I get it that it is an AD, but when I first saw it during fp1, I thought that in the next days we will see the actual "what if" that was all about it. Did I miss something?

Hello all
Since playstation added F125 to the PS plus monthly games, I've found myself enjoying the world of formula 1.
As a complete novice, what are some absolute must-knows you could give me. Whether it be rules of the sport, terminology, or things I can shout at the TV to make myself look more knowledgeable than I am?
Thanks.
P.s. is a paid subscription really the only way to watch live? I fancied watching last night but NowTV want an extra £30 a month to add sky sports to my subscription. I don't really fancy paying that tbh

I’m not trying to upset anyone here. I’m newish to F1 so I am not familiar with the nuances of every track. There seems to be real credibility to driver complaints about the track surface and quality but the announcers and media laid on the praise pretty thick. It’s obvious that F1 would never want to speak ill of its own product. Are there other tracks that the media hypes that are also terrible for the drivers? What tracks are as good as the hype?

Likely nothing but just something I noticed. Page title says F2 but data shows as F1. I don’t know if he was under the F2 tag before but 🤷

This is a hypothetical scenario where Antonelli simply doesn't drive at all, and Mercedes does not fill his seat.
After COTA, the standings are as follows:
With three to five races remaining, the top 4 are separated by a single race win, and Norris is within 2 races of the lead.
Edit: I messed up something in Excel, so the standings were incorrect initially. They are corrected now.

TRASH TALK 101 FOR ANYONE NEW HERE - BEACAUSE. TRASH. TALK. IS. A. GENERATIONAL. THREAD.
STEP ONE: LURK ON THE SUB VERY REGULARLY, MAKING SURE TO SORT BY “NEW”.
STEP TWO: GET INSPIRED BY WHATEVER MAD NARRATIVE OR TREND GRIPS THE SUB THAT PARTICULAR DAY / WEEK. OFF SEASON IS QUITE SLOW BUT RACE WEEKS / WEEKENDS SHOULD YIELD A LOT OF SUBJECT MATTER. THE MORE INSANE AND UNREALISTIC, THE BETTER QUALITY SUBJECT MATTER IT IS. WATCH PEOPLES' OBSESSIVE BEHAVIOUR VERY CLOSELY - IT WILL YIELD SOME FASCINATING INSIGHT.
STEP THREE: AT THIS STAGE YOU MAY BE FEELING SICK WITH THE AMOUNT OF NONSENSE YOU HAVE FORCED YOURSELF TO VIEW. FEEL FREE TO STEP OVER INTO r/f1circlejerk AND MAKE YOURSELF FEEL BETTER BY POSTING A MOCKING IMITATION OF THE NONSENSE.
HOWEVER AS YOU BUILD YOUR TOLERANCE, YOU WILL FIND YOURSELF ABLE TO WAIT FOR MONDAY, THE HOLIEST OF DAYS. PEOPLE WILL TELL YOU RACE DAY SUNDAY IS THE BEST DAY, BUT THOSE PEOPLE ARE UNENLIGHTENED SAVAGES.
STEP FOUR:
STEP FIVE: REALISE THAT TRUTH AND SENSE ONLY EXIST IN THIS THREAD AND MAKE IT YOUR WEEKLY MISSION TO POST HERE.
AND REMEMBER: FLAIR UP AND SMASH THAT CAPS LOCK! AAAAAAAAAAAAA!
GOOD LUCK AND MAY THE TRASH TALK BE EVER IN YOUR FAVOUR.
POSTING GUIDELINES MOSTLY STILL APPLY

This thread is a hub for general discussion and questions about Formula 1, that don't need threads of their own.
Are you new to Formula 1? This is the place for you. Ever wondered why it's called a lollipop man? Why the cars don't refuel during pitstops? Or when Mika will be back from his sabbatical? Ask any question you might have here, and the community will answer.
Also make sure you check out our guide for new fans, and our FAQ for new fans.
Are you a veteran fan? Longing for the days of lollipop men, refueling during pitstops, and Mika Häkkinen? This is the place to introduce new fans to your passion and knowledge of the sport.
Remember to keep it civil and welcoming! Gatekeeping within the Daily Discussion will subject users to disciplinary action.

In the sense that he has pace, but the highest position he has is P3, which only happened last year when he's been in the sport for years.

I'm a bit new to this world, to be clear, but I'd like to know why there's so much "respect" between these two drivers. I know they were in karting together, I'd like to know what they were like. I know that in karting Leclerc wasn't the biggest contender..

Saw the Kimi/Senna post so thought to make a fair comparison graphic.
There was a tiebreaker for 10th between a few drivers including Kimi (9/18 so far puts him at 50%) but I broke the tie breaker by highest pole percentage for that season.
Every driver only appears once.

Gave my review of my weekend at CotA as a semi local and with how much I spent for each aspect of the weekend.
r/formula1 • u/F1-Bot • 11h ago
Welcome to the Day after Debrief discussion thread! Now that the dust has settled at COTA, it's time to calmly discuss the events of the last race weekend. Hopefully, this will foster more detailed and thoughtful discussion than the immediate post race thread now that people have had some time to digest and analyse the results.
Low effort comments, such as memes, jokes, and complaints about broadcasters will be deleted. We also discourage superficial comments that contain no analysis or reasoning in this thread (e.g., 'Great race from X!', 'Another terrible weekend for Y!').
Thanks!

I’ve been watching F1 since the early 2000’s but I’d always dive into the history of anything I get interested in so I can understand the backstories and understand what different results may mean for different teams. I lost interest in the early 10’s as I thought it was boring for years post V10 era. They got a miracle second chance with the innovative Drive to Survive and the epic 2021 battle, and had the chance to grab it by the horns and create a following for generations to come.
The year after the epic battle they change the regulations which could have been instead a season where 3 or 4 teams could have been competing not just Mercedes or Red Bull. McLaren were showing decent signs along with Ferrari having the pace to put it on pole in the 21 season. Alpine were decent and could have made big changes, however they seem to have this repeating behaviour of changing the regs before teams have the chance to adapt and keep up. When the regs change, one team that grasps it the best becomes dominant for a couple of years and then they try to change the regs to balance it out, however it only resets the progress and the one or two teams that gets the regs right just becomes dominant. Imagine after 2021 they reintroduced V10 engines - how big and exciting could this sport be right now.
I just can’t fathom this repeated cycle of regs changes when all it promotes is the team that gets it right. F1 should be decided by the capable drivers, not by the team that has the most intelligent workers at the factory. I’m not denying it has always been a part of it, with McLaren in the late 80’s/90’s and Ferrari in the 00’s but at least back then - the teams were making sneaky innovations that tested the boundaries of the rule book. The F duct, double diffuser, R25’s wing were all genius inventions that can only be praised and we just don’t see that anymore. This season has just been the most drab and uneventful season I’ve ever watched. I haven’t watched any races since the 3rd race and I don’t see that changing anytime soon.

I was really encouraged when FOM started making more use of Picture in picture, I thought this would mean we were much less likely to miss critical elements now they could show multiple feeds at once...
Why oh why, every single race do we slavishly follow the "battle" at the front... where absolutely nothing is happening only to have the actual action of the race relegated to a tiny little screen?
They are so, so close to getting it right...
Put the actual interesting action in the big, main screen and relegate the train of cars we have been watching for 20 minutes to the small little image, if miraculously anything happens at the front we won't miss it, but the actual guaranteed action we can see in big picture.
It surely can't be that complicated?
I swear this season we have seen less and less of the battles behind the front than ever before and it seems to be getting worse.
