If you find a swift
Hey Guys, a short info for this sub to make things a lot easier for me. If some reconize a Swift in this sub that needs help, please contact me or give the person that found the bird my name. I'm a professional caretaker for swifts with the extra ability to help people that have no help nearby. I'm able to contact people that are in no phone book or seek veterinary in other countries that are specialized in swifts. And an extra note, if you also wanna help the birds or the people...the clinic in Frankfurt only functions through donations. And they have a lot to do this year.

Tornado season! Is your emergency kit ready?
Just got my first tornado watch of the summer, so I checked my emergency it, and realized it’s a good time to share info with y’all! My emergency kit includes…
* hard plastic carrier, labeled with my contact info – I also have a soft-sided backpack carrier, but I want hard sided for emergencies so she’s less likely to get crushed if something falls on her. Hard carrier has one perch, and normally I’d add a toy and news print on the bottom, but I just washed it.
* hard plastic tub to carry the rest of the stuff, also labeled with contact info, including her vet’s info and a description of her
Inside the tub are the following (generally in small ziplock bags):
* a reminder to add nonperishable food (pellets) and water
* contact info for me and my vet
* records that prove ownership, including purchase receipt and a few vet records
* nail clippers / dremel
* styptic powder, gel, or stick
* corn starch or flour in a ziplock bag
* q-tips
* cotton pads for makeup (I should probably add or swap with some gauze)
* baby shampoo
* scissors
* vet wrap / coban
* pliers
* a pillowcase (for emergency stuffing her into)
* individually packaged alcohol wipes
* a couple spare harnesses that she isn’t trained on, but just in case
The tub lives under her cage always, so it’s handy if ever needed. Her soft-sided carrier also lives under the cage. The hard-sided carrier lives in a closet, so since there’s a tornado watch (lower level of threat) I took it out and cleaned it up in case that escalates. And the tub and carrier are both near the exit and her cage should we need to go for the basement.
Pictures are of the emergency kit ready to go, and of Kappa herself (female dusky conure, 19YO) from last week.
Here’s a few resources for making your own kit:
https://www.cdc.gov/healthy-pets/emergency-preparedness/preparedness-kit.html

https://www.avma.org/sites/default/files/2023-11/aph-pet-evacuation-kit-checklist.pdf
Questions for y’all: do you have your own emergency kit? Are there different things in it, based on your bird’s needs or your local threats? Anything you think I missed or is overkill?

Feather loss around zebra finch vent
Posting this on behalf of a friend who is a first-time zebra finch owner. One of their finches has a bare patch around her vent, and another in the flock is also starting to develop the problem (there are three in total, all female). The birds are acting normally otherwise, cheeping, eating, and moving around, and poops seem normal. Would appreciate if anyone had any insight to share!

Sick pet bird Need advice for handling my sick budgie
This is not asking for medical advice, but I need advice of how to handle my bird and to know if I'm doing the right thing.
My budgie (male) of 3+ years (don't know the exact age) has been sick lately, he was going through a hard molting and has been a bit lethargic since. So I thought it was just molting that made him like that. He was basically taking more naps throughout the day, being fluffed up, not chirping, spending SOME time on the floor of the cage, on boot feet. He also had a lot of pin feathers.
Other time it was a bit more active, interacting with his male friend, jumping between perches and the cage bars, and foraging at the bottom of the cage. So it was not a 100% inactivity,
I started worrying when the pin feathers vanished, and the droppings became more liquid, with the white part being there, the dark part being dark green, and the liquid part being green as well against white paper.
I contacted a local vet (not avians in my country so I had to do my best), he checked him and told me to provide some antibiotics and vitamins, dilute it in a liter of water and to give it to him in the cage bottle and with a needleless-syringe.
I did just that, I would handle him with my hand, not compressing him and living a little space inside my palm, just enough to keep him from escaping but not too much to stop him from breathing. I would lightly push the syringe against the beak and take a moment of open beak to put a drop or two of the medicine-water in his mouth. 3 or 4 drops later I'd stop, lightly dry his feathers from the medicine, and put it back in the cage.
I started that yesterday, today he's been a little more active than he was in the last few days, albeit with some naps even if a little shorter than yesterday. I've also noticed that the green droppings have stopped and are almost normal in color and consistency (almost).
I'm not sure if he's eating well though, if at all. I've seen him put his head inside the seed compartment and rummaging through them, and even foraging for them on the cage floor, but not entirely sure if he's eating any. There are seed husks, but I don't know if it's him, or his friend.
I tried to bait him and see if he eats, and provided some parsley and bread (I know it's not healthy, but I'd rather him eat bread than nothing at all). He was munching on both, the ones I put on the highest perch, and the ones I put on the bottom of the cage.
Sorry for the long story, but given what I've told:
- Is it safe to say that he has a normal/normalizing appetite?
- Am I doing things correctly? I really don't want to hurt him trying to give him medicine.
- Are today's development encouraging in your opinion? I'm really afraid for him.
P.S. I can't find millet spray or pellets unfortunately. I try to provide the boys with other greens, but apart from leafy greens which they really like and that I provide in moderation (mint, parsley, coriander, lettuce), they refuse to eat absolutely nothing other than seeds.

Other concern with pet bird Concern with behavior
My dog barked at our green cheek conure and snapped her mouth at him. He freaked out and fell on the floor and was flapping around a lot. We examined him and he has no bite marks, no missing feathers and zero marks of my dog actually biting him. After he went very lethargic,would kind of just lay in your hand and stare at you. My husband held him and within the hour he was standing up on my husband's shoulder. Over night he's mellowed out and is just hiding in his hut. He will let you pick him up and hold him but he's not trying to fly away like he usually does and isn't being vocal at all.
I've requested a appointment at our local avian veterinarian but they have a wait list.

Button quail injury,
One of my button quails in the big avary got thread or something similar(couldn't identify the material, something made if plant maybe)around his foot. It was pretty bad and his back toe wasn't salvageable and is now gone , I have no idea what I should do to help it heal over. He's in a big box with food in a lid and water in a little Mexican cup. Should I keep him in the dark? Or is that a myth? He's got animal chip breeding in it and a little hide, how do I keep him confy and keep the injury from getting infected? Is it safe to put betadeen on or is that not safe for birds?

Sick pet bird Does this mean air sac mites?
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Is this tail bobbing serious enough to mean he has a respiratory issue or just balancing his body? He also makes clicking sounds and is quick to start mouth breathing after a bit of exercise.
It's a 1 year old crested gloster canary that I was gifted. Previous owner told me it's a male but due to lack of singing, I believe it's a female but for now I'll refer to him as a male.
He's been rubbing beak on perches and making clicking noises ever since I got him. I took him to the vet and they said the test to confirm respiratory issues costs extra so I only consented to the office visit and ivermectin medicine, which I've been treating him with for the past month and a half. The treatment has ended but he's still showing signs of illness.

Other concern with pet bird Is there something wrong with my Parakeet's foot?
I only noticed it a few days ago, and ive been trying tk schedule an appointment with an avian vet but all the ones near me say its gonna take like 3 weeks. He doesnt seem to mind it or look like hes in pain, his toes work when I stretch them out myself (which he doesnt like but he doesnt like his feet touched regardless). He is acting normal besides walking weird and not opening his foot.

Health Question!
Today my GCC Fritz has bilateral red splotches on the skin around his eyes. There is no swelling or discharge from his eyes, and his behavior, eating, and poops are normal. Nothing new has been interdicted to his environment or diet, and he has not been around any other birds. We have an appointment with our avian vet first thing on Monday morning. Has anyone had any experience with symptoms like this? Thanks!

Is this wood pigeon sick?
galleryThis wood pigeon was in my garden standing in one spot and after 20 or 30 minutes decided to move under one of the chairs in my garden, me and my family thought it was windswept until we went out to help it but on closer look at its beak my mum thought it had bird flu, it did try running away when we went out to get it so I don’t think it’s that sick if it is hopefully at least.
We put it in a cat cage in the shed away from the wind and rain since we’re currently in a storm and gave it some mealworms, water and straw for the night
I suggested to my parents to try and hand it in to a bird rescue centre but I think we will see if we can tomorrow in the morning
The main thing I’m worried about is the stuff around its beak, is it bird flu or something else? And is there anything else we can do?
And also my sister has said it has canker
