Don’t post about tickets.

If you are looking to buy or sell concert tickets you are very likely to get scammed. It's as simple as that.

Don't buy tickets on Reddit, however desperate you are, it's a crazy risk. There are proper channels for resale of tickets, use them.

So if you post about selling tickets here we will remove the post and may ban you. Please don't do it.

Posting about Tickets, Accommodation, Tourism? Things that aren't related to Dublin? Read This First.

This subreddit is primarily for people who live in Dublin. There's a dedicated sub for tourism posts with a huge archive at r/irishtourism Please check that first, and if you have a really specific question come back here and we'll try to help. Low effort posts asking for recommendations of "hidden gems" and "off the beaten track" tourist attractions will be met with scorn, and probably removal.

If you are looking to buy or sell concert tickets you are very likely to get scammed. It's as simple as that. Don't buy tickets on reddit, however desperately your niece wants to see Taylor Swift or whatever, it's a crazy risk. There are proper channels for resale of tickets, use them.

Looking for a cheap flat? A room in a shared house? Wondering if a specific part of the city is "safe" (whatever that means)? There's a sub for that too- /r/RentingInDublin/

Post your message there, not here.

A regular thing that comes up seems to be folks who have a very short time in Dublin and want to know what they can do in four or five hours or so. Just search this sub with the word "layover" and you'll see many many threads about this subject. Don't start a new one.

Similarly, threads about general issues which are not particularly Dublin-specific (salaries, national politics, international relations, stuff like that) may be removed.

At the latest estimate there are over a million Irish subreddits, so you will certainly be able to find somewhere to post your non-Dublin-relevant content.

Thanks for reading!

I am not much of a parade person but I love seeing Macanas parade. It's something so eerie yet captivating. It's like living a vivid dream or tripping without anything.

The sheer ability to imagine and produce this parade is beyond my mental capacity. The people who take the stage and the ones who make the parts moving need to have a level of sheer brilliance. Here are my few captures of someone missed seeing the parades.

House Cleaning service

• Upvotes

Hi! Is there any house cleaning service to recommend? With some good prices? The house is small so it shouldn't take more than 2-3h to clean it all.

Attic insulation costs inline with SEAI grant

I live in a terraced house with an attic area of approximately 36m2. A while back I got a quote from an approved contractor for €2700 to place an additional 200mm of insulation in my attic. Seemed a lot, even once the grant is deducted would have cost €1400 so I stalled with any improvement plans. I’ve recently heard of some SEAI companies down the country doing satisfactory work that came within the grant or thereabouts.
Anyone get better costs in the Dublin area? I’d prefer to use an approved One Stop Shop contractor.

missed the green bin options...

I miss the green bin, and in my house, if that happens, it's serious because it's already wedged after the two weeks . Now we have to live with plastic bags and cardboard scattered through there.

We really do need to do something about these bins l. every 2 weeks, and a small bin . How can the same-size bin cater to a small couple and a family of six? and the 2 weeks thing is annoying.

Anyway, what are my options here? Is there anywhere I can go to dump recycling for free? south Dublin

Thank you to the Dublin Marathon supporters

Just wanted to say a big thank you to all the folks who turned out to cheer on the Dublin Marathon runners yesterday, you were fantastic. As a nervous first-time runner, the crowds gave me a tremendous boost, and the funny signs and the sweets definitely brightened up a very long run. It was great of you all to give up your bank holiday Sunday, and very much appreciated.

Regular M50 users—travel time question

• Upvotes

I have to be somewhere at 9am tomorrow, and the only option is the m50. The normal trip from junction 14 to 10 is about 20 mins, but I’m not sure how long to leave for rush hour.

Would I be looking to leave at around 8am to safely be there for 9, or would 40 mins be enough?

Affordable wedding dresses (600 - 1400)

• Upvotes

Does anyone have recommendations for places that sell nice wedding dresses between 600 - 1400 euros. I find most places these days are over 2000 and unfortunately that’s a bit too expensive for my budget especially with how expensive everything else is these days!

I’m getting married in December 2027 so I’ve plenty of time and am open to travelling around the country too as day trips for the right dress. (I’m based in Dublin). I’ve tried Wed2B and they’re a solid option but was hoping to scope out some other places that had a bit more unique styles.

Also, if anyone has gotten dresses for significantly cheaper in neighbouring countries can you please share that too? Eg where you got it from and roughly how much? I’m hoping for one last holiday with friends before the wedding so I could plan around it. (Eg UK/ Spain.. anywhere with cheap Ryanair flights!)

I’ve also heard sample sales are the way to go but don’t really see many in my size (UK size 10). If anyone knows good spots that do sample sales often it would be a great help too. Also don’t know much about the wedding industry, is there a time of year I should look out for sales?

Thanks a mil!

Safety

• Upvotes

I don't know why but sometimes the anxiety comes to my head when I saw a bunch of teenagers on the road. After watching lots of vids about some teens stealing bikes or making troubles, I don't feel like I'm safe being alone 😔

Any same experience?

Anyone remember the "Phantom Bus Stop" outside the old cinema in Phibsborough?

I was cleaning out my grandad’s attic over the weekend and found an old Dublin Bus timetable from 1994. It reminded me of a brilliant local myth from when I was a kid growing up near Phibsborough.

Back in the late 90s and early 2000s, right outside the old cinema building, there was a completely rogue bus stop pole. It didn't have a number plate on it, and it definitely wasn't on any official Dublin Bus route map. But because it was right there in a busy spot, people who didn't know the area would constantly line up at it.

The local shopkeepers used to call it the "Phantom Stop." Apparently, a couple of local pranksters had stolen a decommissioned bus stop pole from a yard, cemented it into a cracked bit of the footpath overnight, and just left it there.

The best part was that every now and then, a bus driver who was running completely off-schedule or doing a training route would see a crowd standing there, feel sorry for them, and actually pull over to let them on. It became this weird, unwritten rule of the area. The council finally dug it up around 2004 when they re-did the paths, but for about seven years, half of Phibsborough was getting lifts from a ghost stop.

Does anyone else remember this, or did my grandad just make the whole thing up to explain why he was always late for dinner?

I've been logging Dublinbikes availability every 15 minutes, with a free dashboard of when stations run empty

A hobby data project: every station every 15 minutes since mid-October, plus Met Éireann weather. The page shows average free bikes by hour of day and which stations are most often empty. It's only a few weeks of data so far. Which stations do you find hardest at rush hour?

My wife tested positive for Covid, and I’m immunocompromised, so I’m trying (and failing!) to find one in Dublin. Any ideas? Thanks!

Edit: air purifier acquired, thanks everyone!

Macklemore guests

So who do we think the guests will be tonight? Tones & I had been reported by RTE and supported in Colorado last week. I’m assuming the lads who left the Ed Sheeran tour too but any others?

Going to airport from city centre — book coach in advance, or trust Dublin Bus?

Planning a trip abroad soon. Flight's at 3pm, so need to be there an hour or hour and half in advance. The 16, 33, 41, 41C, 505X, are all regular Dublin bus routes that go from city centre to the airport. Can I rely on these to be on time and show up, or should I book an Aircoach and not risk it?

Musician (pianist) looking for other musicians to record original works

Hi everyone, I'm a pianist looking for violin/fiddle players (2), one cellist, a harp player, and a guitar player (acoustic) to record original compositions in the coming weeks. There are 4 pieces in total. Experienced musicians with good intuitions for harmonies required. I have a clear enough idea of what I need. I'll cover recording costs and can provide 50 quid to each player for their time. Hopefully it can all be done on a Saturday/Sunday afternoon in the studio.

If anybody is interested or knows someone who might be, please reach out! Thank you.
