Noticed some newcomers around lately (probably from the Come Back to Firefox ad) with questions about switching to Firefox (e.g.). Whether you’re coming back after a while or trying Firefox for the first time, this walkthrough is for you.
Short version: close Chrome, open Firefox, run the import. Mac passwords come along automatically. Windows and Linux need an additional step.
The basics
Nothing is removed from Chrome, so you can keep using it while you settle in.

After the import
What doesn’t come over
Full walkthrough in this support article. If something doesn’t work, feel free to drop it in the comments. There are a lot of experienced Firefox-users in this sub who can help.

It's available for download at https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/slopwall/, and it works on many of the most popular sites, like Reddit, YouTube, Instagram, Pinterest, X/Twitter, etc., letting us rate the slop we see and hide the worst offenders for everyone. I'll soon open it up to community written site adapters too! If you think this could be useful please give it a shot, I'd appreciate your feedback with any questions/comments/concerns!

"...but I wanna call it: 'Active Desktop'." (read it in Homer Simpson voice).
Yeah, it was the first thing that came to mind. It's not perfect (neither polished), but at least it's modern (and of course, can interact with the current addons).

Hi. While most people in this sub may not need to “come back” to Firefox at this point, I’m curious, what made you decide to come back to Firefox when you did? Or, if you’ve never left, what keeps you here?
For context, Firefox launched a "Come back to Firefox” campaign today, featuring several personalities you might recognize from the golden era of the internet, to remind us why it’s a great time for people to try Firefox again.
(Here’s the full video, also played during tonight's football game.)

The main point is that Firefox is still great and worth coming back to, addressing the desire for optional AI, data protections, and limitations to how many online ads people are fed as just a few reasons why. Today’s Firefox addresses all of this and more, and I know many of you have been around for the journey (thanks!).
For me: I used Firefox back in the early 2000s when it was added to our family computer. It’s where I remember first using Myspace. I came back to it when I learned more about their mission for a better internet and features that support it, and I stay (beyond my role here) for much of the same.

Last night I updated Firefox as I turned off my computer. This morning, my new tab was covered in Sponsored Shortcut ads.
I checked my settings, yet "Support Firefox" was still turned off! Re-enabling it, then turning off the Sponsored Shortcuts button, before re-disabling it fixed the issue. Still not ideal. I wonder how many people have had the same & not noticed yet?
I presume this was an unintentional bug, but it definitely made me concerned! I go out of my way to keep ads enabled on my work laptop (where I don't use shortcuts) to support Mozilla, but I want no to mean no.

So i had four windows open, normally when i open firefox it opens all four of them but i had firefox closed and just opened an incognito window and when i opened regular firefox again it only restored one of the windows. None of the others are available in the "recently closed windows" tab which is greyed out, i've tried the session restore method found here which does nothing but open the window that's already open.
I had like 4,000 tabs between those two windows and i need to get them back. Is there anything i can do?

I have a Mac computer at home and at work. I am signed in to my FF profile on both and sync is turned on for Add Ons, bookmarks, etc...
On my home computer, I have 3 extensions but on my work computer I am not seeing those extensions.
I am not sure if I have sign out and sign in again for both computers to be the same or not.

Pls help, I'm going nuts!
Yesterday, seemingly randomly, Firefox started displaying this error page when I try to navigate to *most* sites (I can get into gmail fine, for example, but this happens when I click an external link from my gmail, or try to go to bsky, etc).
I've tried downloading the newest Firefox to make sure I have the most UTD version and (per their website) turning firewall trusts off then back on, but it's still happening.
It also happens in "Troubleshoot mode" so it doesn't seem to be related to an extension, and other browsers (Safari, Chrome) work fine.
Anyone else having this issue? Any idea how to fix??
Firefox has been acting up on sites like costco and now my local jellyfin
I had codex hunt it down, and this is what it found
Firefox’s site-storage index (storage.sqlite) was in a broken state, preventing its local-storage system from initializing properly.
Jellyfin reads its saved layout from localStorage during startup. That read threw NS_ERROR_FAILURE, stopping the page at the logo. Costco was affected by the same underlying Firefox problem.
The database passed its integrity check, so we can’t say it had physical corruption or identify the original trigger. But rebuilding only that index fixed both sites while preserving the actual site data—strong evidence that the index was the problem. Clearing cache didn’t help because it’s separate from this storage system.
to fix this:
To repeat this repair manually:
1. In Firefox, open about:support.
2. Beside Profile Folder, click Open Folder.
3. Fully close Firefox using Menu → Exit. Check Task Manager to ensure no firefox.exe processes remain.
4. Back up the storage folder and storage.sqlite file somewhere outside the profile.
5. Rename storage.sqlite to storage.sqlite.old. Leave the storage folder intact.
6. Reopen Firefox. It rebuilds the index automatically.
7. Test the affected websites.
This preserves passwords, bookmarks, history, and the existing site-storage files.
passing this along as it seems to be a bug out there.

I wanted to share this in case there were users who were "suffering" as much as I was. For context, I was a Premium member for a long time, at least until I was no longer able to be grandfathered into the current system at my original price. Since then, I have been finding ways to enable some access to YouTube that should be default. Background playback is the primary concern for me. I listen to ASMR content sometimes and I don't want my phone screen on the whole time while I'm trying to sleep. Also, I don't want the battery drain, either there or when listen to music on YT. So far, the script I have been using has not had any issues that I can tell and works fine on PC and Mobile (Firefox - Android). Feel free to use it and I hope it you get as much benefit out of it as I have!

Hey everyone!
I genuinely love Firefox. It has a clean, minimalist UI, decent customization options, and one of my favorite extensions, Adaptive Tab, which connects a tab to an entire webpage. Honestly, these little things make Firefox feel special to me.
But over the last few weeks, I've been facing some annoying performance issues. Even with just 2–3 tabs open, Firefox sometimes uses around 80% of my memory. 😭
I've also noticed that YouTube doesn't always load or work as smoothly as it does in other browsers. Sometimes Firefox even crashes unexpectedly.
I really don't want to switch browsers because I love the overall experience Firefox offers, but these issues are making it difficult to use as my daily browser.
Has anyone else experienced something similar recently? Is there a setting I should change, an extension I should disable, or some other fix I should try?
I'd really appreciate your suggestions. I want to stick with Firefox if I can get these issues sorted out!
Thanks!

Anyone know why I am getting a "Secure Connection Failed" message while using ESR 115.41.1esr on Windows 7 when trying to load https://www.mathcelebrity.com/online-math-tutor.php ?
It loads fine on the regular version of Firefox on a Win11 machine.
Is it because it uses some type of new security that ESR does not support or perhaps there is a setting I can use to get it working?
Thanks.

When creating a new profile using 158.01 on Debian 13 the profile already blocks set cookies for youtube. Shouldn't the new profile be in default condition not allowing any set paramaters?
I have another profile on FF that is configuted to block "set cookies" for youtube.

So basically I have an 8 year old laptop and it runs like an old man in some situations but if I only use it for work (doing word/powerpoint stuff) is fine. I got an unpleasant surprise when doing the simulation of an online class in one of the presentations that whenever I wanted to show the word/ppt presentation window screen I couldn't because the options of Meets when running in a Firefox browser are limited. So I have to re-take the subject next year and I'll have to use freaking Chrome, though it eats ram like Eric Cartman, but anything to pass the ducking subject and get my english teaching degree.
Yes I explained them that I use Firefox because it works better with old PC's but either way they failed my presentation.
