Question Eye Strain?

• Upvotes

Anyone else getting eye strain with the 18 Pro? My daily usage has been the same since the 15 Pro I upgraded from. The eye strain has been consistent since getting the new phone - it does go away with less use so I feel like it’s the phone somehow.

Discussion iPhone 18 Pro Max hairline scratch on camera

• Upvotes

I got my new iPhone 18 Pro Max very recently and haven’t dropped it but noticed a small hairline scratch on the camera. It hasn’t affected the quality of my pictures but I wonder if apple will replace the phone? Not sure how this happened because I’ve handled the phone very carefully. I wonder if this is a manufacturing defect?

Feels like I’m playing powerball on 5 different things at once - I just wanna get the phone and enjoy it 😂

I can’t believe how much dust gets into the hinge here. If you haven’t seen this video, I recommend checking it out, especially around the 13 minute mark. If I were Apple I would have said no WR or DR at all. This will be a warranty nightmare for them.

Makes me all the more content with my choice to get an 18 pro. The durability and weather resistance and dust resistance is a huge reason why I love the Pro. Plus everything just works and I don’t need to be relearning how to use a phone right now

Not to be dramatic but I feel weird about how good this iPhone is at a lot of things. Tldr; camera, battery, charging

The camera takes perfect photos and perfect video nearly every time. All I have to do is crop. Especially now that I changed the default video settings to 4K60fps.

The fact that I can take super clean photos AND they are optimized for every social media platform ever, it just feels so good. I'm coming from Android and this is my first iphone. (I still have 2 Android phones)

But more importantly my real issue with this phone is the battery life and charging. It lasts for so freaking long it's a 2 day phone, but then it also charges wicked fast at 60W.

Iphones aren't supposed to do that. At least historically they didn't. 60 Watts. Dawg.

My only true gripes with this phone is the lack of true customization, but the walled garden stuff mostly means the most consistent experience on earth. And that's fun.

Like as I'm typing this post, my battery has been at 5 the entire time. I'm letting it die because I want to see those 0-50 percent in 15 minutes speeds.

Help My nightmare experience with Apple and my defective iPhone 18 Pro Max

Thumbnail

I made this account just to share this because I'm honestly fed up with Apple.

I bought an iPhone 18 Pro Max for $1,400 and waited an entire month for it to arrive. Right out of the box, I noticed a display defect. It's subtle, so most people probably won't notice it, and I suspect more people have this issue without realizing it.

I discovered it by enabling Display Pulse Smoothing (PWM) under Settings > Accessibility > Display & Text Size. This disables conventional PWM dimming. At first, I thought the inconsistencies were just a side effect of turning PWM off, but even after turning it back off, I could still notice them if I looked carefully.

I tried the same thing on several iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max devices owned by friends and coworkers. Some had the issue, some didn't. On some, it appeared on one side; on others, both. I've attached photos of my own device.

I was confident Apple would replace a phone that was less than a week old. I went to the Apple Store, where an employee told me I could get a replacement but had to wait two hours for an appointment. I was fine with that. After waiting and returning, they offered me a screen repair instead. I refused. I'm not accepting a repair on a phone I bought brand new less than a week ago.

Then came the calls to Apple Support. One representative told me I'd have to pay for the repair, while another said my only option was to return the phone. Meanwhile, I'd found a couple of posts from people with the same issue who said they got replacements.

On another call, I asked if buying AppleCare+ on the spot would guarantee a replacement. The representative said yes, so I paid for it. Then they couldn't provide the replacement and told me to call back a few hours later.

The next day, I called again. This time, they offered a replacement for $99.

At this point, I'd had enough. I paid $1,400, waited a month, spent hours on calls, and even bought AppleCare+ based on what their representative told me, only to be offered a replacement with an additional fee. I told them to refund my AppleCare+ payment and that I'd return the phone.

The last support representative even wanted me to share my screen so they could see the issue. I'm not sure what they expected to establish that way, given that I was reporting a physical display inconsistency, but that's how far this whole process went.

I have recordings of every single support conversation.

The representative also mentioned that they were receiving an overwhelming number of calls about the same issue. I obviously can't confirm how widespread it is, but that's interesting considering what I found when testing other devices.

Out of curiosity, I also checked the panel information on my phone, and it showed a Samsung G9N panel. I don't know whether that's relevant to the defect, but I thought I'd mention it.

The software has also been buggy, and honestly, it feels like some of Apple's new products aren't production-ready. Manufacturing defects happen, but the way Apple handled this was completely unacceptable for a brand that charges this much.

I was trying to avoid returning the phone because I didn't want to transfer all my data and set everything up again. After wasting hours trying to resolve this, I'm done. I guess I'll stick with my iPhone 15 Pro.

If you have an iPhone 18 Pro or Pro Max, try enabling Display Pulse Smoothing (PWM) under Settings > Accessibility > Display & Text Size. After turning it on, lower your screen brightness and go into a dark environment. Look carefully around the Dynamic Island and the surrounding areas, where the inconsistencies may become easier to notice. Then turn Display Pulse Smoothing off and check again to see if you can still spot them. I'd be curious to know whether others are seeing the same thing.

I never expected this kind of experience from Apple.

Question Planning to buy 18PM

I'm planning to buy an Iphone 18 Pro Max (shifting to Iphone for the first time).

I heard it's safe to buy 3-4 months after the official release date to be safe as Apple fixes bugs and other issues silently as news ones get produced, how legit is it?

Another concern is color, which color would be best? Personally I'm ranking black and silver as top (although all the colors are great this year). Personally I'm preferring black but a bit worried about it being a fingerprint magnet and due to the aluminum build, dents will be easily visible

Can anyone give some suggestions regarding these. Thanks in advance.

Discussion All roads lead to the iPhone 18 Pro Burgundy

When the iPhone 18 Pro came out, I was really tempted to switch back to iOS because I completely fell in love with the Burgundy color. My previous iPhone was a 14 Pro, and I’ve been using a Galaxy S25 Ultra for the past two years. Honestly, I have zero complaints about Android—I actually really enjoyed the experience—but I kept missing iOS.

Then, somehow, the internet convinced me that I didn't actually need the Pro features. And even though I was coming from an Ultra, I somehow fell for it, lol. So I ordered the base iPhone 17 in green (since green is my favorite color).

I used it for a week, but the zoom was terrible. That was the reality check I needed to realize that the Pro features do actually matter to me. I’m definitely not a professional photographer or anything, but I love taking good pictures and I rely heavily on the zoom. So... I returned it.

Now I’m finally about to get the 18 Pro, like I should have done in the first place. Just wanted to share that I'll be joining team burgundy very soon! 🍷 lol

Discussion Face ID issue PSA

This won't be useful to everyone because I got my 18P from Apple but like many others my iPhone has been requiring the password for no reason many times throughout the day everyday and is not as reliable as previous Face ID versions when it does work. I contacted Apple support and the second person I connected with started a return for me. I got the phone on launch and it was out of the return window. Ik some people think it's a software bug but IMO if it was Apple would have fixed it by now.

Edit: I know most 18s are fine and I know screen protectors can mess with the new IR projector this is not that. The phone will require the passcode at random times throughout the day (it's not from failed attempts) and doesn't work as well as previous Face ID iterations under certain conditions. I've tried rescanning and resetting the phone and the issue is still there. If your phone is fine this post wasn't meant for you.
