transcription requested [German > English/German] Transcription Request: 1928 Gabelsberger Shorthand in a family letter (Oradea to Vienna)

Post image

Hello everyone,

I have a letter from 1928 where a central 10-line passage was written in shorthand (most likely Gabelsberger Stenografie). I would be extremely grateful if someone could help transcribe it into German (and/or English).

Context & Background:
Date & Location: June 7, 1928, sent from Oradea (Romania) to Vienna (Austria).
Writer: Erna (sister).
Recipient: Erich (brother, who just graduated with his medical degree / Promotion at the University of Vienna).

Immediately preceding longhand text: Erna congratulates him on passing his exams

(I'm happy to put up an image of the entire page if that's helpful

Because this passage is in shorthand, it is likely personal advice, family gossip, financial matters, or confidential thoughts about his next career/personal steps.

Any help reading any or all of these lines would be greatly appreciated! Thank you in advance!

Need help deciphering an oil painting signature (München / Munich School, dated 1951)

Hello,

I am trying to accurately identify the German artist who painted this piece. It is a traditional mid-century oil landscape depicting a lake and a massive limestone mountain peak in the Bavarian Alps / Oberland region.

The signature is located in the bottom-right corner and appears to be written in a fluid, old German cursive script (possibly Sütterlin or Offenbacher).

Here is what I can break down so far based on layout:

  • Line 1: The artist's surname. It seems to start with a prominent capital loop (maybe an S, Sch, or St) and features distinct vertical spikes or loops near the end (possibly a double tt or ff).
  • Line 2: Clearly looks like "München" (Munich), written in a quick zigzag script.
  • Line 3: Dated 1951.

Standard art databases frequently index artists by their standard block-letter signatures, but this particular piece seems to be signed in the artist's natural personal handwriting, making it hard to look up.

If anyone can help translate or recognize the specific letter structures in the surname on the first line, I would be incredibly grateful! Thank you for your time and expertise.

Lou
