Other UNM HSC was hacked

It's crazy, because I've been hearing about the "Black October" cyber security crisis all month. I was not connected to the VPN, so It didn't happen to me, but supposedly there was a voice over recording. We were told to shut down our computers and disconnect from the network.

Edit: In my own conspiracy thoughts, this AI stuff is getting out of hand. Wouldn't surprise me if it was a manufactured crisis to get more public consent to invest more in AI for "security" .

I do know Cyber security attacks are very real and it saddens me that this is negatively impacting people in a real way. Did not mean to downplay the situation.

Other Is UNM main hacked?

I have a mountain of homework but I genuinely don’t want it on my personal devices or systems.

I work at HSC and yeah there was a voice recording and screens went black after. We were told not to take devices home and use them in anyway for fear it can spread.

Ugh!

Edit: as a student and employee my student unm.edu credentials were overwritten by HSC ones so I have to go through HSC authentication and such to even get into my stuff on main as a main only student. I’m not confident in taking that chance. Do we have any techies who can explain?

Albuquerque/Campus Questions Does anyone remember the yoga teacher named George (woman George) who played Scissor Sisters during class?

I took her classes religiously from around 2010-2013. She opened a yoga studio in a small house around Harvard and Silver in 2012-ish and then moved to Germany with her partner a few years after.

I want to get back into practicing yoga the way she taught us and I’m looking to see if she has online classes/videos, anything.

With the HSC hack and ongoing events, is anyone using Canvas? Really not interested in having something like that hooked up to my personal computer at home, so trying to figure out the best way to proceed with any coursework.

New Student Question Incoming Spring Exchange Student - Questions About Part- Time Jobs and On-Campus Housing

Title: Incoming Spring Exchange Student — Questions About Part-Time Jobs and On-Campus Housing

Hi everyone!

I'll be joining the University of New Mexico as an exchange student for the Spring semester, and I have a couple of questions.

  1. On-campus part-time jobs

Are exchange students on a J-1 visa eligible for on-campus part-time jobs?

How difficult is it to find jobs such as IT support, lab assistance, tutoring, or other student positions?

When should I start applying, and where can I find job listings?

  1. On-campus accommodation

When should I apply for on-campus housing for the Spring semester?

I'd prefer a shared dorm or room with roommates. Which residence halls would you recommend?

Are there any housing options that are particularly convenient for exchange students?

I'd really appreciate any advice or experiences from current students, especially those who came to UNM as exchange students.

Thanks in advance!

Advertisement/Promotion UNM Students: Dental Hygiene Student Looking for Patients

Hi everyone!

I’m a dental hygiene student here at UNM, and I’m currently looking for patients to help me complete my clinical requirements and graduate.

I wanted to reach out to the UNM community in case any students or local residents are looking for a dental cleaning. Our student clinic offers discounted cleanings, so it may be a good option for anyone looking for more affordable dental care.

We accept Delta Dental, Turquoise Care Medicaid, and United Concordia.

Appointments take approximately 2½ hours, and one or two visits may be needed depending on your individual needs. Additional fees may apply if X-rays or a dental exam are needed.

If you’re interested or have questions about what to expect, feel free to send me a message! I’d appreciate the support, and I hope this information can be helpful to someone in the community.
Thank you!

Undergraduate Academics Art history 300 vs 400

I'm a transfer student and my last art history classes were taken many years ago. I need two 400 level classes but I'm wondering if I should take a 300 level to get the hang of things again. Is there much of a difference between 300 and 400 level ARTH classes? I'm considering Medieval Art with Andrews or History of Engraving with Anderson-Riedel.

Hello! I am starting Organic Chemistry in the spring and am very nervous. I was hoping someone could tell me what textbook is used so I can study prior to the start of the semester. Any advice around that class would be helpful as well. Thank you for your time!

Have a picture of my snake as payment.

Hi ABQ! 👋 I'm Luke, a dental student at Touro Dental Health on Ridgecrest. I need patients to complete my graduation requirements, and helping me out gets you some seriously discounted dental care. It's a win-win!
Through our friends & family discount:
🦷 FREE exam, cleaning and x-rays

🦷 50% off fillings, crowns, root canals, dentures and implants

🦷 25% off braces, gum treatment and oral surgery

A licensed faculty dentist checks every step, so you get quality care for way less, and I get one step closer to my degree. Appointments run a bit longer since everything is double-checked. Some services, like sedation and whitening, aren't included.

Message me for a voucher card, or call (505) 658-8236 to book (Spanish-speaking staff available).
📍 2425 Ridgecrest Dr SE, Albuquerque

Even if you don't need a dentist, sharing this would really help me out. Thank you! 🦷

Other notice of alternative resolution meeting

so this morning i got an email from the school saying that the prof for one of my classes reported me to the student accountability center for “repeated disruptive behavior in class.” the email didn’t say what said disruptive behavior was, and my professor basically never talked to me and i am very quiet in class so i thought for a minute it was a mistake until i emailed said prof where she confirmed the meeting was happening but also refused to give details and was strangely distancing herself from it as well as saying she wouldn’t be there. she also said she talked to me about the behavior despite me not having any memory of her ever speaking to me 1/1. notably an hour before the school email, she responded to an email i sent asking about presentations and said i could present next week. the meeting is in two days and it’s honestly stressing me out since i’ve never had one of these before and i am deeply worried about getting suspended or even expelle, especially since i am not sure what this is even about. if i had to guess, it’s because i get up from my seat a lot and briefly leave per my accommodation but even then i don’t know. should i be worried or am i just being paranoid

edit: i also checked both canvas and outlook messages and she has never sent me anything regarding whatever behavior she’s talking about

edit 2:

here’s the original email thread

I hope you are doing well as this fall semester progresses.

I'm reaching out to schedule a meeting with you regarding a report brought to our attention which alleges that you have demonstrated a pattern of disruptive behavior in your (subject name) class. Our understanding is that the instructor has spoken with you previously regarding both support and classroom expectations, but that the steps outlined have not resolved the concerns.

I've scheduled a time for us to meet based on your class schedule. The meeting is set for (date and location) You’ll be meeting with me and also the Student CARE Coordinator.

This meeting is an alternative resolution process. It is intended to provide an opportunity to discuss the reported issues, review relevant information, and explore an appropriate path forward. The goal is to support dialogue, understanding, and resolution without proceeding through a conduct process.

It is required that you attend this meeting. If you choose not to attend, then this incident will be addressed through a conduct process.

If the scheduled meeting time doesn’t work for you, just let me know we’re happy to find another time that fits your availability.

We appreciate your time and willingness to meet. As a reminder, UNM students are expected to respond to official communication from the university, and your participation in this process is important.

Thank you,

Hello,

Are you sure this is the right class/person? My instructor has at no point told me I was being disruptive and I don't talk in class at all.

Thank you,

Hello (name) ,

Thank you very much to connecting back about the meeting we have scheduled. I appreciate your question. Our Thursday meeting will be an opportunity to share in more detail the concerns that were reported, hear your perspectives on what may be happening in the class and together work toward specific steps that will be helpful moving forward.  Sam Lechuga and I look forward to meeting with you.

Many thanks and take care,

Other 🚨Surveillance at UNM🚨

Hey UNM Students!

Did you know that your daily routine is being tracked by your own University Police Department? NUMEROUS cameras of the brand Aviligon litter the campus, watching every student's move.

We are currently awaiting records requests from UNM regarding the surveillance UNM PD has implemented on campus. But this is what we know about Motorola Solutions:

Avigilon is a subsidiary of Motorola Solutions, meaning that these systems, unless stipulated otherwise, feed directly into private and federal pipelines.

Motorola operates Digital Recognition Network (DNR), which takes LPR data, packages it and provides it to insurance providers, repo companies, collection agencies, and lenders.

Motorola also provides data to Thompson Reuters CLEAR, which is a data aggregation platform that pulls together location history, social media activity, property records, license plate scans, and personal records on hundreds of millions of people.

DHS pays 25 million per year to access this database. Some police departments, like Valencia County, also allowed ICE, DEA, Fusion Centers and other Federal entities direct access through the Vehicle Manager platform.

UNM Students...is this what you want? Your daily movements at your place of education to be monitored, collected, packaged, and shared willingly? Demand transparency. Demand privacy. Demand removal.

Housing Question about my Rainforest Lease when withdrawing from my apartment

Hello, for mental health reasons, I will be withdrawing from unm this winter break, as a result of these issues, I can't competently complete my coursework for the semester. I am fully willing to withdraw from all of my classes, but my lease agreement requires 6 credit hours a semester. Will I be able to drop these classes without being evicted before the end of this semester?
