Mod Post FAQs about r/AnxietyHelp

Hi guys,

One of the mods here suggested creating a FAQ page for our subreddit to help eliminate confusion.

Why was my post removed automatically?

It wasn't! It has been sent to our mod queue for manual approval.

Why?

We have minimum account karma and age requirements for our sub to prevent bots and spam. If your post is automatically filtered out please allow us a day or two to approve it. Normally we are able to approve faster than that but we all have commitments outside of moderating. Submitting the post multiple times will NOT expedite the posting of your content.

What does rule #1 mean?

Any posts regarding suicidal thoughts or intentions will be removed. Please contact 988, go to the emergency department, or try r/suicidewatch. These posts can be triggering and we are not equipped to respond appropriately.

What does rule #2 mean?

This is one of the most commonly broken rules. We. Are. Not. Doctors. No one can diagnose your medical condition(s) properly that is not a doctor. Asking whether other people experience similar symptoms is allowed but blatantly asking, "is this anxiety or __________?" is not allowed. Speak with your primary care doctor or try r/askdocs.

What does rule #3 mean?

We were at one point inundated by YouTube and Spotify links. We are not allowing them to be posted or shared anymore so please don't link to us about the awesome anxiety playlist you created.

What does rule #4 mean?

To keep things civil and inclusive we do NOT allow discussions regarding politics or religion. Should a time be deemed appropriate to discuss these topics we will create a megathread. Do not post political or religious content. Do not comment about religious or spiritual content. Both will be removed.

What does rule #5 mean?

NO TROLLING. Do not post or comment making fun of our users. Do not post trying to rage bait. Do not comment trying to manipulate people. Generally, don't be a dick.

What does rule #6 mean?

This is mainly intended for bots but we see it happen sometimes. Do not link anywhere to buy or sell drugs. Do not ask users where you can buy drugs. Do not offer to sell drugs.

What does rule #7 mean?

We have seen an influx of posts that have nothing to do with anxiety. There are other subreddits more appropriate for this content.

What does rule #8 mean?

No picking fights and that comments should revolve around helping each other. There is no reason to start arguments with other users. A disagreement of opinions is one thing. Turning a thread into a full blown argument is another. If you disagree with something simply scroll on.

What does rule #9 mean?

Stop posting your blog, shop, Etsy, etc. If you want to share stuff do it directly on Reddit. No external third party links should be used just to generate traffic.

Need Advice My partner’s ex is a successful musician, who wrote wild songs about him

For context, we’re a fairly new relationship, but a well established one and have known each other a long while. I also have diagnosed severe anxiety and audhd.
His ex is so talented, stunning, and successful,
I cannot risk dropping too many details for that reason in particular . I have this terrible feeling in my stomach whenever she pops up, especially since the lyrics in her songs describe him being (explicitly) obsessed with her, still in love, with specific references to him. She’s everywhere, popping up on social media, her songs playing. I followed her for before I even knew him too, and was really fond of her for years (I have since unfollowed for the sake of my anxiety 😥)

It’s just eating me up inside, I really don’t know what to do. Now, I do not know how to handle it, whether through discussion with him or just learning how to leave it alone. The constant anxiety is making me ill, especially when she comes up in conversation every now and then (she was a big part of his younger years).

Is it worth talking to him ? If so… how would I even go about doing it?

Need Help had my first shift and feel like an idiot

boy 😭 this anxiety stuff never ends. i’m somehow more stressed after my first shift than i was leading up to it.

i feel like i didn’t understand anything. like my trainer explained so much and i just didn’t comprehend anything of it. i feel so dumb and im freaking out over the idea that im the worst employee ever. she explained when to restock and where to get shit from and i just ??? didn’t pick up on anything even though i was listening. i feel like i was internally panicking too much to actually hear her and i feel so stressed and panicked about it.

i have my second shift tomorrow and i feel like throwing up. i’m just know that i’m going to fuck it up so badly. i don’t know. if anybody has words of encouragement / personal experience at being shit at the easiest job ever and ending up fine please share them 🥲

Need Advice Extreme Stress and Anxiety - Need some tips

• Upvotes

I am very stressed right now due to a visa application in progress. I am overthinking checking the portal multiple times through the day Even though I am only halfway through the timeline of processing.

I can't get myself to stop reloading the same websites over and over. This is super stressful and it is busy time for me at my Job too so the combination of it all is driving me crazy. I would appreciate some tips please.

Need Help Having the worst anxiety of my life

• Upvotes

Long story short I got into the worst conflict with my husband that we’ve ever had in our relationship. No yelling or anything, but I told him I wasn’t a fan of some of his new friends, I was being insecure and jealous. I don’t really want to get into the details. We resolved the conflict and we’re all good, but I can’t get myself to calm down.

I can’t help but feel like I changed the dynamic of our relationship by being jealous and changed the way he sees me. Like we’re not best friends anymore, I’m just the wife. And I’ve nuked my #1 safe space. I’ve apologized, offered to make one more effort with these friends. I’m trying to let it go and move forward but I can’t help feeling embarrassed for what I did. I was going to talk about it in therapy first but I didn’t have the chance because my husband kept asking me what was wrong and I didnt want to lie. I scheduled an emergency therapy appointment but can’t get in until the end of the week. I even tried to text through it as I have in the past for big emergencies and my therapist was just like “oh no!”

I’m getting myself so worked up when I’m by myself that I threw up, and I feel nauseous now. My heart hurts. I’m not really eating. I told my husband I thought I ruined everything. He says I didn’t, and seems normal now. My family thinks it’s not as big of a deal as I’m making it out to be. Most of my anxiety comes from I can’t take it back and I’m ready to do the work to get over it but I have to wait to do that. This is never something I would’ve done like 3-4 years ago. I don’t recognize my behavior.

If anyone’s gone through anything similar and has any good advice please let me know. Or any advice on what to do when you have an emergency and can’t see your therapist asap. I was already thinking about switching before hand to find one that focuses more on adhd.

Self Help Strategy Tremors from stress and anxiety

Does anyone here experience body tremors when they're anxious or stressed? Can you share how you were able to deal with it? I'm trying to lay down on my bed and relax, but I can feel my entire body shaking. I was supposed to start medication, but I don't have the funds to meet my doctor yet.

Need Help Please help me. Severe OCD, Anxiety and Emetophobia are making my life unbearable.

Hi everyone. I'm really struggling and would be so grateful for advice, support and recovery stories. My OCD and emetophobia have become so distressing that I feel like I'm losing my life to them.

I'm terrified of vomiting and nausea, and my OCD now connects ordinary things like texting, taking pictures, uploading posts, using open-mouth emojis, or making phone calls with my mouth open to the fear of vomiting.

I also struggle with colour OCD (especially brown, orange and green), fear of even numbers, and religious OCD involving washing rituals, prayers, recitations, and constantly doubting whether I've done things correctly. I'm trapped in cycles of anxiety, reassurance-seeking, checking, avoiding and repeating things.

I feel like I can't even text someone without first praying my obligatory prayers, even when there's still time to pray. I worry that WhatsApp messages will stay on my phone forever and that God will punish me forever, leaving me nauseated or vomiting forever. I know these fears might sound irrational, but they feel so real and distressing that I don't know how to escape them anymore.

I can't currently afford therapy, and I'm also caring for my disabled mother, which makes everything even harder.

Please, if you've experienced similar OCD fears and recovered, tell me how you did it. Did ERP or CBT help? How did you stop obeying your thoughts and start living normally again?

I'm genuinely desperate for hope and practical advice. I want to practise my faith peacefully, use my phone without fear, and get my life back. I feel so overwhelmed, and I'd be incredibly grateful to hear from anyone who understands. Please be kind.

Need Advice Tips for dealing with anticipatory anxiety?

I am in first year university and I am dealing with a lot of anticipatory anxiety. I get so many thoughts doubting my major choices, questioning what I am gonna do with my life after uni, worrying about what I should be doing to get ahead, stressing over a job market I am still a minimum of 3.5 years away from entering, worrying about ending up in a career I don't like or living in a place I don't like in order to work etc etc etc.

It has been interfering with my studies as often when I try to sit down and study, my brain spirals into these thoughts and I spend hours of my week researching things related to these questions. it is an endless circle I find myself in.

Advice for staying in the moment and dealing with this kind of anticipatory anxiety?

Need Help Very sore body after 4 hours panic attack

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to soothe your body after a panic attack? I was shaking uncontrollably for 4 hours in the ER and now that the panic is gone and I am home, I am completely exhausted, sore and am having ovary pain (my anxiety makes my endometriosis flare like crazy). It’s preventing me from sleeping. Any words, tips or advice is so greatly appreciated❤️

Need Advice Does anyone's anxiety mean they always have to be doing something?

Hello! I was wondering if anyone had any advice for me, as I've been struggling quite badly with my anxiety recently.

I've always struggled a bit with anxiety, and am usually quite good at managing it, but it's come back hard these last couple of months. As I'm sure a lot of people will have heard before, keeping busy is a good way to combat feelings of anxiety and distract your mind. This works well for me, but the problem it creates is that I literally cannot relax.

To keep the anxiety at bay, I have to always be doing something - I work, I go to the gym, I hang out with friends and family, I read, I write, I sew, I bake. I enjoy all of these things, and generally like to be a busy person, but sometimes I want to just chill and have a quiet night watching TV. The problem is that as soon as I'm not focused on something, my mind wanders and I start to feel very anxious all over again.

For context, a lot of my anxiety lines up well with symptoms of OCD, I specifically become stressed about my health, potentially being ill, or panicking about the death of my loved ones.

I'd just like to watch a movie without feeling the urge to check my body for lumps lol.

Need Help nervous system regulating

does anyone know any good ways to regulate your nervous system and calm anxiety in general that don’t involve breathing exercises? i’ve tried my hardest with them but i’m asthmatic still at my big age so it is harder with ones where i have to hold my breath since it just seems to increase the anxiety.

Need Advice Fighting for my life basically

So this is the typical I hate my job post. I wake up every morning with a pit in my stomach because I dread what a co worker will say about me or a customer. I work in a mentally demanding healthcare field and have been here for a year. I’ve called off twice in one month (usually not like me) because I am sick from anxiety. I don’t like doing that, I hate looking like I’m screwing people over. But I don’t know how long I can keep going.

I have a cat, rent, and a car payment. I cannot quit and I am looking for other jobs. If anybody has gone through this or has advice to power through this incredibly miserable, stressful, hell period of life it is welcome. I can’t take this anymore.
