My wife and I were messing around the other day, and one of her auburn wigs fell on Hakuro (that's our dog, he's a white shepherd-heeler mix). I fixed it so it was sitting properly on his head and joked, “Hey, look! Hakuro could dress up as Anna from Frozen for Halloween!”
My wife immediately got upset, snatched the wig away, and told me never to put that wig on Hakuro again.
At first, I figured I had messed up somehow. Maybe she was worried about hygiene. Fair enough. I messed up, I was going to apologize and move on.
But here's the strange part: she doesn't actually seem angry at me. She's just been unusually dismissive whenever I bring it up, almost like she doesn't even want to discuss the idea. It's not like her to react this way over something so trivial.
Now I'm wondering if there's some kind of emotional attachment to that wig, or if it reminds her of something unpleasant. I don't want to pry into something personal if she's not ready to talk about it, but I also don't want to ignore something that might be bothering her.
Should I bring it up again and ask if everything is okay? Or should I just respect her wishes and drop it?
I love my wife, and the last thing I want to do is accidentally upset her over a stupid Halloween joke.
Edit so... how do I say this... she wasn't mad, but now she's mad. Lol. It was a reference from a show. I made the mistake of saying "I'm glad it wasn't a big deal" now I have to watch the show. Shes not telling what happened but I need to watch it now.
