I was browsing Instagram over the weekend and got one of those Aberdeen in the 90s / 2000s nostalgia posts. One of the places mentioned was Quasar, which triggered memories of the music that played in the area when games were on.

Does anyone happen to know what the song was as I only have a very rough memory of the melody and Shazam didn't like my terrible acapella version.

Can anybody help? I’ve booked a bulk waste collection in the city and paid the £47 fee. The council have said I have a window from tomorrow to Friday for collection.

Do you know if they let you know the night before? I just don’t want to put an old sofa and sideboards out on the street and leave it there for a week if I don’t have too? They don’t pick up the phone and the chatbot just tells me the same as the e-mail so I think I am stuck just annoying my neighbours with junk on the street which is not ideal.

Cheers

FYI - the back section of level 4 (Scotrail levels) at College St car park has now permanently closed.

This will mean less parking for rail passengers and staff in an already busy car park. I’d recommend arriving early ahead of any planned trains to ensure you get a parking spot.

Looking for hardwood logs of 8". Anyone on here have a good supplier who charges less than £130 per cubic metre (excluding delivery)?

That is the cheapest I have found so far this year, which is quite a bit more expensive that what I paid last year (I usually order about 3m3 per winter. I realise everything is more expensive this year than last, but my budget is unfortunately the same :).

TIA

Hearing lots of sirens out and about and know these guys are responding to all the incidents this storm is creating. I'm scared to walk down the garden at the moment and in awe of all of them. ❤️

A shame about the monkey puzzle tree

Explain to me how endless newbuild housing developments keep appearing in spite of the dire state of the local economy and stagnant used housing market?

The oil and gas industry is in continued and endless economic contraction, with no sign of this trend reversing. Notwithstanding this, large luxury 4, 5 and 6 bed homes are thrown up and bought.

Anyone else think this represents an enormous ticking time bomb?

Will the purchasers with (assumed) high loan to value mortgages be able to re-finance when required at the same rate?

I know an incredibly high number of couples relying on double oil and gas incomes to pay liabilities - this seems incredibly dangerous to me.

Thoughts on this my good people?

A lot of them are showing "engineer on site", so not for too long I hope.

Hey folks,

I’m an international student (23M) currently out handing CVs along Union Street. I was feeling really stressed and anxious while going around looking for work and dropping off CVs, so I popped into a pub earlier today (Oct 24) to drop off my CV. I ended up having a great chat with the bartender, who kindly poured me a shot of Sheep Dog Peanut Butter Whiskey on the house!

Job hunting is really stressful, so that small act of kindness genuinely made my day and the whiskey was surprisingly good!!! :)

If you’re reading this mate, thanks again for the chat and the drink. I’ll definitely be back as a paying customer soon.

Cheers! 🥂

Edit: The Glentanar Bar on Holburn st (not the union st😬)

Just wondering - why is there no ward 113 in ARI? If it’s just for some religious superstitious reason, then they should take down 213 as well.

Any recommendations for somewhere good to eat that has at least a semi-decent amount of GF options?

And preferably good drinks too 😀

That's it. Just a bit wet

Has anyone seen these plushies in stock at any of the Asdas in Aberdeen? Looking to buy one for my friend ! Thanks

Hello, does anyone know of a pharmacy in or around Aberdeen that accepts an EEA Rx
e-prescription?

Hello all. I’m up in Aberdeen with my family over a weekend in December. I’m looking for some recommendations to meet the following:-

- nice meal to go on the Saturday night that will make an effort with Xmas decorations and will be a nice setting + food. This can be anywhere in the city as we will likely get a taxi to and from so open to go outskirts if somewhere is worth it. Chester hotel looks a nice place but unsure if the foods worth it? Likewise the Glenhouse?

- somewhere not fancy but close to the city centre for the Sunday after we take in the Christmas markets. Somewhere with good food with no thrills!

Any help would be appreciated. As I said it’s up with the family so need to allow U18s!

Hi everyone, as the title says I’m looking recommendations for a Boxing/MMA Coach/Trainer who works 1-on-1, ideally city centre based or near.

I’m not super fussed on the specific discipline (ie Boxing, Kickboxing, BJJ etc) but deffo need someone who is happy to work with a complete beginner + someone who may not be super fit (also LGBTQ+ friendly).

Open to club/class recommendations but I won’t lie, I’m not really the kinda person that can just show up to a group solo (anxiety rip).

Self-recs welcome.

TYIA!

So we did pop passed the Venezuelan place, but it looked closed so we tried out byte.

SUCH nice workers, friendly warm atmosphere and decent prices for such delicious food!

Never tried french toast before, really good, sweet and savoury as I got the eggs benny. The sourdough was like a doorstop size, usually I've had dry or caky versions, but this was truly amazing!

Definitely one we'd pop by again

incase anyone is planning on going that way around now!

WTH is going on with Evri in Aberdeen?! I have about 4 parcels stuck at their local depo and no signs of them getting delivered anytime soon.

I recently spent the weekend in Newcastle to watch A.M.C. at the World HQ. It was a brilliant night but what really stood out to me was the constant music scene in the city. Everywhere we passed there was music being played, or references to music culture. I personally feel a good music scene is what keeps a city feeling alive and it has left a lasting impression on me.

I’m hoping that in Aberdeen there is a music scene hidden somewhere that just needs to be brought to life. I am a massive fan of grassroots music and am thinking of potentially trying to kickstart a drum and bass scene in the city. But I want to know would there be anyone that’s interested in this type of music in the city? Or a waste of time?

Anyone who knows the offshore game might be able to help with this. I keep applying to Halliburton entry level offshore jobs but time and time again I keep getting rejected. My CV looks fine and I’m in a trade so I feel I’ve got relevant experience.

Is it just really hard to get an entry level job with Halliburton and it takes a miracle to get a position or could I possibly be blacklisted from applying.

Any help is appreciated thanks.

Happened last week. Recorded by one of the neighbours.

Hi everyone!

I’m a PhD student from Belgium and I’ll be spending a research stay at the University of Aberdeen from mid-January to mid-May 2027 (roughly 4 months). I’m starting to look for accommodation and would love some advice from people/students who know the city.

I’m hoping to find a place that is:

• Within walking, cycling or easy bus distance of the main campus (Old Aberdeen / King’s College)
• Furnished, with bills included if possible, since I’ll only be here for a short period
• Available on a short-term lease (4 months), which I know can be tricky
• Reasonably priced, ideally a room in a shared flat or a studio

If you’ve been in a similar situation, or if you have a room or know of a landlord/flatshare with a short-term vacancy for that period, feel free to comment or send me a message. Any tips on neighbourhoods, budget expectations or things I should know before arriving are very welcome.

Thank you so much in advance!
