Here a GamePlay to show off the graphic capabilities at 3.5K native resolution at Extreme settings , please don't try to enable Ray Tracing it will crash immediately, after testing on a RTX 5080 PC the RT is not worth it , visually look almost exactly the same and cost half the frame rate some graphic bug can still occur

https://github.com/alexandreunitypro/MetalHorizon-FH6-Mac-Launcher

MetalHorizon: a free launcher to play your own Xbox copy of Forza Horizon 6 on Apple Silicon Macs (no CrossOver) Completely free A Steam version support could be released soon.

Main Focus: The top priority is fixing the stuttering issue due to DRM.

All you need to do is download the launcher and use your Microsoft account press download then the patch will all load automatically almost download and play.

Other than that, the game runs very smoothly with about 95% of features working as expected.

- If the game crashes, please let me know.

- Feel free to request new features or report bugs, and I'll take care of them!

Feel free to support my work on app notarization and help accelerate development.

Self promotion Mach9: A DirectX 9 focused Wine engine

In August I posted mtld3d here, a Direct3D 9 implementation on Metal for Wine.

D3D9 on Metal was the gap I wanted to fill. It turned out a D3D9 driver alone does not get games running: they also needed changes in Wine itself, in FEX (the x86 emulator used here instead of Rosetta), and in other parts of the graphics stack. Mach9 is the result: a Wine build for Apple Silicon with all of those changes, made to be embedded in launchers.

Not another launcher

The plan is for existing launchers to ship this engine, not to compete with them. A launcher copies the wine/ folder into its app and passes per-game settings in one environment variable. The rules are written with a small Rust crate, documented at https://docs.mach9.app. If you maintain a launcher and want to try it, open an issue and I will help.

Until that happens, the engine on its own is hard to try. So there is a small app, Mach9.app, to get more people testing. It starts any Windows .exe you point it at: a game, an installer, or a store client such as the Windows version of Steam if you install one. It is free and notarized (no Gatekeeper workaround), and it never asks for any account; logins happen in the store clients themselves.

AI use

A large part of the code was written with AI coding tools. I decide the design, review the changes and test the games. All of it is public, including every patch to Wine and FEX as plain commits in the forks, so you can check what was changed and why. If that is a dealbreaker for you, that is fair.

What is in it

Credit goes to Wine and CodeWeavers, FEX, DXMT, vkd3d-proton and Mesa (KosmicKrisp). This builds on their work.

Games that run

Since the first post many more games have been tested, including ones that have trouble on other engines:

  • GTA IV
  • LEGO Indiana Jones: The Original Adventures
  • Team Fortress 2
  • Half-Life 2
  • Left 4 Dead 2
  • Halo 2 (Vista)
  • World of Warcraft 1.12 / 3.3.5a
  • Medieval II: Total War
  • Mirror's Edge
  • Need for Speed Carbon
  • Pro Evolution Soccer 2017
  • League of Legends 4.17
  • Modern Warfare 2 (IW4X)
  • Thief Gold (TFix)
  • NosTale
  • Age of Empires II HD
  • Windows Steam client, Rockstar Games Launcher

Install

Needs a Mac with Apple Silicon and macOS 26.4 or later.

  1. Download https://updates.mach9.app/Mach9.dmg and drag Mach9 to Applications.
  1. Open it from Applications. macOS shows "Background Items Added": that is the Dock menu being set up.

  2. Right-click the Dock icon, Options, Keep in Dock.

  3. Right-click the Dock icon, New Executable…, pick a game's .exe, Run.

Installers work the same way: run the installer .exe with "Save as new game" off, install into a normal Mac folder such as ~/Games (Z:\Users\<you>\Games\... in the installer), then add the installed game's .exe. Steam is optional; if you want it, install the Windows Steam client this way and add steam.exe.

Full guide: https://github.com/athei/mach9/blob/main/docs/app.md

Reporting problems

Open an issue at https://github.com/athei/mach9/issues with gamelauncher.log attached (Dock menu, Open Config Folder). Reports about games that do not run are the most useful thing right now.

Apple Silicon Playing Helldivers 2 on my Mac M5

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

• Upvotes

I'm using Obelisk to do that, an open-source app I've made: https://github.com/Zagrios/Obelisk

EAC is not bypassed: Helldivers2 Easy Anti-Cheat for Linux (the Steam Deck / Proton support), and Obelisk runs the game through a small Linux layer for macOS that I also made: https://github.com/Zagrios/voile-lkd

Ranked Rocket League, Dead by Daylight and many other games work too, and I'm now working on The Finals.

With my settings I get around 40 to 60 FPS using D3DMetal, and I'm working on getting better performance (Using DirectX 11 with DXMT already gives me much better performance, but there are still some rendering bugs, so I'm still working on it)

Native Need for Speed Most Wanted 2005

• Upvotes

4.0 is here, and it’s a fresh start.

The 3.x port was my first try. It worked, but it grew into something I couldn’t keep straight, and you felt it: long Setup runs, build failures on some Macs, and bugs that took several releases to chase down. So I went back and rebuilt it from the ground up. 4.0 has a new recompiler and a new runtime, and it’s built so I can keep improving it.

Download: 4.0 Setup on GitHub · Source: github.com/elforeign/nfs-most-wanted-mac · Help & chat: Discord

What’s better

  • A much faster, simpler Setup. Building the game takes about a minute and a half, not hours. With your Xbox 360 copy added, the whole Setup takes about four and a half minutes. There’s no decompiler, no Java and no shader preparation, and you only need Apple’s free Command Line Tools. Setup brings its own Python, so Homebrew and network hiccups can’t break it.
  • Built straight from your own game. Choose your PC v1.3 game folder, or the Black Edition .zip you downloaded, and click Build. As before, no game files are shipped.
  • Xbox 360 extras, from your own Xbox 360 copy. Point Setup at your folder or .iso, and it adds the Xbox 360 world, audio, music, cutscenes, textures and more. Without it, you get the PC game.
  • A new F10 settings menu over the game (touchpad click on a DualSense or DualShock 4).
  • Controllers: DualSense and DualShock 4 detected automatically, PlayStation or Xbox layouts, button prompts that match your controller, and rumble.
  • Sound: the game’s full 5.1 mix, with optional Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital Plus and TrueHD output.
  • Still here: Discord status (off by default) and Check for updates.

What to expect

  • 4.0 isn’t an update of 3.x: download the 4.0 Setup and build once. Your 3.x app can stay until you’re happy.
  • When Setup finds a 3.x career, it copies it into 4.0 and leaves the 3.x copy untouched.
  • The game uses your Mac’s language when your game files include it (or pick one in F10 > Gameplay > Language).
  • Setup takes your installed game folder or the community Black Edition .zip. Other PC disc images aren’t supported yet.

Thank you. To everyone who reported issues, sent pull requests, tested builds and waited while I worked out this new direction: thank you for your patience. Your reports shaped 4.0. The crash, build and controller problems you found are now checks the new version has to pass. Special thanks to prex-xo, Simonxdd and DarthMDev, and to everyone on the Discord.

Coming next (in development, no dates)

  • Online and LAN races. Most Wanted’s own multiplayer code is still inside the game, and I’m working on bringing it back natively on the Mac so you can race friends with your own cars. It’s early: I’ll share it when it works.
  • Couch split-screen (planned). Two players, two controllers, one Mac.
  • More from the DualSense (planned). Adaptive triggers and better haptics.
  • Photo mode (planned). Pause anywhere, free camera, high-resolution stills.

Want to help test early builds or tell me what matters most to you? Come say hi on Discord, or follow along on GitHub. Questions or problems? Open an issue on GitHub or ask on Discord.

See you in Rockport. 🏁

Help MacBook Air m2 with Lenovo legion go Z1E VS Mac mini m6/m4

• Upvotes

So I have a situation here, I’ve been seeing a lot of reviews and tests for the Mac minis and they look very compelling, but I already have a legion go and a MacBook Air m2, so I wanted to hear your opinions. Should I sell the Mac and the legion go I have and buy a Mac mini with the money ? Or should I just settle for what I have ? This is concerning gaming of course, like would having the two together be better or would just getting the mini be.

Also would there be a major difference in performance and what not between the Mac mini m6 and the Mac mini m4 ? I know this might sound dumb, cuz I already know there’re major differences yeah, but in my country the difference in price between the two is about 530 USD, so is the difference worth it ?

Native I made a tool to configure Mac native switch ports.

Thumbnail
gallery
• Upvotes

It detects the switch port made using nxnative
Allows you to change -
Enable/Disable 60fps or unlocked framerate.
Resolution
LOD distance
Metalfx AI upscaling toggle
Change in game control ui to Xbox/playstation/keyboard mouse button.
Other game fixes options

I can share the link if anyone is interested in it. The goal was to make things convenient.

Used AI to make the frontend(I suck at ui)

Makes Zelda BOTW run 60fps at 2k on my base m1 mac and Mario kart 8 60fps at almost 4K!

Edit- If you are confused the camera shots are intended.
Edit2- will be sharing the repo in comments and another post in some time.

Discussion State of Play with MacOS

• Upvotes

What is the current state of gaming at MacOS? I know about the native ports and crossover, but I see a lot of random things popping up with vibe coded launchers etc. on github.

What are the reliable way if I dont want to pay a premium for crossover‘s lifetime service? (I have an idea with everything happening that it will be obsolete soon)

I normally play games like:
CounterStrike 2
Apex Legends
Forza Horizon 5
MotorTown
PUBG
Diablo 2 Resurrected
Pummel Party
And probably a bunch more.

Is there a service that can do most? Like we see with SteamOS and how they are handling the gaming part in Linux?

I am running the following Macbook Pro 16”:
M1 Max (The large chip with most GPU’s cores)
64 GB of Memory
2 TB SSD

Apple Silicon Dragon Age: Origins, free macOS (Apple Silicon) launcher

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

With the shuttering of BioWare I’ve been feeling pretty nostalgic for Dragon Age and wanted to revisit Origins, it’s one of my all time favourite games, and the RPG that got 16yo me into RPGs.

Only issue is I’m away from my home for an extended period and only have my Mac with me. Turns out DA:O isn’t natively on Apple Silicon (makes sense it’s 17yo at this point), and I really didn’t want to have to run it via Windows on a VM.

So, I’ve created a native macOS launcher for it (with a lot of help from Codex). Since it’s actually working I thought I’d share it with you all in case it lets anyone else scratch that nostalgia itch.

The launcher is free, it’s code is open source, and (for anyone that cares) it works by running the windows steam client and the game through Wine (you will need a steam license for DA:O or DA:O Ultimate Edition).

You can download it here: https://github.com/Dr-Smth/OriginsLauncher

More detail on how to set it up/how it works are also there.

I’ve tested it on my own MacBook (16” M5 Pro), it should work on all Apple Silicon running macOS26/27 (it’s display aware and will adjust the fullscreen resolution to whatever model you’re using). If you encounter any issues let me know… and if anyone wants to test it in more depth that’d be massively appreciated.

If you do try it, I’d love to hear how you find it.

Finally a massive thanks to Aberrant Ink for the artwork, and the people behind Wine, Sikarugir, and DAFix (without them this wouldn’t have been possible).

Native Emulation on Mac - Asahi Linux or KosmicKrisp

So I own a gaming pc from 2017 and a Mac mini M2. When it comes to emulation with arm64 support, I always wanna try on Mac first. Unfortunately I experienced a lot of glitch on Mac due to unsupported features of MoltenVK. But there are 2 better ways. Asahi Linux has their own vulkan driver called Honeykrisp and I suppose emulators should run great with it. Bad thing is that they are struggling on Apple M3 and later development and luck of features like Displayport and Thunderbolt. Other solution is KosmicKrisp, you can tell by name it's similar to Asahi's vulkan driver. It's a new metal translayer that support more vulkan features, but not all emulators support it yet. For so I'm waiting for function update on Asahi Linux or more emulator to support KosmicKrisp. Hopefully I'll be able to bring some powerful arm64 emulator back to Mac by next year :)

Apple Silicon Pokémon Sword Native Apple TV port

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I know this is a Mac gaming subreddit but thought I’d seen a few posts about Apple TV gaming on here and thought it might be relevant to some but here is Pokemon Sword natively being played on Apple TV 4K 3rd gen. Performance is perfect so far I’ve not experienced a stutter. It’s in console mode but for lower generations it can go in handheld mode to bring the requirements down a little but I’m a student so don’t have Apple TVs laying around to test on.

Made using NXNative tool for Mac and then making a TV app based on it’s output.

Native I recompiled LEGO Harry Potter Year 1-4 windows version to run on Mac silicon

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

A week ago I published a static recompiler that translates the Intel Mac version of LEGO The Hobbit into a native Apple Silicon version.

Reference: https://www.reddit.com/r/macgaming/comments/1x8q6vi/i_recompiled_the_32bit_mac_version_of_lego_the/

This time I managed to get the Windows version of LEGO Harry Potter running on my M1 Max.

A couple of caveats: there will be a few frame drops while shaders compile, and I can’t upload the game files because of DMCA concerns.

If you’re using the Steam version, you’ll need to use Steamless to strip the DRM. GOG and other copies should work as well (but you might need to point the script to the correct location).

Repo link: https://github.com/itsdunintime104/WizardBrick-Recomp

I also maintain another repo, https://github.com/itsdunintime104/MacRecomp, which brings together other LEGO games. It currently includes The Hobbit and Marvel.

Next up is Harry Potter Years 5–7, and I’ll keep rolling out more as when find the time.
