Video I just walked from Frankston to the CBD
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
I meant to do this walk at the start of the month but the storms help in Melbourne meant my flight from Sydney ended up being cancelled and moved to the next day
This time the weather looked very favourable except for the wind which was blowing in my face for the majority of the walk. Other than the wind a lot of the first half of the walk was a lovely coastal walk
I really like everything past Mordialloc. prior to this walk I hadn't explored much of the Kingston area and the wind wasn't too bad after I left Southland

THDG Need Help Tried Pilates reluctantly, loved it immediately. How are you all affording it regularly??
I tried my first (free!) Pilates class yesterday and now regret spending years assuming it wasn’t for me.
I’d always thought it looked a bit too easy and too feminine for my taste, and the whole “Pilates princess” culture put me off. I know, quite a strong opinion for someone who’d never actually been 😂
I’m currently on a free 2-week ClassPass trial (happy to refer), so I’m using it to try things I’d usually talk myself out of. I’ve also booked a free strength and resistance training class. My main goal is to lose a couple of kilos and feel fitter, but I’d really like to find exercise I enjoy enough to keep doing.
The problem is that I’ve now looked at Pilates studio prices, and I can see how this could become an expensive habit.
For anyone in inner Melbourne who went from sceptical beginner to doing Pilates regularly:
- Which studios offer good teaching at reasonable prices?
- Is ClassPass, a class pack or a studio membership better value in practice?
- Do studios usually have worthwhile Black Friday offers? Wondering whether to wait before committing.
Would especially love to hear from anyone who’s worked out an affordable routine beyond hopping between introductory offers. How did you make it work?

The Sky is Falling (literally) Anyone see these falling from the sky last night??
I just have this one photo cos I was on the phone at the time.. this was the last one. There were three of these super bright objects that all came down within a few minutes of each other, looking from South Melbourne towards Albert Park.

Hi guys! Has anyone found that the pollen has been much, much worse this year? I feel like I've been sneezing since the end of September, and it just hasn't settled down. Yesterday (Friday 0ctober 24th) was one of the worst- A perpetual sore throat and lots of sneezing.
It's been going on so long now I'm wondering if it's just me haha!

THDG Need Help Thinking of going back to school and need some advice
A bit of backstory; I’m 44 and moved to Melbourne last year from the states. I was laid off from my software developer job in September and I’ve been giving some serious thought to going back to school for psychology. The major sticking point is how I’m going to fund this. I know all about how higher education funding works in the US and the kind of grants and loans I can get but I have no clue how the system works here other than the Centrelink payment (which is less than I get for Job Seeker). Am I crazy for considering this? How does the funding work here? Are there any special programs for older students or people studying psychology? In the states for my bachelor degree I was able to take out enough in loans to support myself but I’m not sure how anything works here. Any advice or help would be much appreciated.
Edit: to clarify, I am a a citizen

So im thinking of just driving up on the day. Just curious is it better to tap card, get a paper ticket? Is there a reason why you cant book beyond 12am and exit?
Thanks

Om nom nom Ollies Pizza from Stay Gold is back with music room
reddit.comI posted about Stay Gold replacing BEAST a while back and I was partly right. There is a sign up outside - the pizza place is going to open there.
Plus they are saying it’s going to be a band room upstairs.
It makes me happy.

Ye Olde Melbourne Mini tanks shooting tennis balls at Moomba?
Does anybody remember that in the early to mid 1990s there was this arena, either at Moomba or perhaps at the Royal Show where people would drive around in these little go-kart tanks and shoot tennis balls at each other? And people on the perimeter would have their own tennis ball 'cannons'?
I think the tanks sort of looked a bit like this:

I make a stupid theme for my old Halloween skeletons each year.
I made the latest with Tencent's Huyanan AI and some skill-less messing about in Tinkercad. Didn't realise my missus was going to paint them or I'd have clean up the prints! o_0

Real estate/Renting Tired of doing Summer wrong every year in my rented hovel. What are your cooling tips and recommendations to get by?
The AC in my place is not great and cools half the one room it’s in when it’s feeling generous. Hopefully this is our last year here. I’ve done years of crappy standing fans or just taking it on the chin, but I’ve never asked anyone else if they have a product or set up that gets them by when the landlord is hard to reach and circumstances are not ideal.
So what do you reckon? Was it as easy as some product from somewhere that you stand by? A complicated system of airflow management? How do you, hopefully a fellow renter of Melbourne’s more aged, budget houses, deal with the heat these days when your old AC is just not cutting it?
Edit: Thanks for the advice, everyone. Pretty much going to be trying all of it that I can manage. You’ve probably saved me a ton of money. My fault for never waiting this long to ask for help.

THDG Need Help eufy doorbell - Seeking opinions
Heya all,
Seeking opinions on the eufy products. I went to JB HiFi earlier, and for some reason no one in the place was able to provide me with information beyond the price and location of the product.
Essentially, I am upgrading from the Google Nest doorbell, which has recently declined in quality and died am I'm looking at the eufy doorbell as a replacement.
What are your thoughts on the doorbell? also, what is the homebase used for? Can the doorbells be connected to a Google Nest screen?
Apologies for the questions. These are things I was hoping to have assistance with at JB.

Real estate/Renting Moving to Melbourne in 2 weeks
Hi all, my wife and I are relocating from the QLD to Melbourne. She starts a new job in Cremorne on Nov 9, and we’re on a tight schedule to find a new place.
We're weighing two options:
Option 1: Book a furnished short stay (Airbnb or serviced apartment) for about 4 weeks from early Nov. Once we're in Melbourne, inspect in person, apply, and move in when approved.
Option 2: Pay a rental inspection service to view places for us while we're still on QLD, apply remotely, and hopefully move straight in before Nov 9.
A few questions:
Is Option 2 realistic in this market, or will agents favour applicants who've inspected in person?
Has anyone used a paid inspection service in Melbourne? Worth it, and who would you recommend?
How fast do lease approvals usually come through? Is getting approved and moving in within 2 weeks realistic, or is that reaching?
Any suburbs you'd suggest for value with a short commute to Cremorne?
Thanks heaps!
