Beauty ? Update to Subreddit Rules

Please take note of some updates to the Subreddit Rules:

New Rule Welcome to Rule 9: Period product related posts are only allowed on Menstruation Mondays.

Posts asking about how to use period related products, recommendations for products, questions about difficulty using products, etc are only allowed on Mondays.

Update to Rule 7: No general "Glow Up" posts. Posts must ask a specific question. General "why am I ugly" or "am I ugly" type posts are not allowed. Specific questions like "how could I improve my eyebrows" "How to reduce having frizzy hair" or "help with reducing ingrown hairs" would be allowed. But as usual, only on Fridays.

Update to Rule 6: Clarification that all posts related to undergarments (bras and underwear) are only allowed on Wardrobe Wednesday. Also no "what's my body type" posts allowed.

Update to Rule 4: Questions asking about why an individual is having difficulty dating or similar topics are not allowed.

Automod is being worked on to help with these rule updates, but it is far from perfect. Posts may still get made that break the rules and that's where you the users come into play.

REPORT POSTS THAT BREAK RULES.

Reporting posts helps them be reviewed and possibly removed if they break the rules more quickly.

Discussion Another conversation about bot comments and posts in this sub!

Thumbnail

I made a post a while about bot comments in this sub and a lot has changed since then, but I still think it’s a big problem in this sub:
https://www.reddit.com/r/TheGirlSurvivalGuide/s/M8lI6oqaEw

Bot account names have a lot more variety and they have avatars more often. I do still see the weird bios a lot

For the most part I find the writing style of their comments to be the same. They start out with trying to empathize with the op, basically paraphrase whatever they said, and give advice. I still see a lot of “and about [blank] thing” as they hit every point op brought up, so many comments that start with “honestly” or some variation of saying how real something is, and a lot of odd metaphors. And they don’t always use proper grammar and use a ton of hyphens and quotations

They also still do that thing where they respond to a comment instead of the post.

They all have slight variations of the same commenting history. For example, they might start out commenting once each in careerguidance, veterensbenefits, Christianity, nofap, mechanicadvice, some kind of ai sub, samsunggalaxy, askireland, thailandtourism, and then a sports sub (I’ve seen a lot of fantasy football or some specific team sub or nbatalk- and they always respond to another comment in these subs and their replies are just an amalgamation of all the other comments in the post) and then they pivot to this sub and multiple skincare subs. You will still see bots randomly commenting like once in this sub tho.

Some other types of bot accounts I’m seeing now are:
One where it starts out the same as the above, but then it pivots to posting in sex subs, lesbian subs, and healthy hooha.
Another where it starts out the same but they start commenting in the migraine/depression/fibromyalgia subs (it really pisses me off seeing bots trying to sympathize with a migraine btw lol)

Just as a side note- people can absolutely have multiple interests. You can like sports and skincare. I’m not trying to box people in or anything, but again it’s just when you see many accounts doing the exact same thing and combine that with the writing style and how new the account is it’s very obvious that they’re bot accounts.

Recently there was a post that at first I wasn’t sure about, but I’m pretty convinced it was a bot account and the comments were also filled with multiple bots (not all! If you see yourself in there and you are a human I think it’s obvious that you are!) responding to each other. I think this was some ad for magna electrolytes tbh:
https://www.reddit.com/r/TheGirlSurvivalGuide/s/AwwvInLj4Q

Pics 1-9 normal bot comments (5 and 8 also feature 2 bot comments in a row)
Pics 6, 10-11 bots responding to a comment instead of post
Pics 12-20 bot comment history
Obviously I could be wrong about some of these accounts, it’s possible! But I looked thru every one and they all looked exactly the same.

My hope with this post is that people actually start to notice and realize how many bots are on Reddit. They’re in almost every sub and generally I think it’s fairly easy to spot them. I really like and appreciate this sub, but it’s one of the worst I’ve seen with enabling bots and that’s why I’m posting it here again. Hopefully with better evidence and examples this time as all of these pics are from this sub. I know a lot of people actually don’t care, but if I post here I don’t want bots responding to me. I don’t care if their comment is innocuous or actually has good advice. I’m not here to talk or listen to bots!

Discussion My ex and I tried to lose our virginity twice, but he got angry at me when it didn’t work the second time.

I’m 18F, and I wanted to share an experience I had with my ex because it’s something I’ve been thinking about, and I’m wondering if anyone else has experienced something similar.

My ex and I tried to have sex twice, but neither time went as planned.

The first time, he couldn’t get hard, which meant we couldn’t really do anything.
I was completely understanding about it.

I didn’t get upset, make him feel embarrassed, or pressure him because I understood that these things happen, especially when you’re nervous.

However, the second time was completely different.

This time, he was able to get hard, but when we tried to actually have sex, it just wouldn’t go in.

I don’t really know why. I don’t know whether I was too nervous, tense, or if my body just wasn’t ready.

What upset me the most was his reaction.

Instead of being understanding like I had been with him the first time, he actually got angry at me because it wasn’t going in.

He was huffing and puffing and wouldn’t speak to me normally the whole night he continued to use simple sentences or just one word.

It made me feel horrible because it wasn’t something I was intentionally doing or something I could control.

I just found it unfair that when his body wasn’t cooperating, I was patient and understanding, but when it was my body, I was met with frustration and anger.

Neither of us had successfully had penetrative sex, and the whole experience left me feeling confused.

I’m wondering if any other girls have experienced something similar where penetration just wouldn’t work, especially during their first time.

And has anyone else had a partner react negatively when things didn’t go as expected?

Health ? Gained 20+ kg in two years due to a mix of past mental health meds, ADHD, GERD, and severe bloating—despite clean labs and going to the gym. (Photos included) .

Hey guys. I’m 23F and I’m dealing with a massive health burnout right now. I really need to vent and hopefully hear from people who have been through a similar nightmare.

In 2024, I was consistently under 60 kg (first photos). Now, I am around 80 kg with extreme water retention and severe abdominal bloating (recent photos).

Over the past couple of years, my life has changed a lot:

I dealt with severe stress and depression (started treatment in 2024, but I'm happy to share that I've recently successfully tapered off the medication because I'm doing well with my anxiety now!).

I was diagnosed with ADHD.

I have strict dietary intolerances to both lactose and gluten.

After dealing with severe digestive issues, I had two endoscopies and was diagnosed with GERD.

Despite going to the gym and having completely flawless blood work, my body has completely ballooned with fluid and weight.

Between managing ADHD, navigating a gluten-free and lactose-free diet, and dealing with acid reflux, my body feels completely unrecognizable in my own skin.

I’ve seen multiple doctors, but I keep hitting a wall. They either dismiss it or just tell me to "eat less and move more," completely ignoring my normal blood work, gym routine, and the history of gut inflammation and fluid retention issues.

If you’ve experienced sudden weight/water weight gain while navigating past meds, ADHD, or severe gut issues (like GERD/food intolerances), how did you handle it? Did you ever find a doctor or a solution that actually helped?

Thanks for listening.

Social ? 28(f) virgin because of hemorrhoids

I’m a 28 year old female virgin for a few different reasons. i am not ugly by any means but i was always extremely insecure about a number of things that would prevent me from having sex. i was able to get over my insecurities of not being model thin, having ugly moles, and labia appearance. but i i don’t think i will ever be able to get over the insecurity of having an ugly asshole since i was at least 15 years old. i once described it to my sister and she said “ewwww like a mudflap??” and i said “yes, that is exactly what it is like”. am i overthinking things? do i have to warn my partner if i ever decide to risk having sex??

Health ? Is it normal to pass tissue with every period? It’s been this way since I was 12

Hello everyone. I’ve suffered from pretty deliberating cramps since a teenager. This pain is always followed by the passing of what I can only assume is the uterine lining. It’s not a full decidual cast, but a partial, and it’s not every period, maybe 8 out of 10. Its like my body can’t fully break down the lining and it comes out it one piece. I always look and wait for it, because once it passes I know my pain and suffering is over with. It’s about the size and shape of a thumb. I also have, according to my multiple MRI uterine scans, a very thick and heterogeneous endometrium, so that might be part of it. Is this normal, or am I an anomaly?

Social ? i self-isolate because of ugliness. how do i stop?

I've been isolating myself at home off and on for over 2 years now. I'm 22 years old, and I am an ugly woman. Now, I could go on about how women are treated poorly and judged harshly due to beauty standards, expectations surrounding femininity, racism, sexism, and misogyny. We all know about those things, or at least I hope we do.

I've been routinely abused, dehumanized, misgendered, laughed at, publicly humiliated, used, and treated like a secret for being unattractive when it comes to my face. As a result, I have chosen to isolate myself at home. I do a lot of things inside the house: cleaning, exercising, spending time with my dog, watching movies on streaming or on DVD. I like to read, take care of myself, and so on.

However, I'm not going to sit up and lie or romanticize this kind of lifestyle. It's unhealthy. I already know that. I do this because I have developed a poor sense of self, but part of that is because I've been treated as if I don't matter. I've been treated as if I am the wrong kind of woman for existing with a face that I never asked for.

There are people in this world who will make you feel like absolute garbage because you're not attractive. Some people get a sick thrill, amusement, or genuine entertainment from tearing another person down. As soon as I try to put myself out there, I get scared because I'm reminded that people will judge me. Being told that nobody is paying attention to you, that they are more concerned with what they have going on, simply isn't true in many cases.

Even when I was in the most vulnerable environments, I was abused for how I looked, and that made me feel awful. I hate that I can't enjoy my early 20s because a lot of people romanticize being young and getting to experience adult life for the first time. I want to be able to enjoy myself, but I can't.

Men take advantage of me because they think I'm easy, and they like my body, but they hate my face. Some women are quite cruel to me because I don't embody a sense of femininity or womanhood that is digestible. Others see me as someone who is not worthy of respect, but they might give me some respect out of pity.

Not everyone acts like this, though. Some people actually see my humanity, and they don't try to take advantage of me. However, I know I'm an easy target because I am a woman of color. My face is ugly. I'm neurodivergent, and I don't fit into a neat little box.

I hate all the passive-aggressive responses that I get when I open up about being an ugly woman. Some people will invalidate my experiences and tell me that I caused most of my own pain. A lot of this started when I was a child. It hasn't stopped.

I wish people were kinder. I wish others stood by their own morals. Some of the people who claim to be kind aren't kind to people like me.
My humanity still matters, but many people don't think so. I hate having to keep myself in this house. I want to live. I want to go back to school. I had so many hopes and dreams.

How do I live my life again?

Health ? Can hips widen at 28?

I’ve noticed more of my clothes don’t fit and I know I have put on a little weight, but my hips definitely feel more prominent than they used to. Like my jeans and skirts feel tightest around my hips.

Social ? Losing hope lol do any girls wanna be friends?

Been going through a rough patch and would really love to have some solid girl friendships.

Little bit about me: I’m 26, work in media, love tv/movies, and am pretty basic lol so if it sounds like we would get along feel free to reach out.

Kind of losing hope as I’ve tried so many avenues. Bumble bff, workout classes, book clubs, etc. but nobody seems to want to form a real, true friendship. I’m not looking for another acquaintance, I’m looking for someone who will actually know me and I can know them. Trying to stay positive.

Discussion What niche advice have other women in your life given you that changed your life?

I don’t mean the generic “be yourself” advice. I mean more fresh perspectives or things you hadn’t really heard before that changed your perspective on a specific topic. It can also be things you figured out that would work well as a tip or advice to improve your life.

I never really had a great relationship with my mom and so I sometimes feel like I missed out on some good, solid woman-to-woman advice. I’m trying to go on a general self-improvement journey and I would appreciate any advice on pretty much anything!

Mind ? I'm not good at being a person

I'm 19F and in my sophomore year of college. I don't know what's wrong with me but I'm just bad at being a person. I feel like every single thing I do is the wrong thing. I had a horrible experience with my roommate last year, and I know I was the main problem, but I tried so hard to fix it. I was walking on eggshells every day trying to maker her happy but it still wasn't enough. It broke my heart every time I heard her talk bad about me behind my back, but I can't blame her because I can't help but believe her. And so here I am in my new apartment this year and I thought it was going so good. I have my own bedroom this time but we share a bathroom. But I just got a text from my new roomate and again she said there are "smells" in the bathroom. And she was very kind about it but I feel so ashamed and isolated. I feel like I can't exist without causing problems and I don't know what to do. Everything is just so much all the time and I feel like everything is snowballing downhill. I was just diagnosed with heart failure a couple months ago, and I hate using it as an excuse because it's not even causing me that much of an issue right now but it's adding to the stress of everything and I can't even relax in my own apartment. I don't know what to do. I can't believe I'm failing at being a person.

Mind ? How do you memorize a lot of information that was randomly dumped onto you while being so stressed?

I’m in intro to ochem and we have 6 weeks left in our 16 week course. We were allowed a flash card with general reactions on them for the last two exams. Today though we learned that that right has been revoked because someone cheated. And it’s for the whole class as if we’re like in elementary school or something. We have the memorize now every reaction while we weren’t before so everyone in the class is so overwhelmed. I’m so stressed it’s not even funny, it’s so much in so little time. I don’t know how to do this or go about it. I really need some help, I’ve never been this stressed before.

Health ? How to cope with grieving the past?

I turned 24 this year. I feel old, ugly and too tired to do anything. I had a period of grief that happened around 3 years ago. Since then I’ve been unable to do a lot of things.

I also just finished my MA and now my life plans are over. I don’t know what I want anymore. Life is different now. I used to want to do a lot of things and had many hobbies. I was also really pretty. I loved taking care of myself and partaking in my hobbies. I don’t have the willpower to do anything anymore. I’ve gained a lot of weight, I don’t do skincare anymore, I smoke a lot more, I started drinking, I mostly sleep if I’m not out clubbing etc etc. Just very unhealthy and a bit miserable right now. And it makes me sad.

I genuinely don’t know what to do other than waste my time and wait for the next day. How do I cope with all this? I think I’m grieving what I used to look like and how the world used to feel before everything happened.

Sorry if this feels sad! I’m just going through a lot in my head I think, but I’m not feeling that horrible either. I just don’t know what to do! Any advice would be great honestly. I want to get out of this weird loop I’ve forced myself into.

Social ? Feeling resentment towards my friends in a trio.

Hi guys, I (20f) have two close friends as of now. I don't have many other close friends other than my best friend who lives in a different province that I met in my first year of uni. I moved back home after dropping out of uni after my first year due to mental health issues, along with one of the girls who also moved back due to not liking her program last year 2025. Eventually we became a trio after the girl I moved back with (who I had been hanging out with still) and the other girl (who she had been hanging out with, I lost touch for a little bit) got close this year.

lets call the girl who went to uni with me and came back with me, and who ive hung out before this year with more : Hana. & the one I became closer to this year with: Sara

I knew both girls since high school before they knew each other, and remember when they got close as well. Honestly I never used to care about little things like this in friendships, but since I graduated high school I have become pretty sensitive, somewhat feels like the people pleasing in me has given out.

There have been tiny moments that have really gotten to me, and I know they didn't mean to do/say it like how Im taking it but it still hits like that. I won't go into too much detail right now. But things like Sara said to me that I take things socially how others dont, when I asked what they meant, she said that I overanalyze (I felt like she was hinting at me being too sensitive). Hana chimed in and laughed saying 'ya sometimes I get accused of stuff by her that Im like when did I do that'.

I never accuse people of doing stuff because im over considerate. Im not saying this to be 'proud' of myself, I hate it because my peace is constantly gone while im protecting others. What Hana was hinting at there was a moment when we were at McDonalds when all 3 of us were like ok lets 'air' everything out, or say moments when we all have been annoyed at each other. It was literally just me and Hana going after each other, but I didn't say anything until they forced me to and when I did it wasn't taken seriously. Me and Hana have had a few ups and downs, and she doesn't make me feel good a lot of the times not like my best friend from uni does, but ive known her so long she's a 'comfort' but not a safe space which hurts me so bad. It's not even her fault because I know she's just being herself, it's me who's having problems.

Hana used to snap at me or get made at me for not hanging out in a mean tone which she never does to Sara. I recently had a breakdown infront of them. I couldn't help it, I didn't really tell them everything about my resentment but otherwise I told them I feel super sensitive since I left high school. It's been better since then but I still don't know how to make my resentment feel better or feel fully safe and alive in our hangouts.

We all have each others locations. I've noticed both of them hanging out with each other 3/4 times already without me. I hang out with the Hana alone too, but only after we ask Sara and when she says no. But all the times ive seen them hanging out without me, I wasn't asked.

I feel annoyed because I hang out with Hana but never with Sara. And let's say I mentioned that the Sara told me something that Hana doesn't know for once, Hana would get mad like oh she told u alone? when? Or me and Sara used to do FaceTimes early this year (like once) and when we told Hana, she was like ugh so I wasn't invited, it was just that she slept early that day. It's frustrating cuz I feel cut off from having a one on one friendship with Sara, I can't even imagine messaging her and being like lets hang out (without Hana) but they both do it without me all the time. This just happened now which is why I felt like telling someone.

I want to make friends other than just them too. I realized that could be the problem. They both seem to have people apart from me which I dont. And maybe just compatibility wise it doesn't work, they dont feel like my safe space. I don't want to cut them off. but I don't know how to start feeling ok with this now.

Social Tip How to deepen your voice?

I'm an adult, but I have a really, really high-pitched voice. It is so bad that it has been affecting my life. I become really quiet, and it actually hurts my throat to speak louder. I also feel really insecure whenever I talk because the first thing people would do is comment about how "cute" my voice is. But I extremely hate it because there are more people who look down upon my work, don't trust my credibility even if my achievements were there, etc. I played VC games in hoping to increase my confidence to speak louder, just to have people not talk to me at all because I sound like a kid. Or if not, they would mock my voice and insult me.

I also look like a kid, so it makes everything worse. I have been trying to gain weight, lift and dress maturely, but my voice is the biggest problem. Even after I try putting my voice in a deep voice changer to the deepest setting, my voice is still that high, so you could imagine how high it is.

Discussion 90th Birthday Gift

My husbands Nana's 90th birthday is this weekend. We are having a family get together with extended family. I have two kids (1.5 and a little over 2.5). She speaks mostly Spanish and we do not speak much. Does anyone have any ideas for gifts?! Something sentimental especially would be great. She has TONS of photos in her house so I want to do something a little more meaningful. I am so bad at these things. Does anyone have any ideas?!

Tip Everyday Meals and food

Hey, i was just curious what other women are eating on a daily basis. Im currently 24 and live alone and I wouldn't say I eat healthy at all. I air fry alot of things and eat probably entirely like a bachelor, noodles, skipping meals, alot of frozen stuff, kd, eggs. Just recycling simple meals because im absolutely hating cooking right now. But im genuinely curious about what other people are ACTUALLY eating for meals, rather than just "trendy tiktok meals".

Discussion I GOT MY FIRST PAP SMEAR AT 28 🫶

I'm so PROUD of myself!! It was SO FAST, less than 30 seconds, and nowhere near as bad as I thought it would be!! The initial insertion was painful but it was no more painful than rushing into sex with no lube when I was on antidepressants that dried me up. I felt the slightest pressure when the speculum was opened but I did not feel the swab at all, for which I am grateful.
