Question About SAA Type Guns
I have a question about SAA type guns. I’m new to guns in general; so don’t roast me too badly. My question is this: I’d like to get an SAA clone to compliment my Winchester model 1873. I’m debating on getting one chambered in in .45LC like the originals or .44-40 to match my Winchester. I know the cylinders can be swapped out. Will the gun itself be able to shoot both calibers? Thanks for the advice!

Just picked up a 1914 Oberndorf Gew 98 sporter in .30-06 for $300 and I'm thrilled! What do you think, and can anyone help with its history?
Just bought my first a WWI-era Gewehr 98 that was sporterized at some point. I'd love your thoughts on the rifle, the conversion, and whether $300 was a fair price.
What I've found so far:
Receiver: Waffenfabrik Mauser A.-G. Oberndorf a/N, dated 1914
Serial: 1187 with a script "f" suffix, matching on the receiver, bolt, and trigger guard. The floorplate is marked "87".
Markings: Imperial eagle next to the serial, three crowned inspector stamps on the receiver ring, and crowned stamps on the floorplate and trigger guard. No 1920 Weimar stamp or Nazi-era marks that I can see.
Caliber: .30-06 according to the shop. The barrel has been replaced with a slim sporter barrel.
Sights: Lyman 48 receiver sight with the July 11, 1911 patent date, and a banded front sight ramp
Stock: Hand-checkered sporter stock with a pistol grip, rounded forend, and a brass-capped cross bolt
Other details: Straight bolt handle, original military trigger and floorplate, thumb cut still there, and two plugged holes on the receiver ring where a scope base used to be
History: The previous owner bought it from the same shop around 2020 and says he never fired it
Questions:
Was $300 a fair price for this?
Any idea when or where it was sporterized? The Lyman 48 and banded ramp make me think American work, maybe the 1920s–60s?
With the "f" suffix, any way to tell whether it was made before or after the war started in August 1914?
Could the stock be the original military stock reshaped? The cross bolt sits right where the Gew 98's was.
Any tips on finding a barrel maker's mark?
It's going to a gunsmith for headspace and bore checks before I shoot it. Pics below. Thanks in advance! I can pick it up Saturday for more photos. I have to wait five days.
Vintage gun values
I recently began thinking about the vintage car market and it has slowly began to sink as older people have started passing or getting to old to maintain them and there is no one left to buy vintage cars and the market with younger people just isn’t there. I acknowledge this is due to pricing out younger generations of people who would be interested in the vehicles and the enormous cost to maintain older vehicle and the state of the economy not helping.
I’m curious if we could see the same kind of thing with firearms, I am 25 and very much into classic mid century firearms but most of my peers seem un interested in older firearms and are only interested in AR’s, AK’s, SMG’s and modern semi-automatic pistols. I have only ever bought guns and never sold one but I wonder if we would see a correction in the market when people who grew up during the times these firearms were new pass away and the grandkids have no interest and sell the guns.
I think most of the already sought after guns like pre-64 Winchesters will still keep there value and the market isn’t the same as the car market; in that just because the car is old it’s valuable and rolling bodies with no drive train or interior are valuable as guns are only valuable as complete working or completely original. I enjoyed when I was younger looking thru Craigslist in my area at the old cars but by the time I was old enough to buy them they started costing more than new cars and that’s if I could afford a place to store it. Guns I think are slightly different but I’d love to hear some opinions.

FFL-03 C&R in CA
Hi folks,
I was given the advice to obtain my FFL-03 license. I live in CA and the excise tax on top of the sales tax is currently 11%, that means anything that we buy for the firearms and firearms themselves comes with an additional 19.75%
I understand that the firearms that I can purchase out of State or even here throughout CA would need to be 50+ years old.
Can someone that is also here in CA, share with me what else can I purchase? I understand I will still be liable to pay for the sales tax difference (if the place where I purchased it from charged me less than 8.75% )I am really not 100% sure.
What privileges would I have by having this license?
TIA 🙏

Hunting scopes and mounting
I know this isn’t a hunting sub but I know you guys know a thing or two about scopes. I am finally at the age where I have some disposable income (not buying on credit). Durability, clarity especially in the twighlight, tracking, the usual things are important. Currently my tikkas plus my Bergara and Weatherby wear Leupold freedoms or VX-3’s, and I am not impressed by the clarity or tracking over the past few years.
I figure after this rifle season I can sell these and put that towards some better optics. What are y’all’s experiences and recommendations? Also, am I better off with mounting the scopes as low as possible considering bolt and barrel clearance? What rings do you recommend, currently I am using Talley ultralights.
Edit: I hunt in northern PA and souther NY most of the time. Planning hunting trips starting with Maine next year, also out west soon.

Israeli carry
I know this is like the greatest sin in the world for the gun community. But with videos of the p320 blasting in peoples holsters has made me anxious to carry with one in the chamber.
Was the p320 just made that badly? I have been carrying a bodyguard 2.0 which already has some bad manual safety tolerances. (I know some of you see using a safety as just as bad as not having one in the chamber).
What do you guys think? I'm not really worried about getting hurt. I'm more worried about going to jail for blasting a floor tile in a dairy queen within city limits.

What ever happened to the Beretta M9s popularity?
Back in the 90s it was everywhere in media. To the point that you can tell when a "no firearms allowed" sign was designed because older ones used the m9. Why'd it disappear?

KKM barrels
Glock store has forsaken me on restocking OEM threaded 19 barrels... so I have strayed from the path and ordered one of KKM's.
Anyone with recent experience, Is their quality control as good as the internet claims?
Anyone running one suppressed?

What number is “a lot” to you?
I was in a friendly conversation with a couple of folks the other day about what constitutes “a lot” of guns. We realized that our starting numbers were quite varied. One said 5 was a lot, another said 15+ was a lot, and I was like well I think like 50-100 is starting to be “a lot”. We also got to talking about if/when you run out of space to store them all, maybe that was more of what defined “a lot” instead of a number range.
So, Reddit, what are your thoughts?

Any thoughts on the Sig Sawtooth SBR?
I’m looking to get my first rifle and I really love my P365. I just shot a buddy’s Fix in 8.6 blackout and Mini fix in .300 and I loved them but I like Sig and I was wondering if anyone had any experience with one yet to give me advice. They told me I should get a 6 arc or 308 and I was just wanting some opinions

Selling a firearm to someone in the military
Hello, I’m looking to sell my firearm and I have someone who was interested in it, however they’re from Florida but stationed in my state (SC) in the military. I know you can’t sell to an out of state resident without going through an FFL, but is there any change in this situation? I haven’t really seen a straight answer since he could be qualify for residency in this state. If anyone has any experience with this please let me know
Is this ok to still shoot?
Noticed some of my rounds have dents in em should I toss em out or just send it, I have a G20 btw. Also does anyone know what’s causing it?

Black Friday/Cyber Monday
Haven’t bought anything in a while. Looking at waiting until the listed days to find a decent deal. Nothing crazy, maybe a smaller caliber. Possible Christmas present. Just wondering in the past or maybe insider info on what I can expect to see price wise. Thought about a bolt 22LR. But also open to something for myself too. TIA

States for shooting on your land...
I am a disabled veteran with some serious physical limitations.
I am in a process of retiring, whether I want to or not.
One of the only things I can do that gives me a good effort, pain, and suffering to reward and happiness ratio is shooting.
What state in the 48 contiguous states are best for shooting on your own land.
Fir example I heard Florida has specific protections for home ranges but don't know if it's really true.

Mounting Bracket for Stackon QAS-1514 / SpeedVault SV500
So this is an old safe I purchased locally on Facebook. I had an SV500 and that was mounted to an old dresser, but I just didn't like the setup. I've decided to try again because I got a REALLY good deal on this locally. Very similar safe.
My main question is if anyone has figured out a design that works or ever thought of it. I want to get a bracket of some sort that will slide down into the slot between my bed/boxspring and my bed frame. I'm thinking of like a U shaped bracket online that is meant for barricading doors with a 2x4, but that opening is too wide and will just wobble. I'm not worried about someone picking up the safe and running out as my EDC will be in it, just placed inside for home defense next to my bed. I could make that bracket work by putting ply wood or something on 2 of them and then mounting this safe to the plywood but trying to see if anyone can come up with a better idea. The bed frame itself that this bracket with wrap around is approximately 1.25" and I need a way to make sure its sturdy enough (length wise) to keep it from just falling/breaking with force when opening the safe itself.

Thoughts on a Suppressed Shotgun for hunting.
First, yes I am aware its likely going to have downsides vs normal hunting shotgun. I can live with them. I have a 870 if I need "normal".
Since no one makes a hunting shotgun intended to be supressed (eg short barrel with hunting features) my current plan is to get a Beretta a300 Ultima Patrol to put a YHM Victra on. Will use it for waterfowl, upland hunting, and just for fun. Going to run a vipers shotgun RDS since there seems no way to get a short enough barrel with a rib/bead to use with a can.
My question is
A: Should I consider another gun? Any option for a semi with a ribbed or regular beaded sight barrel 18-22 inch?
B. 12 Vs 20 Gauge. I have kind of landed on getting a 20g because I think they victra sounds a ton better and the lighter gun should help with the added weight of the can. I have a 12g 870 at so I am giving up using the can on that for fun as well as less ammo options etc...
Thoughts?
