go of their relatively higher paying jobs for an MS scholarship. Worth it ba? Has your MS degree helped you in building a more rewarding career?

Hello, I am a college student and i am interested in the Lept-On-Site kit of CLSU. I already emailed their website and even contacted them on other platforms but there is still no reply, It's been weeks. Now I want to know if there is anyone here that knows how i can acquire this kit.

For context: i am a 4th year college student and i want to integrate this kit in my prototype. I know this product is in the pilot testing phase but on their website, they said that anyone who is interested can email them. I dont really know which Subreddit i should go to, so i tried posting here.

general advice/help/tips Mol Bio/Biotech Career Shifters?

Hey there, scientists of ph! I am a graduate of UPLB's Agricultural Biotechnology program since July, pero hanggang ngayon wala pa ring relevant work. I plan to do graduate studies in UP Diliman or UPLB, but recently I am starting to wonder how the majority of MBB graduates are doing?

Like yes, I've heard success stories. Academia careers, abroad opportunities, med school. But how do the majority fare? Did the others became career shifters kasi the job market is basically non-existent?

Please let me know your current career if you're an MBB grad! I just badly need some stories so that I can decide if I should pursue this field or not :>
