Hello! I’ve been looking high and low for alternative shops for various clothing, accessories, etc but the one I know in Manama (that used to sell band tees) has unfortunately shut down. Does anyone know a hidden gem or anything? I’m sick of ordering online :(

Food truck Business

I want to start my own mini side business in Bahrain and was looking for an option to start by getting a Food Truck and establishing the brand first. Once enough customers are tapped and taste is set in, it would increase further.

Looking for suggestions on how much would be the cost for the municipality and etc. Please drop your suggestions.

🔸 Misc. In search of help to transport a cabin!

Hello all! I am helping out a local animal shelter (Bahrain Rescues) and they are in need of transportation help to move a cabin into a new location. Unfortunately, they have been quoted 130bd and struggling to complete that amount. They help a lot of dogs and cats in Bahrain, and they really need some community help for this one!!

Seeking volunteer help to transport their cabin! Anyone with a crane, truck and kind heart per chance? 🤣

If so, please comment or dm me! You’d be an absolute king/queen, and it would be a hilarious weekend errand, i assure. Please share this to someone with a crane 🤣😭

Update on the healthy food business idea in Bahrain

A few days ago, we started discussing the idea of launching a healthy food business, and we’ve been working on the numbers to see how we can make it work.

So far, the average meal price is around 1.250 BD, with 150g of protein food and 150g of rice by serving weight, not the actual protein or macros.
The plan is to sell through Talabat and another delivery platform that has offered us a better commission rate. Prices on delivery apps will be slightly higher to cover the commissions.

We’re also thinking of placing meals in حاضنات at different locations, where people can buy meals individually or collect their subscription meals.

The main reason for this is that we don’t want people paying extra delivery fees on top of their subscriptions. If someone is already paying 20+ BD for a subscription, adding delivery charges can make the whole thing feel more expensive than it needs to be.

This way, people can choose between delivery and picking up their meals themselves.
What do you guys think? Would this model work in Bahrain? And would you personally prefer having your meals delivered or collecting them from a nearby location?

RCSI BAHRAIN

I am a first year medical student at a university and it’s not that good so I am thinking about switching. RCSI Bahrain is my top option. I meet both the requirements for 5 year entry and the scholarship for it as a British curriculum student. I also have extra curriculars.

Is RCSI Bahrain worth the cost? Feel free to discuss the positives and negatives of it here including both the uni years and the post graduate life like residency opportunities and how successful do their graduates end up. Is it as good as the one in Ireland or should I apply there aswell.

🤔 Discussion Unpopular Opinion: Bahrain isn’t expensive. We’ve just normalized living beyond our means.

Before everyone attacks me, hear me out…

We complain about salaries, rent, inflation, and how impossible it is to save money in Bahrain.

But at the same time, we’ve normalized so many things!
3–5 BD on coffee almost daily.
Financing cars we realistically cannot afford.
Spending hundreds on weddings just to impress people we barely like.
Ordering food constantly instead of cooking.
Buying the latest iPhone while still paying installments on the previous one.

I think a lot of people in Bahrain are more afraid of looking poor than actually being poor…..
We’ve created a culture where appearances matter more than financial stability. Now, don’t get me wrong. Salaries absolutely need improvement, and the cost of living has increased. Some people genuinely struggle despite being financially responsible. But how much of our financial struggle is actually caused by the economy, and how much is caused by the lifestyle we’re trying to maintain?

Here’s my question: If everyone in Bahrain stopped trying to impress everyone else tomorrow, how many people would suddenly realize they can actually afford their lives?

E-waste

Just wanted to ask the community of Bahrain where do you usually donate electronics that are rendered useless, broken, damaged in the island.

Cuz throwing it in the trash harms the environment and will pollute Bahrain further.

Any suggestions would be helpful for sure.

☝️ AskBH Questions mainly about Expats: Affordable Nephrologists, Orthopedic Doctors, Medical Tests and Health Insurance for Pre-existing Conditions?

Hello everyone! I’m looking for advice, especially from fellow expats in Bahrain.

My mother has elevated creatinine and urea levels, and multiple doctors have recommended seeing a nephrologist. However, private hospitals are expensive, and I’ve heard Salmaniya appointments can take years. Can anyone recommend affordable, compassionate nephrologists who treat expats with dignity and respect? Even if they are at Salmaniya but must be a kind, intelligent and good one.

She also has osteopenia and a high risk of fractures, so we need an affordable orthopedic specialist. Recommendations for reasonably priced blood tests, kidney investigations and other medical services would be greatly appreciated.

**I also need advice about health insurance for expats** My mother has no insurance and has several pre-existing conditions, including diabetes, kidney issues, anemia, previous eye surgeries, an abnormal heart rhythm and occasional blood pressure problems. She also needs physiotherapy.

*Are there affordable insurance plans that cover pre-existing conditions?

* How much do they cost, and are premiums paid monthly or annually?

* Would consultations, tests, medications and physiotherapy be covered?

* Would insurance be cheaper than paying out of pocket?

* Are there any affordable government healthcare options or subsidies for expats?

We’re struggling financially, and I’m trying to find my mother proper care without compromising her health or dignity.

I’d be especially grateful for **personal experiences from expats** who have dealt with similar medical and insurance situations in Bahrain. Jazakum Allahu khairan for any help!

☝️ AskBH Where do you guys recommend changing CVT oil in Bahrain?

I have a 2012 Nissan Qashqai and I’m thinking of changing the CVT transmission oil. Does anyone know a good garage in Bahrain that does this properly?

I’ve heard that CVT gearboxes can be sensitive, so I just want to make sure I take it somewhere reliable that uses the right oil and knows what they’re doing.

If anyone has done this before, where did you go, and did you have a good experience? Just don’t want to end up causing problems with the gearbox by taking it to the wrong place 😅

🤔 Discussion A very frightening experience happened to me driving alone from Bahrain Bay to Muharraq Bridge

I was driving alone and waiting at a red traffic light. I was the fifth car in the queue. A tall dark man was going around selling water bottles to people in their cars and nobody took it. There were families and men in the cars ahead of me, but he didn’t stay at their windows for as long as he stayed at mine.
When it looked at me from far I already gave him a gesture no as its hot and I didn’t want him to hang in my window. He came right up to my window and kept staring at me. I signalled with my hand that I didn’t want to buy anything but he wouldn’t leave. I kept gesturing for him to go away but he just stood there staring at me from very close to my window.
Then I gestured more firmly for him to leave. I didn’t say anything to him verbally or insult him. I just wanted him to move away from my car as I’m a female and an up angle makes me uncomfortable that maybe he’s looking down in my dress or something that I’m sure of.
When he was no moving I showing him my phone so he understand that he needs to move, That’s when he started shouting at me and making hand gestures that looked like punching, as if he was threatening to beat me up. He started moving around my car, shouting loudly and cursing. I was so scared. I had goosebumps and felt completely unsafe sitting alone in my car.
Even while he was shouting, I showed him my phone through the window to make him think I was going to record him, hoping he would get scared and leave me alone. But he continued shouting. I wasn’t actually recording him at that point. I only have a short video from the very end, mainly capturing how loudly he was shouting. I wasn’t even trying to film his face.
But honestly the part that hurt me the most was that there were so many cars around me, a man infront car staring form his front mirror but and nobody did anything. Nobody even told him to stop or leave me alone. I wasn’t expecting anyone to fight him. I just wish one person had spoken up or shown some concern.
I keep thinking about how I was simply saying no to buying a bottle of water. Why did that have to turn into such a frightening experience? Why couldn’t he just accept my refusal and move on?
I understand that people may be struggling financially and I’m not judging anyone for trying to earn money. But being in a difficult situation doesn’t give anyone the right to intimidate another person.
What makes me angry is that I was driving alone and I had to worry about a stranger’s reaction just because I didn’t want to buy something from him. As a woman, I should be able to say no without worrying that a man might threaten me.
And the fact that everyone just watched made me feel even worse. I felt so alone even though I was surrounded by people.
I know some people might say to ignore it or that he was just trying to sell water but I genuinely felt threatened by his behaviour.
I just needed to get this off my chest. Has anyone else experienced something like this in Bahrain?

🤔 Discussion Grown women behaving like an airplane is their private party. Absolutely zero flight etiquette.

I was on a flight from Bahrain to Cairo on Wednesday, and I genuinely couldn’t believe the behaviour of a large group of women, seemingly in their 30s.

From the moment they boarded, they were screaming, laughing, shouting across rows, and behaving as though they had the entire aircraft to themselves. They even had a microphone. Yes, an actual microphone on a plane.

Multiple passengers complained about the noise, but the women couldn’t have cared less. Their response was that an airplane is public transport, they can do whatever they want, and anyone who doesn’t like it should buy a private jet.

At one point, one of them actually shouted,** **“Passengers, you are boring! Laugh! Talk!”

The entitlement was unbelievable. Not everyone is flying to a party or going on holiday. Some people are travelling for work, attending funerals, visiting sick relatives, or simply trying to get some sleep. Why should an entire cabin be forced to participate in your celebration?

Eventually, a female cabin crew member approached them after receiving multiple complaints. She explained that if the disruption continued, she would have to inform the captain and that the police could potentially be called to meet the aircraft.
Instead of cooperating, the loudest woman became verbally aggressive, accused the crew member of being rude, told her she didn’t want to speak to her, and declared the conversation over. From what I witnessed, the crew member was perfectly professional.

The women then started mocking her, saying things like, “What’s the captain going to do? Open the door and throw us out? Blacklist us?” and telling her to go ahead and complain.

But here’s where it got even more ridiculous.

A male passenger approached that same crew member to ask for a charger. She explained that she didn’t speak Arabic. The women immediately jumped in, encouraging him to file a complaint against her. This appeared to be because she was the crew member who had confronted them earlier.

Imagine being so entitled that you not only disregard complaints from fellow passengers but actively try to get a flight attendant in trouble for doing her job.

And these weren’t teenagers. These were grown women in their 30s, some of whom are mothers, behaving like they had absolutely no concept of basic manners or respect.

The cabin crew could perhaps have intervened sooner, but when they eventually did, they were met with hostility and ridicule. I genuinely felt sorry for that crew member.

I’m planning to write to the airline, not just to complain about the experience, but to make sure they hear another side of the story in case these women actually follow through with their threats to complain about her.

Since when did being on public transport mean you could behave however you wanted without any consideration for anyone else?

Has anyone experienced anything similar? Because this was honestly one of the most bizarre displays of entitlement I’ve witnessed on a flight.
