My apartment has a perfectly valid address. Main road, cross road, layout, PIN code. Everything is correct on paper.
But if you actually try finding the entrance using that address, good luck.
Google Maps takes you to the back wall of the compound. The main gate is on a different lane. The building name is partly hidden behind a tree, and the road sign disappeared ages ago.
Delivery guys usually call and I tell them to come near the bakery and take the second left. Works every time.
Recently our security guard asked residents to update the delivery instructions in their apps because people kept showing up at the wrong gate.
And it made me realise how normal this has become. We basically have two addresses. One for official documents and another that only makes sense if someone explains it over the phone.
Now imagine it's an ambulance or a fire engine trying to find the correct entrance at night.
I'm not talking about traffic delaying emergency vehicles. That's a separate nightmare. I'm talking about the last 100 metres, where a perfectly accurate location pin can still lead to a locked gate on the wrong side of a building.
We spend so much on apartment security, CCTV and fancy entrance landscaping, but something as basic as a clearly visible building number and gate location seems to be an afterthought.
Have any apartment associations here actually tried fixing this? Not just correcting the Maps pin, but making the building genuinely easy to locate for someone visiting for the first time?
I'm curious whether this is particularly common in newer layouts or if older parts of Bengaluru have the same problem.
