Art work & Photography I finally went to Syria and the country stole a piece of my heart! (USA passport)
After the Assad regime fell, my good friend in Damascus gave me the green light to come visit and I have to say— what a magnificent country!!
We started in Damascus (crossed by land via Jordan), explored the city, including the markets and mosque where we got to meet and watch the six men who sing the call to prayer. What an experience that was!
Visited the devastating Sednaya prison. Maaloula has a church where you can listen to a prayer in Aramaic— the language spoken by Jesus (which only a few speak) and drink blue wine- yes that’s a thing!
We visited Homs, completely shattered during the war, but the resilience of the people and how it’s being rebuilt is inspiring.
We also visited the city of Aleppo— one of the oldest cities and markets in the world, the citadel with jaw-dropping views. Jebeili soap factory— to watch one of the oldest olive oil soap being made.
Idlib, a city very difficult to visit during the Assad regime was fascinating. Spoke to locals who were very welcoming.
The ruins of Palmyra will take your breath away as will the Krak des Chevaliers— a medieval fortress that’s immaculately preserved.
Bosra has a Roman theater that will blow your mind. It’s probably the best preserved (in my opinion) in the world.
Food- insanely good (I’m vegetarian)
People- some of the kindest on the planet.
Culture— speechless, they’ve gone through unimaginable times, yet they’ll share their last meal with you.
Go visit. I’m glad I found this group. Wanted to share my thoughts if people want to visit. I also made a video of my journey if anyone is interested in going.

It’s a country that will stay with you forever.
